It is probably best to play a mixture of all of them except "taunter"?

Being able to switch between aggression and defense can throw off many players. It helps setup opponents to make mistakes when you don't do what they expected.

There is nothing wrong with spamming at all, if someone is dumb enough to run into your foward smash 20 times in a row they suck. It saves you the trouble of having to think.

Adaptive is common sense, how can you be Offensive or Defensive if you don't understand the range and lag of attacks. If you don't understand that one of your aerials has huge landing lag you will get punished going on the offensive with it. Same as knowing the starting animation of certain attacks if you spot dodge to early you will get hit regardless.
Being truly adaptive includes all of those things. An adaptive player obviously has to understand how to be offensive and defensive; you can't adapt if you don't have options of what to do. Spamming moves may well work against scrubs, but it's not something that you really need to learn how to do. I highly doubt you will ever find someone you can ONLY beat by repeatedly fsmashing.

Fighting was the only thing, the ONLY thing I was ever good at. But at least I always fought for what I believed in...

Depends on the character I'm using.

With Samus, I like to be fairly adaptive/offensive with her, and it's usually me that brings the fight to the enemy with dash attacks, back-airs and grabs. But I usually won't pass up the opportunity to make use of my ranged abilites through a barrage of Super Missiles if it presents itself (Spamming I guess, though it's not a move I'll use forever), unless I know the person and the way they play, or just feel sporting enough to get some hand-to-hand going.

Marth's a mix. Offensive is the main way I play since closing the distance with ranged attackers is paramount, and air juggling is the chief tactic in my book. Spamming never really comes into play since I don't use any attacks over and over again. However, I also play defensively since I like to use Counter to mess around with people who enjoy running forward and having roll battles (my friend and I tend to have roll battles a fair amount too).

In the context of what could be considered pseudo-spamming, I use Link's Bombs and Arrows to put spacing between me and the enemy when I can. This isn't really to just get quick and cheap hits on anyone though - it provokes them to attack me rather than sit still or run away like chickens.

You are doing it wrong!
There are only 10 kinds of Smashers; those who understand binary and those who dont.

I have one to add to the list.

Calculators: Mind games. This kind of player will pick someone like Game and Watch, Ness, Diddy or the like just for their unpredictable movement styles. The player who will probably lose the first two matches, only to counter-pick the character and stage that will counter your entire strategy. He will then proceed to mentally violate you with crazy tactics like banana-spamming or the ol' Pk Thunder Barrier.

I don't like the way you put "Defensive" I am a defensive player. The way you worded it is like camping. Defensive means you have to perfectly time your spot dodges, aerial dodges, and rolls. Why get hurt when you can dodge? I play defensively, but by no means do I run away and attack.

I think that will fall into the adaptive kind of category. Using your character and the stage to your advantage makes it adaptive.

Hah hah hah, even before I had read this I have always known myself as an adaptive player. I agree with everything you said, however I believe that the "Adaptive" type makes up a smaller fraction than 1/5.

Wait, what took the most skill? Adaptive? Then I´m definitely that. Yep, I always adapt to anything and everything.

...

What? No, I don´t have Brawl yet. Okay, fine, I will be adaptive player after 27th.

Adaptive/taunter for me. I love to spam Sonic's "Your too slow!" on the edge until someone gets pissed off enough to attack. Then I destroy them, and continue doing it! XD

Well on Wifi that is. In a normal match I'm offensive and adaptive, depending if I'm fighting a camper or not.

I'm not sure what to classify myself.
I'm always chasing down my opponents, but I consistently spot dodge, air dodge, and shield.

I supposes that's adaptive, but it would seem conceited to call myself "the best one".

Also - I have never met a taunter.

Everyone is adaptive apparently, mhmm.

I am my own class: ****ter. ****ters often defecate on their own allies and seem to urinate and then trip in it. Thus, urine clouds the screen. They often are 3-stocked and happen to hang themselves in real life. They often cut their own wrists and giggle as they step on bugs. ****ters threaten suicide when banned from a forum or when they're boyfriend or girlfriend dumps them. On a final note: they apparently think they are non-comfortist and wear 'neat' or 'spiff' clothes that make them different. Look at the tag, it says Hot Topic.

How I play depends on what character I am.
If I play a character that can camp, I tend to play defensive.
On the otherhand, if I got a character with good range, I play offensively.
I am only a taunter if I am extremely bored and just want to goof around.

Why do taunters exist really? I mean, what do they wanna get from taunting?

Im adaptive normally, but if Im playing with spammers, I PKT2 spam.
