this isn't right...
BUM was discussed a lot, earlier in the thread and i've talked to xyro...
the matchups between these characters and DDD is completely imbalanced...
ask any of them.

from CO18 concerning this...
The infinite needs to be banned. ALL infinites need to be banned. I can get around it but literally it takes GREAT skill to not get caught in it.

Knockdowns and with it the point where you can begin DIing knockbacks is based on the amount of stun. Adding more stun makes more characters go into a tumble/fall down from DDD's d-throw, and they also go into a tumble from Falco's and can always/sooner DI the throw to avoid a regrab (when it has less stun and doesn't put you into a tumble the game doesn't let you DI the throw which is what allows it to work normally).

Did you guys know the new hitstun code fixed DDD and Falco's chaingrabs?
That doesn't really matter unless most tourneys start implementing those codes. The game left as it is, infinite grabbing is a hinderance on the progress of a match. I mean for ****'s sake, it's referred to as an "infinite". Maybe it's just me but any potentially "infinite" technique seems to wreck the experience, even if it is just for 5 characters.

All the more reason for TO's to start taking notice ;)

Fixing the CGs... =/
Well atleast ICs werent "fixed." :)
The only way to do that is to remove desync, because they're basically passing someone back and forth, and hitstun can't really change that. I mean, its the only major chaingrab that works nearly the same way between Melee and Brawl.

First off, I'm a Dedede main (When I decide I hate myself enough to play Brawl), so this isn't a complaint post.

Click here to see the infinite / how to do it.

Why is the standing infinite still allowed (I'm not talking infiniting someone against a wall, that's all on stage choices)?

It's stupidly broken, think about it. Out of 35 playable characters (Not counting Pokémon Trainer as 3), five of them are infinitable. That's 1/7th of the cast. One grab and 1/7th of the cast is repeat Dthrown to upwards of 300%, and instagibbed. If the Dedede player has a basic understanding of timing (All you really need for Brawl), 1/7th of Brawl characters are useless in this matchup. Also, as far as I know, Dedede can partially infinite other Dedede's, but I could be wrong.

"lol they shuld learn a new character". I know I'm going to hear this, and it's ********. I'll use a personal example. I don't play Brawl much, but a good friend of mine has an insane DK, he beasts. When we play, our games are usually very close, going ~60/40 my favor when I don't infinite. If I decide I want to be a massive tool and infinite him, I can usually win with < 30%. Someone with five times less experience than someone else beating the better player on their main because of an easily exploitable game mechanic. That's ****ing stupid. Why should they have to learn a new character because my character has something that completely ruins the matchup?

Wobbling is banned at most Melee tournaments because it ruined gameplay; one grab and IC's get a kill. Why should this be any different? Granted, the Wobbl worked on the entire cast, but most people pick a main and stick with them. Wouldn't you DK, Luigi, Samus, Mario and Bowser players like to have a real match against a Dedede player, instead of having to switch to some ******** counterpick?

Your thoughts.

+1 to BAN THE INFINITE.
I think this community should redisign Brawl to be balanced and remarket the entire game.

You know... Brawl 2.0. It sounds good already.

Aren't you one of the people that believes tiers don't exists/hates tournaments? I saw you in that social group.

If you don't go to tournaments just tell your friends not to do it, a ban won't make any difference in your circle of friends.

"Don't" get grabbed" Is the stupidest thing to say. It's like saying "don't get hit". Of course you're going to freaking get grabbed, and if you don't then the DDD player just plain sucks.

Saying "don't get grabbed" DOES NOT nullify the fact that DDD has a move that can instant kill you. Imagine, for example, Link's bomb would instant kill anyone. Telling someone it's fair because you can avoid it is freaking stupid.

For the love of cookies, why this again? Why is this thread even alive after this much time?

Ouh, D3 has an "infinite" that works on two characters and two others from 50% or so. No, it's not comparable to the Infinite Cape, which wins you the entire game. It only wins you one stock.

What's next, ban all chaingrabs that nets you large amounts of %? Or ban all really good combos, like Sheik's F-tilt Locks? What next? Ban anything that lasts longer than 5 moves/30%?

Some characters take it in the shorts because they can be chaingabbed/combod to death. Yay. If you want to win tournaments or do well in them, don't play as these characters. Some characters are not meant to be able to do well in tournaments.

We can't ban anything that makes certain characters unplayable. They're just bad characters. We can only ban things that make the entire game unplayable or a character way, way too good. This just makes a characters really good against a select few and a select few really bad against that one character (and it's not like any of them would be anywhere near High without it).

