Too often revelling in my own selfish bias, I've held considerations as to which Nintendo characters, throughout it's history, I personally would most like to see playable. Absorbed in sheer favoritism, I vied between legitimacy and bias and the latter had greater authority, only my most liked characters were chosen and were of interest.
However, that does not seem to me, with my limited viewpoint, not having played any role in the game's production, to be what Super Smash Bros is about (at least in the case of Brawl). R.O.B. was nothing more than an odd figure I had glimpsed a handful of times and knew the most marginal amount of information about, yet his role in Nintendo's video game past is striking and may be unique (I am unsure), and due to that, he was chosen as a playable character, above characters more desired by fans of the Super Smash Bros series.
In addition, while I cannot speak of the reasoning behind Mr.Game and Watch's inclusion, he too seems to be a unique persona amongst Nintendo's past endeavors, though he seems more a representation than an individual character.
Nintendo's past, their present, and perhaps even their future seem legitimate sources of characters, reasoning, and ideas from which to draw, whom amongst Nintendo's history best exemplifys them, and can function as a unique character drawing predominantly from source material?
I'd be very interested in hearing your opinions. I have one seemingly viable character I do not remember being mentioned in any discussion I've read, but I will bring that character up later if this thread accumulates attention.
Also, a discussion of Brawl's (specifically Brawl's) character's and series roles in Nintendo's history seems very much deserved.
What trends and successes has Nintendo seen in recent time? Perhaps a list of my understanding, something of an answer to that question,
-Touch generations
-Mii based games to attract a broader range of interest, expanding beyond (relativley) gamers and children alone
-Certain DS successes, such as Animal Crossing:Wild World, Pokemon Diamond/Pearl, etc., each selling an excess of 4 million copies in Japan alone
-The general idea of a fresh, less intimidating and more natural way to play games (specifically, the Wii)
I hope this original post covers a legitimate number of topics (it has gradually expanded), and is relativley coherent.
