Characters that best exemplify Nintendo, new or old, yet currently unpresent in SSB

Too often revelling in my own selfish bias, I've held considerations as to which Nintendo characters, throughout it's history, I personally would most like to see playable. Absorbed in sheer favoritism, I vied between legitimacy and bias and the latter had greater authority, only my most liked characters were chosen and were of interest.

However, that does not seem to me, with my limited viewpoint, not having played any role in the game's production, to be what Super Smash Bros is about (at least in the case of Brawl). R.O.B. was nothing more than an odd figure I had glimpsed a handful of times and knew the most marginal amount of information about, yet his role in Nintendo's video game past is striking and may be unique (I am unsure), and due to that, he was chosen as a playable character, above characters more desired by fans of the Super Smash Bros series.

In addition, while I cannot speak of the reasoning behind Mr.Game and Watch's inclusion, he too seems to be a unique persona amongst Nintendo's past endeavors, though he seems more a representation than an individual character.

Nintendo's past, their present, and perhaps even their future seem legitimate sources of characters, reasoning, and ideas from which to draw, whom amongst Nintendo's history best exemplifys them, and can function as a unique character drawing predominantly from source material?

I'd be very interested in hearing your opinions. I have one seemingly viable character I do not remember being mentioned in any discussion I've read, but I will bring that character up later if this thread accumulates attention.

Also, a discussion of Brawl's (specifically Brawl's) character's and series roles in Nintendo's history seems very much deserved.

What trends and successes has Nintendo seen in recent time? Perhaps a list of my understanding, something of an answer to that question,

-Touch generations

-Mii based games to attract a broader range of interest, expanding beyond (relativley) gamers and children alone

-Certain DS successes, such as Animal Crossing:Wild World, Pokemon Diamond/Pearl, etc., each selling an excess of 4 million copies in Japan alone

-The general idea of a fresh, less intimidating and more natural way to play games (specifically, the Wii)

I hope this original post covers a legitimate number of topics (it has gradually expanded), and is relativley coherent.

Game and watch was in Melee because Gunpei Yokoi (his creator) was killed in a car accident a few years earlier.

The character Mr. Game and Watch is a tribute to him and his wacky Game and Watch game creations.

I think Sukapon because that was Nintendo's first major try at fighting games and the basis on which the Smash series was created.

To a couple of the above posts, the OP is asking for characters that exemplify Nintendo, not RARE. As for Nintendo characters, we have almost all of those that exemplify what it is (and is why we have many extras in Brawl, because it has just about all of those "necessary" characters). However, if I had to choose one more character that I feel is slathered in Nintendo-iconic greatness (and this in no way can match up to such icons as Mario, Link, and Pikachu) it would have to be... Master Chief Goomba.

Goomba because it was the first enemy to appear in Super Mario Bros. and has appeared in just about every Mario title to date. It is most definitely iconic in its own right. Just about everyone that knows who Mario is has seen a Goomba and knows what it is. Now, I'm not saying that I want one as a PC, but I'm answering your question as to who I think is one of Nintendo's most iconic characters.

Advance Wars series characters. I really was pretty shocked that none of them actually got a role as a playable character. I'm not too sure how popular they were, but I thought it took the cake for the best turn based strategy game on a hand held. It also boasted the brand spanking new Gameboy Advance. Plus, they have a large cast of characters and could easily work in a move set for a good few of them. Heck, just give Hawke the current Gannondorf's moveset and a different Final Smash and you have a character right there. :/

Omg you're absolutely right! I could have definitely seen Goomba being added to Brawl as a WTF character. He is pretty famous too. If people don't know his name, they'll surely recognize him.

You were shocked? Really? I hope you've exaggerated. I'd never expect an Advance Wars character to be playable. Why? I don't think COs play well into martial fighting, and I can't imagine how using units would work at all. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Advance Wars. However, I also love SSB, and I would hate to taint it by including a character that doesn't fit the feel of the game and fit well with the other characters. It might be possible, but I can't support it.

But, really? You were shocked?

Yokoi also created Metroid, Kid Icarus, the Gameboy, and the Virtual Boy (which practically destroyed his reputation despite being the man who made Miyamoto what he is today).

Anyways, Golden Sun, Nintendo/Advance Wars, Animal Crossing, and Brain Age should definately be represented in the next game:

-Golden Sun represents Camelot which is the only major second party to Nintendo that hasn't been properly represented yet.

-Nintendo/Advance Wars because it's a franchise that goes back to the late 80's and is still Nintendo's only genuine strategy franchise.

-Animal Crossing... self explanitory.

-Brain Age was pretty much the game that blew open the doors for the casual market and heavily contributed to Nintendo's current success.

Advance Wars is represented. It's in an Assist Trophy, and I think it fits well. How would you propose fitting a playable character, if that's what you mean?

The same goes for Animal Crossing. They all seem very placid.

And Brain Age? Seriously? It's popular, sure, but how in any way does it fit SSB?

I think Gulliver or tom nook from animal crossing would be a nice addition.
I know that this is really given in this type of thread and i know this is a capcom character, but megaman.

Megaman and simon belmont fo' sho'.
even if they aren't by nintendo, back in the NES days, they weren't any less nintendo than mario and zelda themselves.

also, Ray MK III/01 and Takamaru because I said so.

I wish MegaMan was in it. I know he's not a Nintendo character, but I just had to say it.

As for nintendo characters:

I dunno...

Vaati?
Fierce Diety Link? (Perhaps maybe as a Final Smash for Toon Link.)
I would have loved to see someone else from the Metroid series. Gandrayda, Ghor, Sylux, or something.

I'm trying to only thing or serious playable characters. Not like, goombas or koopas or something.

Ridley. Seriously, he has been around since always and it's a pretty recognizable villain and one of the main villains in nintendo history.

I think Toad is a major Nintendo character that has been under-respresented; only making an appearance as Peach's attacks. If you look back to a game like Mario Kart 64, Toad is the only character in that roster to not be playable on Smash.

I'm not sure what kind of attacks he'd have, or if it would be possible to turn him into a decent fighter, but he's definitely an important character in Nintendo's history, so I thought he was worth mentioning.

At my computer! DUH!
I'm sorry...seeing the animal crossing people beating others up would be downright disturbing. <.<

Either way, I'd love to see either A. Pac man (okay, technichally not nintendo, but he'd fall in the same category as snake/sonic) B. Krystal, or C. A downsized Ridley. (Like from the opening of Melee, not that enormous thing from the GBA)

I feel selfishly, and perhaps undeservedly, compelled to mention that this thread's predominant intent was to discuss which characters best exemplify Nintendo, yet are not yet playable in Super Smas Bros. Brawl. Not for the sake of informing others of whom your favorite characters happen to be.

everyone cares way to much about characters, and not about the actual gameplay itself...
It could be the worse game ever, no one will care though cause Ridley is in it
That's funny because I could have sworn everyone was complaining about no wavedashing and such for the first few weeks.

I'd have to go with the Animal Crossing series. Extremely popular series.

Megaman and Castlevania would work as well, but they're third parties.
