As you guys know, the Wii draws in all kinds of people, and this includes Brawl. My immediate family (all of them!) have decided to start playing, and oh god...they're terrible. What do you guys think is a good way to at least get them down with the basic controls, and into things like shielding/rolling/edgeguarding and the rest of the basics quicklyish? They're not the brightest, though I guess not BAD.

Don't think competitive here, this is purely casual for the lulz gaming. Time free-for-alls, items, silly stages, the works. Just help me get 'em past button mashing.

Have them watch the How to Play video, put them in training mode, and then some 1vs1 matches.

Let them button mash, some people find it fun.

Or just show them the how to play video. And 1 vs 1's are better to learn in than FFA's. No items too maybe? Until they get controls down at least.

My friends and relatives that play get ticked when they face me because I usually win. I'd say let them learn on their own. Let them learn their own playing style but kind of nudge them along the way with maybe a helpful tip every so often or something like that.

Have you tried letting them watch the tutorial?
