Just wondering if people switched it up at all between Melee and Brawl. I took such a long break from Melee between Brawl that the double-claw difficult for me. Since the Z button is really only useful for grabs now and Marth's grabs got nerfed hard I found myself dumping it all together. Now I sort of stick my right index finger on the A/X button, thumb on C-stick, use left index for shielding and throw my right ring finger up on Z when I'm going to put myself in a grabbing situation. What do you all use?

When I use cube controller (which is rarely), I use my right thumb to jump (Y), A, B, and C-stick. Right index on the inside edge of R (so it's not in the groove, it's closer to me) and I'll switch it to Z for grab.

On the classic, I use my right thumb for jump (X), A, B, grab (changed to Y), and the right analog stick, or "c-stick." Right index on R. Sometimes I'll put my left index on L (which I also changed to grab), but not often.

I've used my thumb for face buttons since NES, and have never used L for hardly anything, ever. Even in Melee, I "l-cancelled" with R, shielded with R, etc.

The L was for Lag, i believe. It was just convenient you could do it with the L button.

I thought about looking at other control styles briefly, but the Gcube controller is one of my favorite controllers period, so I didn't think too long. I'm still considering trying out a classic controller, but I don't own one, and I'm not quite ready to buy one just for Brawl until I've had a chance to try it out first, see if I even like it at all.

Edit: Oh, uh, and I turned off tap jump, but may switch that back.

Ah, I forgot, I turned off tap jump as well. I love it that way.

My reasoning for the classic was that since there is no longer light-shielding (even though I didn't really use it), it is faster to hit the R button on a classic controller since it's a shorter button. Plus since you can change the buttons around, I don't have to worry about not reaching the grab button since the Z buttons are way out of the way on the classic. I just changed grab to Y.

I have Z set to jump, and use the X button to grab. This seemed logical as now my specials, normals and grabs are all in the same area. This is good because you never need to press any of those at the same time.

Also this method allows you to easily jump and use your thumb on the C-stick or B button to do aerials. Overall this works a charm for me. Tap jump is off and I just use L and R for shielding depending on my character's orientation.

I use Z to jump and Thumb for C-stick as well, much much easier. Might switch special from B to Y so I don't move my thumb. I shieldgrab most of the time so I don't really use a grab button, but I set it to L since I never use L.