If you want to win, play to win. This includes picking characters that aren't easily gimped. Don't whine about how badly your character gets owned and petition to have said tactics removed.

And lol @ using codes to "fix" the game. This is exactly what I was talking about when people were all gung-ho about hacking Tripping out of Brawl. The argument then was that it was just an undesirable function no one likes or wants and which only hinders the metagame. Now people want to "fix" the hitstun.

Good job, people. Let's remake the game entirely in our image. Why play Brawl when we can just program it to our liking?

Donkey Kong, and once again, this just proves that those who are for the infinite are people who never play the infinitable characters.

Donkey Kong, and once again, this just proves that those who are for the infinite are people who never play the infinitable characters.
Or we play other Competitive fighting games Competitively, know how Competitive fighting games work, the history of fighting games, etc., etc., etc.

We're not snot-faced little n00bs who've only ever played Brawl Competitively and automatically assume that we now know everything there is to know about Competitive fighting games.

If I discovered that Zelda had an unwinnable matchup or that someone could infinite her quite easily tomorrow, I'd stop playing as her Competitively. I already abandoned Peach due to he now sucking (yes, Peach fanboys, I went there).

I do not play Competitive fighting games to play as my "favorite characters". The word "Competitive" is there for a reason. I play to win. And if I cannot win with a certain character, then I stop playing as that character Competitively.

If you insist on playing as Donkey Kong or Bowser (who aren't even that good), then stop playing Brawl Competitively. Play it "for fun". Go to tournaments and play only friendlies against characters who are not D3. Play with friends.

Whatever. Don't go to tournaments and whine about how your "favorite character" is shoddily designed and has bad matchups. Switch or suck it up and lose.

The amount of whining that goes on on Smashboards. Pretty much everything should be banned to make things "more fair" and "more even". Guess what, that's not how it works. We do not artifically re-balance the game by banning things that are perfectly legit for some characters just because gimps some others.

At least the MK-argument had some legitimacy to it. This thread just makes me laugh.

Sarcasm fail.

We have the power to change the game. Not doing so would be the ******** thing. Whether or not it turns out for the tourney scene is besides the point. The point is people are making a game they like to play better, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

We have the power to kill you too. But we won't because it's would be a crime.

Just because we can do it doesn't mean we should. Where will we stop? Once every single character 50:50s everyone else? Will we get rid of every single combo in the game? Re-program really good characters? Into what? Really good but not as good? Mid tiers? Everyone into Mid Tier?

There's a reason why no one hacks their Competitive fighting games. Because if you have to resort to hacking to make the game playable, then you're nothing more than a pathetic fanboy desperate to play your "favorite game" Competitively.

Some games are Competitively viable. Others aren't. Those that aren't should be abandoned in Competitive play.

If you're so desperate to turn Brawl into Melee, then play Melee. If you're so desperate to play Brawl just because it's Brawl, then you're just a fanboy who wants to play as your "favorite character" or whatever, not because you want to play a good game Competitively.

There's no reason to play Brawl Competitively if it's not Competitive. There's no reason to hack Brawl if it's already Competitive. If we have to hack it to turn it Competitive, then why play it at all? Why did we play it for months before we could hack it? If we don't have to hack it to make it Competitive, then we're just trying to create the game we want, not play what we have.

It's no longer about the game itself. We'll only be fanboys wanting to play as Nintendo mascots for teh lulz.

There's no stipulation that all fighting games have to be played Competitively.

Peach does much better than Zelda ;D. You want you want in.

"There's a reason why no one hacks their Competitive fighting games. Because if you have to resort to hacking to make the game playable, then you're nothing more than a pathetic fanboy desperate to play your "favorite game" Competitively."

That's because these other games get rebalanced by their makers.

Name 5 fighting games that came before the advent of online patches that were rebalanced by their makers on a deeper level than some minor changes and whose changes didn't take place in-between the release of the NTSC and PAL versions.

Other fighting game makers don't regularly re-balance their games (not before this current generation).

Why before the advent of online patches? Tekken 5, Tekken 6. SSF2T->SSF2HDR. Guilty Gear has had more revisions than I can count on a single hand.

And you have to keep in mind that these games were actually built as competitive games from the ground up. And they might not re-balance their games regularly per say, but the number of revisions doesn't strike as anything more than just that.

