why isnt it just Rosalina?
IMO, Luma is just like some infinitely replaceable sidekick...

this bugged me on brawl aswel with olimar's name (i think it was pikmin & olimar), when it should have just been Cpt. Olimar... pikmin are even less of a sidekick than Luma

Interestingly, in Brawl, Olimar was just referred to as "Olimar". Who's to say that that'll happen again?

It doesn't really bother me, it wouldn't bother me if the announcer stated both characters in the name to be honest. It is just a name.

i mean, the Lumas are an important part to the SMG storyline and a major part of Rosalina's life. and Luma is literally part of the fight now with Rosalina. it's not like Peach where she only has Toad for one move.

I am absolutely bugged and annoyed by the fact that Olimar gets called just Olimar on the character selection screen, yet Rosalina has to have the "& Luma". I mean, why? She doesn't even have to have Luma next to her all the time.

Are you completely and utterly certain about that? I recall him being referred to as "Pikmin and Olimar" at the invitational, I believe that is what the card stated. Albeit, I suppose the select screen could be entirely different.

I really don't mind either way, I just say Rosalina. It may not roll off the tongue well, but I love how the announcer says "ROSALINA & LUMA..." in such a sinister and foreboding manner, much like how he would announce Bowser and Ganondorf. I found it really funny. Rosalina & Luma confirmed for merciless god tier!

I can probably see why Rosalina is referred to as Rosalina & Luma when you realize that a new Luma will spawn automatically after about 8 seconds. Olimar's Pikmin don't spawn automatically at all.

The Luma is a big part of what makes Rosalina and Luma unique, the Luma is basically a separate character that you control at the same time as you control Rosalina.
It should at least get recognition in the form of three or less seconds of audio recognition that it exists.

See when the opponent KOs a Luma, it doesn't count as a kill. Rosalina can just summon up another Luma to help her. The player has to KO Rosalina for it to count, that's why I feel like calling the fighter just "Rosalina" would be appropriate.

Mainly because I care a hell of a lot more for Pikmin than I do Lumas.

Rosalina & Luma are both fighters like Ice Climbers Popo and Nana. In the Ice Climber duo Nana is mostly another you that can be controlled and destroyed without effecting your stocks. In the RosaLuma duo Luma can fight by herself and be controlled then be destroyed without effect, then summoned again to continue her fight only about 2 seconds after dying. Olimar's play is different than the "Duo" play of Ice Climbers and RosaLuma. Perhaps because the Pikmin seem more independent/less controllable, disposable, and item-like in nature they've opted to keep only Olimar as the focused character.

Pikmin are very important in Olimar's game, but I understand why they would go without. Despite that, I agree that Pikmin and Olimar sounds much more cool and I'd much prefer it over "Olimar". Pikmin also resonates with people who've played Pikmin more than Olimar, especially for those who enjoy Pikmin and don't care to much about little story-bits.

True, or maybe just the popularity statistics. People tend to get really tense when they don't see Luma because she "adopted them". While some just prefer Olimar alone.

I think "Rosalina & Luma" is a bit of a mouthful too, but as far as the Olimar debate goes, I'd say Olimar has command over the Pikmin. They do what he tells them to do and follow him everywhere. He can send them to their doom. Luma, while it (he or she?) does stick by Rosalina's side, bounces around, spins, wanders a few inches away and supports Rosalina rather than obeys her like the Pikmin do Olimar. So, though they are both expendable, I think Luma is much more independent and the name Rosalina & Luma makes sense.

Side-note: Olimar should be Captain Olimar. He deserves the same respect as Captain Falcon.

If Olimar can fight without his Pikmin, I'm pretty sure that Rosalina can do the same without the Luma. But because the Luma returns by itself, you don't really have much time to try to use Rosalina alone.

I think it's more justified with the Luma than the Pikmin because Luma actually has a move set so with Rosalina you're literally controlling two different move sets at once.

But if it still bothers you, well all I can say is either get used to it or just call her Rosalina like myself and others are doing and move on with your life cause chances are this isn't getting changed.
