wow, when i first saw the title i was ready to write a reply tellin u to **** yourself, but after reading that I completely agree with you, all the people and veterns on this site think they are already sick at this game, when no one is cuz it's not even out yet, and if you got it from Japan, good for you, doesn't make you better than anyone just cuz you have it and we don't.

Hmm i thought this was gonna get closed but he does have a point. We don't know what the Settings would be for Brawl. It may be as fast as Melee or as slow as SSB. It may be between. Who knows?

No sticky because it doesn't deserve to be a sticky. It's a statement and that's about it..

I'm actually a lot more pissed off at people that say "good ****" to things that don't deserve it (no offense) than about people calling themselves pros when they're semi decent...

When I say someone's good at Brawl, I usually mean they're good at the time. When the game is actually out for a few more months, that skill level referred to as good at that time will probably be "horrible".

Eh, if we're talking in relativity...

When people say "Oh wow, you're really good!" they of course don't mean that So-and-so is going to be the next Ken. They mean good relatively speaking.

Relative to everyone else they've seen play Brawl (or to narrow things down further, relative to everyone else they've seen use 'x' character), So-and-so is really good.

I agree with Winnar. Anybody that says someone is good at brawl right now, it means that they are good compared to everyone else at that point. People said Ken was good over 5 years ago, and look, he got better, as well as everybody else, so we can say people are good at any given point in time, knowing that nobody right now is nowhere near the peak skill level yet.

Amen.

Holy shet quit feeding his ego with this dumb banter and praise.

What he said was not groundbreaking.
There are some people that you can clearly see however, that SEEM to be good at Brawl, for how new and different the game is. And also people who SEEM to suck at Brawl, for how new and different the game is. Sure, the game is so new that we don't know the whole side to playing it competitively, but there are some people who got the hang of the game pretty well and pretty quick for how new it is.

Quit feeding HuGS and gimpyfish like they're gods. They didn't say anything that wasn't absolute common sense. It's ridiculous to consider yourself a "pro" at a game that just came out, but that doesn't mean this should be stickied.

it doesn't matter if we don't know everything. there are still skill levels at this time. we judge the level of skill based on what we have right now, which is crap-all, but it's still something.

I do agree, we have hardly scraped the top of the iceberg, but if you graph our progress vs. time, then we can't be doing too badly, can we?

Wow, calm down. You're the only mad person on this thread at this moment.

I'm just trying to instill some sense into certain beginning players.
This is true hugs is not getting mad, hes just saying we should not assume that this is the way a char is played, or showing the potential of the char, we are bearly scratching the surface of the game.

I think Ive gotten good at using ROB. Ive used him nonstop since unlocking him. First I used him against level 9 CPs to get a feel for how he stacks up against others. Then I took him online. I can dominate anyone Ive played 1 vs 1 without Items. Howevr there might be some undiscovered techniques out there that may inhance his gameplay.

Lol well I agree that people calling someone amazing is a little dumb. You've never played so you've really nothing to compare it to. People could be playing at future scrub level and people are simply clamoring for gameplay will be easily impressed thats all. I don't think everyone sucks at it. I just think that nobody is amazing or great at it.

We can't know until everyone (or at least the US) has it and we start to see the Metagame for what its really worth. Things can be impressive yes but we don't know what amazing is yet.

And HugS try not to be so childish when you make a thread. Just because you're well known doesn't mean your word is flawless don't get too full of yourself...

Confounding the messenger with the message? If this was some unknown's first post, would you still agree with the message?

On the whole, i agree with HugS' message. But here's one important thought. The smash community is much larger now than when brawl came out. Exponentially more people are working like mad to discover as many general techniques and character specific strategies as possible. Further, with online play and (hopefully) well organized, fluid online tournaments, we'll all get much more experience playing against a diverse array of strategies/play-styles much quicker than with the 'go to a tournament' method of melee.

The point is, I expect that we as a community will get better at Brawl at a much faster rate. Of course, note that melee's ceiling still has not been reached (ex. mango suddenly being amazing, and a general shifting of who the top melee players are); we love melee for its seemingly infinite depth and can expect brawl to be similar. Nonetheless, I expect progress to be quicker with brawl than with melee; I'd guess that it will take us about a year to make the progress in brawl that we made in about 4 years in melee.

Agreed?

Thank you Hugs I agree with you completely.
I suck at his game and most every other game I play (I'm being serious).
Maybe I'm not actually that bad but I feel aside from some shining moments I suck.
So do what all suck people should do stop talking about sucking or not sucking and get better.
Can't wait till the 9th when I can actually play the game and being my long road of suckdom.
And to everyone that seems to think this is all about relativity and that if everybody sucks equally than everybody must be equally good, I think what you should realize that you still suck even if I can't find the ceiling suck is suck accept it and play the game till your not suck whenever that may be.

Of course. I would have made the thread myself. If it were an un known though I would tell him I agree while blatantly insulting his childish behavior whereas in this thread I'm indirectly criticizing someone who I believe to be a silly nerd...Okay maybe not completely indirectly lol. But regardless of who says it he's right. Nobody is great yet. We don't know what great is and I'm certain that one day we'll look back on these first view videos and chuckle at the lack of expertise.

And thus another one of these threads.

Who cares what people say, there's millions of people playing Brawl, soon to be a whole lot more, this thread won't go out to the people who don't come to this board and consider themselves pro. In fact, let them, it's their opinion. I say who gives a crap.

I do think people need to stop making useless advanced techniques and naming them though.

How about when you come up with an advanced tactic, you just field test it in a tournament and see how it goes over. It's a lot better than just rushing online and trying to get credit for it.

The people at E4all only did it because no one else would even see the game in a long time. We figured if we made a new technique that really no one else would be doing for a while, might as well get credit for it and hope people trust us.

Let's just keep playing brawl for kicks until tournament results start telling us who is good and who is not. Yeah? Can we all agree on that?
We probably can't.

Nothing in this world can be said without some sort of disagreement.
Hell, the cure for all diseases will probably be met with some negativity.

Well if its useless it can't really be called an advanced technique to begin with. The trouble is people are naming anything and everything thats new. Advanced play will evolve "naturally" as the players progress.

A thought just occurred to me though. If nobody is truly good then nobody can suck in the first place. Since no one has any kind of idea what good is you can't rate what is bad either. So it would be better to say that everyone is inexperienced and nobody is great and leave it at that lol.
