There's a difference between "stealing" certain good aspects of someone's playstyle and copying it entirely. The former is more or less necessary if you want to improve, (since some things are too good to be neglected just for the sake of having your own, untainted playstyle), but the latter will just make you end up as a worse version of whoever it is you're copying.

More or less what I meant

You can steal things like option coverages / tricks but learning when / why to do things is on you

Your own style is the best style
Copying other people's style doesn't work in the long run

I do copy every trick hax does and It drastically improve my game. People play their own style but I'll try to play like hax cause I understand the way he is playing. S2j's insane too but I don't understand the way he is playing.

I didn't say it doesn't help to emulate certain aspects of someone's playstyle to an extent but I think there's a reason all the top Falcons look different when you watch them play

I think Darkrain and Scar are good to emulate because their styles are real easy to understand and not so hard to emulate (maybe not Scar double knees..). Hax is pretty easy to understand also but I find he's too technical and quick sometimes for me to be able emulate

I wonder about that, can you actually emulate a style from someone else? It will lack the full understanding behind every move. You may not be as fast, you will do slight different decisions which cannot compare to anyone. What makes a style more understandable than someone else? Is it your own understanding of the game which make you think you are emulating someone? How do you go about that?

Well, with Darkrain, you can really just watch his dash dances and see how he is calm even when he's in a bad situation and is pretty cornered. I find it easy to see his thought process and how he gets his openings. With Scar, I think his approaches, out of shield game, and pivots are all very logical. He doesn't use full hops too much and stays grounded a lot. This is a lot easier for me to understand than Mango full hopping for 5 minutes, or S2J's ridiculous aggressive mixups, or anything SS does, but you are right, this understanding does stem from my own style of play.

Hax is way too technical for me to even come close to emulating, and S2J and SS make decisions/mixups that I would probably never think of in a million years. GG7 also plays a relatable style, though I haven't heard anything from him in over a year, did he retire?

He didn't say complicated he said technical. Hax does a lot of pivot SHs and has really tight movement timings. I try to pull some stuff i see from him but he is just way too precise to try and emulate consistently.

Speaking of what hax does, he does a few things that no other falcons do for some reason. I was wondering if you guys knew why.

-In certain situations where double knee is guaranteed, he goes for an instant fast up air instead of a second knee for some reason. How come?

-He uses wavedash to move around way more than any other top falcons. Why?

@wavedashing - probably because his movement is super jerky and wavedashing adds to that
@Uairing - who cares not everyone / nobody punishes optimally all the time and it's not like Hax doesn't know about double knees

I think Mango's style makes a lot more sense than attacking at the fastest rate
Fullhopping with Falcon is pretty good

Mango's style is similar to Darkrain's except he's able to play exactly the way he wants because he's better than anyone basically. He will punish you left and right if you can't contend with every little things he does, there's sooo much detail it's sick! I love playing him. What I got from Mango when i played him for 5 hours straight was that, he'll basically force you to play his game.. it's really hard to force him to play yours... omg.. lol. The only reason I can win games is because my style is anti-momentum so it works really well vs him. Very aggressive styles get owned by mine.

To be fair, I don't think Darkrain classifies as aggressive (Kage said as much after FC, iirc).

I just watched NEC GFs, and I have to say that even though I don't like Falcon too much (includes watching him), Hax makes me pretty excited. I'm pulling for him to beat M2K next time.

Darkrain's playstyle is very good, and very safe when he's trying.
That said, for whatever reason a Falcon player being good at what Falcon does is inherently entertaining to the majority of smashers regardless of whether it's aggressive or campy. This also holds true for particularly bad characters; people go nuts when a Samus starts missile storming on Stadium or a Bowser uses his one good move.

I didn't say he was aggressive, I said he felt like a similar style to Mango.. he's definitely defensive overall but when I played both of them it felt similar to what I needed to deal with. I mean Darkrain can effectively shut you down, he just does it differently a little.
