Well, I main Toon Link and for a secondary I'm leaning towards Marth. I think he'll be my secondary.

Try checking Toon Link's matchups to see who he is bad against. Then see what characters have an advantage over that character. That way you can counterpick.

snake is op (so he is the obvious choice) but if you are looking for someone different i would suggest kirby cause he is like tl but without the projectiles well to me anyway

Funny. I also choose marth as a secondary. Also, I choose MK, just because he also has a sword >< (first char I played)

Yea I picked up Marth as well.

I aslo just play Charizard because he is so epic and I love screaming when I connect with a Rock Smash. I usually just do it to piss people off.
hehe :}

But back to being serious. Marth is a good choice and can do well against characters that give your Toon Link a hard time.
I usually will go Marth against MK's, Snake's, Olimar, and just others that sometimes I cant beat with Tl.
Sometimes, even Ice Climbers.

I main Kirby, but I picked up TL and Marth as well. It's good to be really versatile with your character picks because it's not only the characters, but other player's play styles too. (P.s. pick up Kirby he's so cute ^_^)

It seems like many people are saying Mr. G&W.
Most Mr. G&W players secondary Wario, so that is an option.
The option which I took.

Honestly, Marth v MK is an even matchup.... Marth covers all of the other weak TL matches very well... that is why most TL mains use Marth as their secondary. I main TL and Lucas, while using Marth as my secondary.... between them, I cover just about every matchup.

I use Ness as my secondary (lol) because he seems to fit my playstyle as well. Probably not the best choice, but I use him anyway. I also use MK. I just can't get good w/ Marth though...

I always thought it was weird that Tl mains always second Marth. I used to main TL but now I am starting to lean more toward D3 or Marth.

meh it truly depends on your style and what you like, i main toon link and the ice climbers and TL patches up what IC can't handle...and IC are good for both projectiles and up close fights so its all up to you...or you could listen to everyone else and conform :p

I go w/ falco lol

he can get gimped by meta, but he can also chain grab meta up to like 30/40, and hinder his approach with well placed lasers/reflectors. Also, his sliding u-smash thing (like the mortar slide but for falco) is a neat trick for catching metas off guard in the air. He can also kill with a bair/dair/f-smash/d-smash. And it's always sexy to go downthrow to fair at the edge.

I would say Falco Marth or MK would be a safe bet. they do good in match-ups toon can't quite deal with and are realitvly easy characters to use

I like to second Ike, I don't know why, but I find lv9 marths and my friends marth skills to be very suckish compared to my Ike-play as my TL's second.

How does Marth fare against Wolf(a bad match up for TL)?
wolf is a huge trouble for marth if you dont know what to do...

so... if hes a typical wolf, hell camp, id suggest you to take the fight to the air, use stage platforms to your aid if youre not on FD and be aware of his side+b, use your fairs and nairs to approach effectively, counter if he gets too predictable with his f/d smash... if you get close range your best option is dancing blades

that was the hard part... the easy part is to gimp his predictable/crappy recovery... send him down stafe or stage spike him with bair, or just push him away twice with fairs

also, you have tipper, if you land a killer one, youre good, its just like marth's lottery for spacing well... do this and youll easily kill him

Wolf isn't that hard for TL if you have played against a few wolfs before.

Stay airborne to avoid the laser spammage, and watch out for his fair that approaches like ridiculous. You can combo the hell out of wolf, and his recovery is pretty easy to gimp.

If you know how to get around the lasers you are OK in my opinion.

But that's kind of aside from the point...

I'm pretty decent with Marth, and he isn't a big change from TL. I also play as Ganondorf, but o be honest I have even more trouble with my hard match-ups when I paly as him, but I enjoy it so w.e.

Marth seems like a good idea b/c if TL isn't doing the trick, projectiles obviously arent a good strategy. His range is a lot better than TLs. I'm gonig to keep thinking about this.

Your secondary needs to compliment your main. So any matchup that TL does bad in, use a character that does well.

For me, I have trouble against mainly MK now. Anyone else I can deal with.

So lately I've been thinking of using DK. TL doesnt always have the KO power against some characters that have great recoveries and that are heavy (ROB and Snake, hell MK can be tough to kill at times). So DK seems to be pretty good since he has good range and KO potential.

Online, against people who spam roll dodges... I use Bowser since his fortress just eats everything alive and abuses bad spacing.

I used to go G&W and Marth has secondaries, but they don't seem to do the trick in some matchups.

I agree QUIVO. I want a secondary main to complement my main, which is most likely Toon Link. Personally, I go with ROB but that's only because he's one of the other few characters I'm good with and have potential with. But honestly, I want to pick someone who can counter my enemy... Metaknight! I first need to find out what are HIS counters though, so I'll have to do some digging around for who counters him and which one of those characters I'm good with. =p

Snake is supposed to be a good counter against Metaknight. Utilt can kill pretty easily, grenades can stop tornado, etc etc. Plus, Snake can get out of any chaingrab.

ROB is a good character as well. I'm not sure how he does against MK though. I'll update when i ask Overswarm

Personally, I have a two way tie for my secondary mains. Wario or Lucas seem to fit the role pretty well.

All right then. Thanks a lot for the help, man! I'll wait for it.

Personally, I don't want to have Snake be my secondary main since I hate him and can't reall use him anyway, but we'll see what are good Metaknight counters after you find out. And yeah... I like ROB and all and he IS good but I don't think he counters anyone who can kill Toon Link and he kinds fights similarly in that he's meant to be a long range attacker and he's good a comboing wit his aerials (not saying he's similar to Toon Link, but it's just that that's how I feel =p). I might stick with ROB but we'll see.

DK is a good choice to counter MK, unless he manages to get you off the stage.

As for ROB, I'm feeling kirby on that match up.

Marth doesn't seem to be a good choice b/c he can't really handle TL's bad match-ups anyways. Against MK, I'd say it's even at best, and ROB beats him. He does OK against an Olimar I guess.

Kirby beats ROB and olimar, and DK beats MK (at least from what I'm reading on some of the threads in their boards)

I will give those match-ups a shot and get back to you guys on how that's going. Ultimately, however, I would rather use TL especially for his bad match-ups, jsut to get better at it.
