Hey there, picking up this ROB guy, he's a hella beast. I've checked the guides and poked around, and the thing I want to master the most about ROB is his B-air. Here's my full list of things I want to learn, and I'd like to see what you guys have to say on any points that you like, and any additional points that you can think of, feel free to bring them up.

  1. Edgeguarding with a backwards facing B-air (flame)
  2. Edgeguarding with a forwards facing B-air (headbutt!)
  3. Using B-air into other moves as a ledge-guard (when opponent is hanging)
    • B-air away from the side into ??? (f-tilt and f-smash come to mind)
    • F-Hop B-air onto a platform and follow up to counter jump recovery and ledgehop
  4. Recovery and Stalling with B-air
  5. On-stage B-air approaches
    • ...into grab
    • ...into tilts, dash A and smashes
    • ...into projectiles
    • ...other followups?
  6. B-air timings for lag canceling
  7. B-air onto a platform as a movement tech
  8. B-air to poke the bottom of shields on platforms (both directions)
  9. B-air stage-spike vs. character's up-B spacing and timing
  10. Usage vs. habitual spot-dodgers and roll spammers
  11. Whiffed/poked aerials into B-air approach
    • SH and FH F-air
    • FH N-air
    • After a succesful unsweetspotted u-air?
  12. Any uses or setups from throws or as a raw movement technique for chasing.
  13. Any cool stage-specific trixies, for instance using the height of Luigi's Mansion interior platforms to do low b-airs.

Heres a nice little trick I use.
Most of the people I casually play against don't go for the gimp, they simply camp the area on the stage.
I grab the edge and then drop back and immediately jump and do a neutral air. If you time it right you have just enough time to nair someone above you and then regrab the ledge, giving you time to get back on.
This also works with ROBs uair, fair and sometimes incredibly usefully his bair.
If you do it with his bair, sometimes you'll get behind them and push them right off the stage, immediately having time to go for the gimp.
You can also bair RAR people. You just face towards them, jump towards them and bair, using the reverse hitbox to push them forward, you jump and pursue. Usually your better off fair-ing them.

don't be *****....we're all pretty established ROBs ranging from "fine" to "really goddamm good"..but not everyone on the boards is. Believe it or not, not everyone who picks up ROB for a week realizes the beauty in such things as the auto-spacing property of B-air and how it puts you in the perfect place to attack sometimes.

good effort, though.

that said: wooooow@AiB taking this more seriously than SWF haha

lol @ AiB... i have nothing but love and respect from everyone.

I find it funny how you sarcastically called me a champ when all i did was post about my legitimate fear of bears... you are one f***ed up guy if you have to make fun of someone when they have a serious problem

Bears are like walking claw hammers with knives attached.

But back-air is basically an auto-spacing move with an extended hitbox. Use it as you please.

QQ CHOZEN! QQ

I did it for the lulz. And from what I remember from living in MD you are a champ?

Basically the point of this thread was to help me learn faster, and see if you guys had any neat uses for B-air that I couldn't think of. One thing I did learn is that you can fastfall it after the initial momentum stop which is hella useful.

Regardless of how many advanced techniques and strategies you see, you should practise tactics and gameplans that work for YOU. Just tinker around with him and see what works and what doesn't, and play with them a bit. Before you ask stuff however, try and accomplish it yourself before running to SWF for help; it usually produces better results.
3 cheers to Sarijy for posting something to help out the little guy.

You can use it the same way samus will use her bombs; changing momentum mingames and possible as a psuedo dodge.

The most amazing thing about this move?

bairing near a floor and then immediatly following with a dsmash or dtilt. a lot of the time I don't even count on hitting with the hitbox of the bair and just count on the dtilt and then combo with moar dtilts, an ftilt, or even an fsmash if the opponent is stupid enough with DI.

A couple of neat things that I found out that not everyone knows.

First of all, forward facing b-air has a little less range than a f-air, which is good to know. You can also fastfall during a B-air.

Second of all if you use your up-B, then B-air, you can continue to up-b during the animation and rise. This works with any aerial but since B-air is good for recovery and as edgeguarding attack as well it can help you eliminate some options.

A neat effect of this is if you do an up-B'd b-air into the side of the stage, you'll bounce straight off and go backward, which can set up well for more b-airs, nairs, and spikes. If you continue to up-B, you shoot up in a very unpredictable C curve.
