also, Mother Brain has no business in Brinstar. it's just strange to me that they would completely make up a new Metroid creature when they have so many meaningful existing creatures to choose from...like the Spore Spawn, for instance (i think someone mentioned that...)

The spore spawn is in upper brinstar though.

I'd guess it's just a spehrical clump of the purple moss stuff you see all over mid-lower brinstar.
