Competitive charecters

I'm going to be participating in an online Brawl tournament this weekend, I was curious which charecters are generaly considered good by competitive players.

I looked at the post with most popular charecters and that had Pit as the highest, but I figure that's counting casual players who may not represent the really tough people I may face.

So summed up, which charecters are most chosen by those players who wish to win tournaments and such?
(this is not to alter my choice, it's just so I can have a basic idea which charecters I should be looking out for, and why)

I don't know what you mean by competitive players, I would call myself that. But the most broken character is Metaknight. Toon Link is good too, but nowhere near as broken as Metaknight.

Also Olimar plus C-stick, I heard that was good

Well, I can tell you from experiance.
I'm currently partaking in the galaxy.forumwise.com wifi tournament, and I'm in the semifinals.
(the tournament is divided into 4 brackets, I came out on top in bracket 3)
A common pick was Toon Link, Pit, and (ready?) R.O.B.
I chose Marth. (being that I didn't have a lot of time to prepare for the tournament and very busy, and he, surprisingly, hadn't changed much from his melee counterpart)
Usually, it all depends on your type of fighting style, not what others choose. (well, the exception is the tier list, which others may have a misconception reguarding a Brawl tier list, since their isn't one right now)

Edit: I have nothing against R.O.B., I'm just surprised he was one of the favorite choices.

Ok, so sounds like I should expect -

Pit
Diddy Kong
Meta Knight
R.O.B.
Olimar
Toon Link
(no particular order in that list btw)

Anyone else got anything to add or perhaps subtract? it's obviously not a huge deal, the charecter I chose and the way I play won't be affected (just the way I prepare perhaps), But they say: Know your enemy.

Edit: Thanks for the input so far and any more in the future.

uhmm... Whoever you are good with is a good competitive character... My main is TL, but I like Marth, Pit and Ike a lot too. Still learning Ike though.

****, no one mentioned Lucas at all even considering the fact that most the techniques that have been discovered recently benefit him the most.

I'm not much of a Lucas player, and the techs that are being discovered such as wavebouncing benefit him the most, but it isn't game changing to the point where everyone should be switching to him.

Other characters such as TL have techs such as the SHDA as well so Lucas isn't the only one.

Please completely read original post, I was asking what I can expect Other people to use, I already know who I will use, and thats not what the thread is about.

Thanks for the input anyways though.

I'd say that you should expect to see a lot of Pit's, Marth's, TL's, Shieks, Wolf, Fox, Ike and maybe D3's. A lot of people like to play Ike for some reason, so expect to play a lot Ike's and Marth's. Pit is one of the more popular new comers a long with Wolf as well.

I'd definitely expect a surplus of Marths, Meta Knights, Pits, Ikes, and Toon Links. But who knows, you could get stuck with anybody.

Yeah Metaknight is a popular newcomer too.. Expect to face a lot of MK users. MK isn't great at KOing, but he is extremely quick, so whatever character you are using, use that information to your advantage.. Maybe try to spam projectiles because MKs range isn't bad, and if you get to close his quick attacks will do a lot of % to you. After you get him to high percents, try to hit him above the stage, unless he is at a high enough % to knock him off the side otherwise he will just recover pretty easily.

Ike, Pit, and Toon Link are probably what you will see a lot of if the players are more casual. As the player pool average skill level rises you will probably see Metaknight substituted for Ike.
