The first day I got brawl, I played it till it a hell of a lot, and when I got to about the tenth match, Me and my brother both decided to turn Final Smashes off permanently, we thought It just took fun away from the game, simple as that. Am I the only one who thinks of Final Smash as a really stupid addition?

Meh, final smashes can be fun time to time. I personally enjoy playing with them when I'm Zelda and there's a Sonic and two others (probably Wolf and Falco), and they're all "MINE!" as I'm on the far side, and I simply Din's Fire, take, use, triple KO ^^

I had a feeling a lot of people would say they turned them off. It's weird how It was maybe one of the most hyped features of Brawl and everyone has just abandoned it. I was surprised at how quickly I dismissed it. xD

I like FSs, I just think they appear too commonly by default for something supposed to be so powerful. Same with the Dragoon items.

I keep them off. After the first few matches with playing with them on i realized that they suck. I only use them when playing in free for all's, but usually all items are on high when i do those >.>

I only use them when it's FFA, since it's for fun. But when we get competitive, Smash Balls are always off.

I use items at times and turn them off sometimes too. It all depends on my mood and what I what I want to accomplish during that brawl session.

I only use FS when I'm playing for fun. But when I'm training or playing competitively then I turn them off.

Items = fun. I play to have fun. Smash Balls are items. Smash Balls are fun.
QFT.

Although I do keep items on Low and I do turn off some of the really unbalancing ones. I leave Smash Balls on but turn off things like the Dragoon, Golden Hammer, Heart Container, etc.

I enjoy using Smash Balls, but my roommates don't so I usually have them turned off.

People act like Smash Balls are broken, but that's not true. If a Final Smash is a one-hit kill, then it's usually avoidable. The ones that are least avoidable are the ones that're not that powerful, but merely rack up damage or use some other side effect. Then there's Kirby's which falls in the middle; it can either just damage you, or kill you depending on percentage, but it's avoidable if you can get out of its range.

At first all Final Smashes seem completely broken and cheap, but there's more strategy on both the userss and the runners' sides than you'd at first expect. Now the Dragoon, THERE's an item that's completely broken.

It’s good to see so many item users here. When I first lurked around here it seem like everyone was an item hater. It’s cool that there is many people who can appreciate playing smash in many different ways.

Just wanted to say that Kirby's FS is easy to side step as well. It's pretty simple timing. Lol always do Diddy's down taunt in front of the pot :p

As for the dragoon, I really turn it off because it disables the FS until all the pieces are collected. But I'm sure that could probably be avoid able. But then the frame window of pressing it and the action must be incredibly small.

Turning off Final Smash balls seems unfair toward certain characters. Having them off is an advantage to guys like Meta-Knight and Link and a disadvantage to guys like Ike and Fox.

I pretty much just leave it on default settings because I feel this is the best balance for all characters.

Depending if FS' are on impact who you use, though unfair isn't the way that I would go. Each character has strengths and weaknesses, I would actually consider having FS on seem unfair.
FS' impact the match too much, put Kirby vs. Bowser (best character match-up) with no items, and you have a ballgame. But put FS' in the equation and the outcome, without skill in the equation, favors Bowser, being that Kirby's FS is only good in mulitplayer battles and only somewhat great.

Edit: Forget what I'm saying. Just play no items, fox only, final destination .__.

On when I play casually
Off when I'm seriously training.

That pretty much sums it up. I love final smashes but they're no good for training.

Olimar is unavoidable? WTF? lol I understand CF's sorta, but everything else is pretty hard to avoid if used properly.
Well Olimar is just a matter of staying up in the air long enough to avoid the ship landing. Everything else but Ganon is simply side step-able so yes they are simple to avoid.

The first matches I played, I had all items of except for Smash Ball. I decided to have it on just to see how it was, if it added something to the game. But I very soon realised the unbalance that came with Smash Balls, and turned them permanently off after about five matches.

I wouldn't turn smash balls off if I wasn't so bad at playing Samus, I hate Zamus' FS, maybe if I can get Samus to transform to ZSS mid-match successfully I'd turn them on again. What surprised me however was how often they appeared o_O I mean Sakurai gave the impression that you were only bound to see one like once in a life time, and I got one quite early on in the game and got them quite often.

FS's had the chance to be a genius addition to the game. Unfortunately, while Sakurai was having his good time giving characters their high powered super attacks, he forgot to give them any kind of balance. For instance, DK's final smash, which only becomes a useful kill move at the very end after getting every beat right, in comparison with Sonic's which can kill early, then deal about 50% damage even after his opponent has sat on the respawn platform for the whole duration, after their invincibility has worn off, and then some.

Smash balls are fun when I'm drunk and don't really care about whats happening and simply want to be entertained, other than that I keep em off.

I like the Final Smashes, but even with items on low they still appear too often for me.

Items off =(
