I have the phrase stuck in my head, seeing it so many times on the opening load screen.

What control scheme have you all been using since release? Have you been using the GCN controller for Melee similarity, or instantly jumped into the Wii remote / Nunchuck combo? Or even the Classic controller or remote sideways?

How do you play?

Tried the nunchuck, was okay at it. Tried the Wiimote, faaaaail. Don't have the Classic, so I'm sticking with the GC scheme.

I actually haven't tried the GCN controller...almost feels like a step back. My friend tried the GCN and said he was more comfortable with it.

We all tried the Wiimote on it's side and it was a general feeling of awkwardness - nobody really felt it was comfortable or precise enough.

I haven't tried the Classic yet, not because I don't think it's good, but rather because I want to get good with one control scheme. My boyfriend loves the classic controller setup - says it's comfortable - but he has a hard time understanding me when I say things like "up B" or "hold up slightly and tap A for a tilt" because he mapped his buttons all WTF-like.

I, personally, prefer the Wiimote + Nunchuk combo. It's comfortable because I can put my hands where-ever I want them and it's responsive. I turned off the shake-smash because it just ended up activating by accident at the most inappropriate times.

Overall, I think controller preference is just as varied as character preference...which I think it kind of cool. :)

I use Wiimote + Nunchuk with Smash attacks mapped to the D-pad. I find it fantastic and much better than the Gamecube controller.

I've been sticking to the classic, as unlike my GCN controllers, the analog sticks don't have 45 degrees of looseness after years and years of smashes.

I just use the Wii Remote with the Nunchuck,. I thought it would be really different at first but I just needed to get use to it and its really easy.

Personally, I've been playing my Wavebird. Every once in a while I'll turn on the Wii Remote/Nunchuck for practice, since I do want to master that and let go of the GCN controller habits.

The first time I played with the Remote/Nunchuck at the Midnight launch event I sucked, but I do see myself getting better and progressing.

Have any of you checked this controller out?

It's actually pretty cool. It has a wireless rumble feature that the Wavebird lacks. Also, the buttons are laid out just like the Classic except with a frame similar to the 360 controller (smaller). The shoulder buttons are also not lined up as they are in the Classic, which is a good thing.

If you had an opportunity to use this controller, what are your thoughts?

I used the classic controller, but the thumbsticks (especially the left one) was too low (as I'm used to a 360 controller) so I would go left or right and accidentally jump... I got over it, but I tried a nunchuck + wiimote at a gamestop and it felt much better, so I'm going to use that most of the time.

Having played Melee for years, I'm going with the GC controller at the moment. The analog sticks on the classic controller are too close to each, plus the left one isn't in the same position as a GC or Xbox/360 controller. Wiimote sideways is something I feel like I would never get used to or have the same degree as control as the other three options. Double tap to dash, shield button in a hard to reach place (at least for me), and using two buttons to smash are things I rather not deal with. As for Wiimote + Nunchuk, I could see myself liking that, with the D-Pad mapped to smash attacks, but at the moment, I'm sticking with the GC controller.

Other then the left analog stick placement, that looks like it might be a nice controller. Not really too sure at the moment, I'll have to look at other options. Seems like 3rd party Wii controllers are finally starting to show up, but I hope they still don't suffer the "3rd party hardware" curse that usually leads it to breaking down easily then official controllers.

I agree. That's my only complaint about the controller as well. It may take some getting used to, but I don't know if I'd want to take the time out to relearn the L-Stick placement. The reasoning is because it's really a Classic Controller replacement for VC games. I'd rather just learn the Wii Remote & Nunchuck.

On a side note, how do you feel about tap jumping the Control Stick? Do you turn it off so that Utilt is easier, or do feel that it's an advantage to the play style?

I got accustomed to using X rather then up for jumping after the Dojo update with the control schemes, so it was a big help that I could turn Tap Jump off.

Actually I plan on buying that controller this weekend. I saw it in another post on here somewhere (dont know if it was yours), but I looked it up and it costs $17 at my local store.

The Classic Controller sucks hard balls. It' shape is so hard to grasp in your hands. I have to have my thumbs at a downwards diagonal tilt to use it. Not to forget, it is really small. I'd never use a third party controller becuase they have too much lag.

Yeah, in Melee I always used X or Y to jump and hated that I would accidentally jump with the Control Stick sometimes. But in Brawl it feels more natural to jump using the Stick. IDK, it's weird.

i started out with the nunchuck but it felt pretty awquard so i unhooked the nunchuck and played with the wii mote alone and i have to say i like it more than gamecube it feels natural for me and rolling is a lot easier with the b button right under your palm

I have tried the Wiimote - Nunchuck Combo and absolutely hated it. I haven't bothered with the Wiimote sideways because I'm sure I'll hate that too. I decided to give the Classic Controller a chance and I'm loving it. I love it so much that when I went to try the GC Controller again I hated it.

Abusing the meanings of love / hate a little too extensively? Lol.

Interesting. I think you're the only person I've seen that's said that they prefer the Remote alone. Is it hard to grab or dash? Those were the two biggest complaints I've seen about that scheme.

I'm using the Gamecube controller most of the time and slowly working towards using a Wiimote+Nunchuk, and the Wiimote alone.

They're really...just odd to work with.

Im usin th Nunchuk+Remote, because my GC controller lags a bit and the analog stick is loose as anything. I was not comfortable at first, but it got to be where i could outperform myself on the GC controller. so im using the Nunchuk. My only problem is the Z button is slightly hard to reach, i like putting my finger on jump (c) continuously. Shielding is slightly difficult, and airdodging is next to impossible. I m using default controls, i might try changing them a bit.

Does anybody else feel like the GCN Controller is a little laggy too? I feel like it is sometimes, especially when playing Wi-Fi.
