I happened to get my hands on a US retail Version of Smash Bros and tested it with my US Wii with a built in Wiikey Chip. Everything worked fine until now (except the japanese retail version of Brawl) and I was happy to finally put my amercian copy of Brawl in my Wii. Too bad my Wii couldn't read cause of the Wiikey, even though it is an US Wii and a US copy of the game.

After I tried to figure out how to make it work I found out to ways to do so.

1. Rip the Game to your computer and modify it the same way people did with the downloadable 8GB version of Brawl (what I'm not able to do, because I don't know how).

or

2. Remove your Wiikey and put in another Chip (I put a Wiinja in there) or don't put any Chip in there.

I actually modified my Wii ONLY to play Brawl a bit earlier, but in the end I couldn't play the japanese OR the US Version on my Wii (the latter would haver worked in the beginning if I wouldn't have done anything). Only downloaded files worked.

I wanted to inform all Smash Fans with a built in Wiikey that the retail version won't play because I was very disappointed when it didn't work and I had to go through a huge hassle to get it work (I actually drove to the guy who built in the Chip to let him fix me up with a new one. It was a 4 hour trip, AGAIN  ). Just wanted to make sure you don't have to go through the same as me and that you could prepare!

Yours truly

a HUGE Smash Fan!

PS:
To all naysayers out there who think this is fake. Believe what you want, but I just wanted to help!

And if I ignored a board rule or something, I'm sorry!

I've heard that some times around the internet too, especially to say it was only an accidental leak..

I have read about this somewhere before.

Whats even stranger is that the modchip blocks a game thats the same region as the Wii.

Can't mod chips be updated to deal with problems like this? If not then modded wiis are screwed.

hehehehehehehe....
Laughing at other peoples misfortune. The smashboards way.

We've known about this since JPN launch. Original doesn't work on Wiikey, burned copy does.

Ok, apparently lots of stores are getting Brawl early. On Friday, I'm barging into Gamestop and I'm not leaving until I have Brawl in hand, even if I have someone's small intestine in the other.

Yes, they can. No one should be worried about it really. Most likely, the Wiikey just doesn't have DL support for original games and only has DL support for backups. If it can read the backup, of course it'll be possible to read the original with an update. A DL Wii game was just unexpected is all.

Can someone (perferably the topic creator) please tell me where they picked this game up a week before the release date?? Has no one else flagged this as being something worth saying?

oh my gosh guys has anyone said "Wher did u gt it" yet did anyone say that i was wondering if anyone asked you where you got it because when i say where did you get it i want to sound totally original unlike posers who say where did you get it

Where did you get it?

but seriously, i dont think this is that big of a deal, it should be flooded over with correct fixes on the WiiKey update before the official release date for the game probably

I wouldn't try to get it in any stores, I didn't shoplift or anything (I can't shoplift something they don't have in their stock now can I ;-) ). I'm not even from America!

Let's say, I know somebody who knows somebody, I think you can imagine the rest ;-)

That was my thought exactly. But the japanese version is out since a month or so and there still aren't any updates or fixes around. Anyone who can wait won't have a problem, they'll be able to download it, but my reason to put in a chip was because I didn't want to wait any longer!

This isn't a big deal. You should be used to playing with burned copies anyhow.

I can play a copied american version just fine. Just don't use an original...

Which brings up the point: Why buy the original if you have a modchip? The point is so you don't have to spend money :D :laugh:

you guys saying that modders ruined their consoles and wont be playing brawl realize that modders will probably end up with the us version of brawl at least a few days before you do after sears broke the street date, and that this is an issue pertaining only to the "wiikey" chip and not any other modchips, right? wiikey users will also not be buying a legit copy in the first place. you cant really be THAT dumb.

This is so hard for us Aussies. Brawl hasn't even got a release date here so many of us got modded. Now look what happens... I also got modded for the sole purpose of playing brawl, and all its done is stuff everything up

Just the unwritten rule of not speaking about ripping/dumping/downloading games, like I did once. My thread got closed immediately. I'm really starting to dislike how some things are handled here -.-

Anyways, thanks for the info. But still, the game has to be in the SSB collection in my house. After that, the only one left is Brawl PAL version..;)

Your face is dumb. I bought the WiiKey to play the import in the first place. Too bad it didn't work, but that's none of your business. The crap you're bubbling about would be the same as if I said "internet users are dumb to buy software". So don't talk about stuff you don't know about and go sit in the corner.

General illegal activities don't particularly need to be in written rules. Piracy is piracy, even simply admitting to having it.

Condoning the piracy of Brawl on this board could very well land us in legal troubles at any given time.

In other words, get over yourself. Just because you can't trust your own common sense to work doesn't mean it's our job to do that for you then complain about it.

There is a solution, get your chip modded, so that you can activate your chip whenever you want, I've seen it. That's how Reed plays JPN Brawl and Original US Brawl in his Chipped Wii =)
