Yah actually Akira was the first (real) anime that I ever saw...in like 1993 when Sci Fi channel did saturday morning anime. It blew my freaking mind.
And Vampire Hunter D (THE FREAKING ORIGINAL) is absolutely classic. Same with um Iria and Demon City Shinjuku and Robot Carnival ect.
Of course I watched some dubbed imports when I was a kid, too.
Point is, Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro is from 1979 and has pretty much the best animation you will ever see.

Yeah, I wondered why the line was so long. I got my Daiquiri Ice for 33 cents. Spectacular.
LOL, in 1993 i was watching the same anime as you on sci-fi with my dad =), it's how i got into anime. akira and vampire hunter d(original) were two of the first animes i had ever seen. also, aeon flux, and some other one i can't recall...but people were transformed into parts for a machine? something about a stopwatch? if anyone could figure it out i'd love you forever =$. also cog, have you seen VHD bloodlust?

AEon flux isn't really an anime.
Yeah I've seen bloodlust, it was pretty good. I still prefer the original if for nothing more than nostalgia. I remember it being a hit with us too because of boobies XD
Ninja Scroll was another classic.
