What are the best strategies and character selections for 4 player free for all 3-stock games?

So far I have found Ike to be the best, because of his strength and heaviness. Other heavy characters are also pretty good, and gimping with DDD is pretty fun also.

What are the best ways to win at free for all stock games?

I have a good one, take Meta Knight and plank the whole match, everyone else will kill themselves and you win as FFA is all about luck and stalling and spamming.

Well obviously FFAs are kinda crap, I was just wondering what the best way to win at them was. Like which characters with which spammable moves should I use?

There are two types of free-for-alls: the kind you mentioned or the kind where everyone gets in the fray and doesn't care if he/she loses.

I prefer the latter.

There are two kinds of threads - the one that asks for strategies or the kinds that talk about having a good time. Only the former belongs in this forum, and only dubiously at best.

I'm talking brawl, not melee.
It works about as well in both games.

FFA stock honestly doesnt work as well as timed...
If it must be stock, stall the entire time...its boring as hell, but it is victory.

I usually pick MK and plank but sometimes kids QQ. My suggestion is someone heavy with good recovery. D3, Wario, even snake.

Back when I was in 1st grade with SSB 64, I remember sitting at the very edge of the stage with Samus and firing fully charged shots and dropping bombs whenever somebody got close.

Back in the day.................

Get good at the basics and then you'll do better in FFAs. Though we're a competitive forum that focuses purely on 1vs1 and Teams [with damage on], our guides and videos will make you a better player. By simply becoming better at 1vs1 you're going to be better in FFA, regardless of how many people gang up on you. If your pursuit is to become genuinely good at the game, find the character you like and go to their character section.

General tips for FFAs ->
Learn to space. Attack so that you can harm your opponent, but they can't hit you.
Don't dive into situations that are risky.
Pick an area on the map and stay around it. Don't let your opponent come into your space.
Edge Guard your opponents. If they are off the stage and you are near, without anyone threatening you, prevent them from making it back.
Shielding is incredibly important. Perfect shielding even more so.
You're invulnerable for a dumb amount of time by just spamming Spot Dodge.
Learn to DI. We have tons of articles on it. You can live for SOOOOO much longer when you know how to do it.
Avoid spamming your kill moves. Brawl depreciates your attacks in power and knockback the more they are used.
'Snipe' people that are above 120%. Don't let people live to high percents.

This. Still works, plus she has more projectiles now.

Best way to win free for alls:

1. Be in a free for all with Ike. Pick Pit.
2. Camp like a mother, wary not to piss off any other players
3. ?????
4. Pick off the stragglers.

GAME.

One very effective way is to take Snake. His stage control will kick everyones *** while they fight each other.

I remember doing this at Anime Expo in LA this year.
The setups were free for alls with items off on FD.

All I did was plank with Diddy and waited for everyone to kill each other. I stayed in for ages.
Match would usually come down to me and one other player on high percents, 3 stocks left, while the others would die, then the match would really begin. lol.

Princess Aura was there that day too. Though I didn't talk to her, lol.

As Lucario:

Stay by the side of the stage and shoot charged aura balls. Whenever someone comes close, combo them in the air. That'll get the win, if you're into a cheap win...

As Sonic:

Do I even have to go through this? Just roll across the stage. It's the most annoying thing they'll ever want. Don't expect many kills though...

As Z-Suit:

Don't know yet... I just D-smash to side-B...

I used to do that but I find using b+^ over and over more effective.
