Alice in Chains' unplugged stuff is the greatest. Same goes for Godsmack. Running Blind is my favorite Godsmack song.

I was listening to the radio today, and I guess Godsmack is coming to CT or something. Anyway, there was a contest, you had to guess the namse of three songs, and they played three short clips in a row. I was confused at first, because He played a clip then asked them to name thesongs, and I was like 'Huh? Isn't he going to play the next two?'

My personal vote goes to Page, probably. Amazing stuff.

But the guitarist I idolize the most is Synyster Gates of Avenged Sevenfold. The guitar stuff I can listen to for ages without complaint. ^_^

Jimmy Page is also one of my personal favorites, but another personal fav. of mine would have to be Adam Jones. I love all of the solos he's able to pull off in nearly every Tool song.

Maynard, Danny Carey, and Justin Chancellor are also spectacular in what they do as well.

Jimmy Page, good guitarist, but everyone who starts a guitar can play "Whole Lotta Of Love" and "Stairway To Heaven", that they've just gotten annoying now. So many people just starting say "I CAN PLAY STAIRWAY!!!" So can just about everyone else.

I'm suprised no one has said Allen Collins (Lynyrd Skynyrd), Randy Rhoads (Ozzy Osbourne), or Joe Walsh (The Eagles) yet.

Prince and Frank Zappa are also VERY* under rated

*I cannot even begin to say how much repsect these guys deserve, but don't get from the general public

Ahh yes, the ever lasting debate that is the best guitarists.

For me, the best guitarist that has ever lived is Randy Rodes. Next to him, comes Pantera's Dimebag Darrell.

RIP Dime.

Meh i am so biased on this subject its not even funny, i hate most metal sorry but i can't deny that they are good artists, not for their substance but for their ability to play insanely fast.. I've played guitar for 8 years and i can't touch that.. i just think their over-the-top and imho not that good...

None of the music i listen to is really notable for guitar... So i guess Hendrix, even though i didn't listen to him all that much, is where its at

I just started listening to Vinnie Moore a few days ago. I actually really like his stuff. One of those guitarists who got lost underneath the hype of Malmsteen, and doesn't get much recognition. He's got some really great guitar skills, and unlike alot of guitarists, his songs actually sound really nice.

I enjoy Synyster Gates. That whole band has quite alot of raw talent. I mostly like them because of their creepy atmosphere though. Fun to listen to. Although they do scare me a little bit...

****, no one has mentioned Duane Allman yet. Though his career was short he was amazing. Rolling Stone even ranked him #2 all-time.

I agree, I love "Whipping Post" and "Jessica". RS also ranked the Allman Brothers Band the 52nd greatest band ever.
