I know this probably won't work for everyone, but the groups that say "East coast brawlers" or "South east Floridians," in my opinion, are a good idea. I got a bunch of friend codes from people in the New York area, and a few friends, and brawling has never been more lag free. I stay away from basic brawl entirely and devote all my online time to my friends list. Also, what helps if you move your router (even a little bit) to a more central location in the house. For me, all I did was move it from under and alcove in my desk and moved my wii into the middle of the room I was in. Hope this helps!

where your router is doesnt matter, either your connected, or your not
Thats really false. Especially if surrounded by metal, like mine was, moving it can help a lot. This are just things that helped me, so don't take it as the gospel.

That helps too. I' know you can get a Nintendo Wii Lan adapter on Amazon for about 20, and a generic one other places for less.
