I happened to get my hands on a US retail Version of Smash Bros and tested it with my US Wii with a built in Wiikey Chip. Everything worked fine until now (except the japanese retail version of Brawl) and I was happy to finally put my amercian copy of Brawl in my Wii. Too bad my Wii couldn't read cause of the Wiikey, even though it is an US Wii and a US copy of the game.
After I tried to figure out how to make it work I found out to ways to do so.
1. Rip the Game to your computer and modify it the same way people did with the downloadable 8GB version of Brawl (what I'm not able to do, because I don't know how).
or
2. Remove your Wiikey and put in another Chip (I put a Wiinja in there) or don't put any Chip in there.
I actually modified my Wii ONLY to play Brawl a bit earlier, but in the end I couldn't play the japanese OR the US Version on my Wii (the latter would haver worked in the beginning if I wouldn't have done anything). Only downloaded files worked.
I wanted to inform all Smash Fans with a built in Wiikey that the retail version won't play because I was very disappointed when it didn't work and I had to go through a huge hassle to get it work (I actually drove to the guy who built in the Chip to let him fix me up with a new one. It was a 4 hour trip, AGAIN
). Just wanted to make sure you don't have to go through the same as me and that you could prepare!
Yours truly
a HUGE Smash Fan!
PS:
To all naysayers out there who think this is fake. Believe what you want, but I just wanted to help!
And if I ignored a board rule or something, I'm sorry!