I'm sure Sirlin wouldn't mind, really ;].

Why before the advent of online patches?
Before Online patches allows for the makers to, you know, online patch the game instead of releasing actual revisions which requires money and more work than patches. But if you want to be picky, I'll allow those.

Tekken 5, Tekken 6. SSF2T->SSF2HDR. Guilty Gear has had more revisions than I can count on a single hand.
Tekken 5 did not get a small revision. It received a new version altogether. However, out of all that, Tekken 5: DR is pretty much the closest thing you can get to a "revision". Tekken 6? It hasn't even been released for the console yet. Are you talking about arcade revisions, also knowns as changes to beta versions?

SSF2T didn't receive an update or a revision, it received a remake... 10+ games after the original game was released!

The Guilty Gear series does not receive revisions. It receives sequels. Each new game has been completely revamped in many aspects. New mechanics, rebalancing, changes in how moves work. Each GG is comparable each new Soul Calibur when you look at how much the games have changed. Also, there's at least a year or two inbetween each new released version.

Even the music gets changed around, for crying out loud! It's not like NTSC Melee and PAL Melee, it's like Melee and Brawl, with the main difference being that each new version still uses the same graphics. However, this changed in "Accent Core", when each sprite was redrawn.

And you have to keep in mind that these games were actually built as competitive games from the ground up. And they might not re-balance their games regularly per say, but the number of revisions doesn't strike as anything more than just that.
Your definition of "revisions" is wrong. It's more of new games.

Because Brawl =/= other fighting games. Get that in your head
Blind fanboy statement. Ouh, Brawl is so special. It works differently from other games, thus nothing applies to it at all! Why play the game we buy when we can just hack it into the game we really want? I mean, since it's Brawl, it's OK, right?

Why stop at no tripping and no chaingrabs? Let's rebalance the entire game!

Question as far as rebalancing if anyone can answer for me:

As a community we could barely even debate whether Melee was more balanced than Brawl.
And as individuals, everyone has their own idea of what balance is.

When it comes to the makers of a game updating, for the most part people accept that they know best and this is how things should be even if they don't agree with it.

SO
When it comes to rebalancing a game~

[Who's to decide what's balanced and what's not?]

As a community we could barely even debate whether Melee was more balanced than Brawl.
This was when the game was still new. Also, this is because the majority of users on SWF at that point were n00bs. Either at Melee, Brawl or both. Very few people had played Brawl extensively.

Also, did I mention the rampant stupidity and ignorance? Some people thought Melee had tons of "dial-a-combo" where combos lasted longer than 3-4 hits while Brawl barely had any.

When you factor in the opinions of every member of a community, you will always get a lot of stupidity and ignorance in the mix. And since SWF has received a huge influx of new members, many of which are or at least originally were (at the time of joining SWF and Brawl was released) Casual players (and, thus, understandably ignorant about the deeper elements of Smash) ever since Brawl was announced, the intelligence quota in those early threads was very, very low.

And as individuals, everyone has their own idea of what balance is.
This is not the problem. The problem is where to stop. Where do we draw the line of what is acceptable to hack in and out of the game? When do we stop modifying it? When can we say "We're satisfied with what we have now"?

[Who's to decide what's balanced and what's not?]
The masses would prefer it be them because then they'd have a say in it.

Why is this discussion on hacks?

Note Yuna if this concerns Brawl+: It isn't about changing characters unless they gain some ******** infinite or something.

Why is this discussion on hacks?
Because someone brought up using the new hitstun hack.

Note Yuna if this concerns Brawl+: It isn't about changing characters unless they gain some ******** infinite or something.
But nothing's stopping it from being about it. Yesterday tripping, today hitstun, tomorrow, tweaking individual characters. Whatever happened to "We're only going to hack out Tripping"?

Blind fanboy statement. Ouh, Brawl is so special.
Blind moron statement. Learn to read. When did I say Brawl was special? NEVER. I said it was different.

Do you know the difference between "different" and "special"?

MNaybe you should go back to 5th grade.

It works differently from other games, thus nothing applies to it at all! Why play the game we buy when we can just hack it into the game we really want?
Tell me one reason, why we shouldn't hack! Beside the fact that we don't even need to do so?

I mean, since it's Brawl, it's OK, right?
It would be just as "right" or "wrong" as with any other fighting game

Why stop at no tripping and no chaingrabs? Let's rebalance the entire game!
Why? CGs will stay in the game. Tripping will stay in the game. Problem solved.
