My big goal for the roster is to revive a bunch of unused characters, but mostly to get people to do "Wait. That's canon now?" or "I can't believe they put them in the game!"

sketched up a roster of my own {!!!} -prominent in how it introduces new and old characters into the super mario echelon, i figure if mario kart is the highest-selling mario property, it'd be a good way to usher new kinfolk in!

punch + dolce {punch is canonized as an aspiring stage actor who played mario in the theatrical production of super mario bros. 3 - dolce is his enigmatic stage manager who postures around with grace and aplomb. perhaps punch, if carried into additional spin-offs, could be the peppy young actor of the mario cast, or a gigantic fan of mario himself!}

Really love the funky art style you have here! The new characters are intriguing as well. Punch is probably my favorite, having a character based on the idea that Mario in SMB3 wasn't really Mario but some guy playing him is actually super cool and now I kind of want to see this happen for real.

Also, never thought I'd see a fellow Tropical Wiggler enthusiast out there! Very glad to see other people appreciate that silly dodgeball caterpillar like I do.

In celebration of Mario Day, here's my new and improved dream Mario Kart Roster.

Matching the size of Smash Ultimate's roster, and taking into account the 40 years since this franchise's beginning, I wanted to make it feel like a full culmination of everything it has to offer, both in terms of mainline games, and giving some much needed love to its many, less represented subseries, likelihood of actually happening or not be damned.

(Man I've been meaning to post this for ages)

This roster is effectively how I would build off the known roster for the Switch 2 Mario Kart so far while trying to be somewhat realistic. Not a prediction, not even necessarily a wishlist/ dream roster, though it does have a tiny bit of bias here. I only had three things in mind when making this roster:

1: The roster must be 48 characters, no more, no less. (Same roster size as MK8D's final roster, funnily enough. It's double the number of racers per race though, so it felt like a serviceable number to end on, and with a few cuts, it still allows for a bit of fresh newcomer picks. I'm not expecting the roster to be that much bigger than MK8D's anyways.

2: Since it's supposed to be somewhat realistic, I made sure to add a few "clone"/ asset-reuse characters (like Funky Kong and Metal Mario).

3: I made this under the assumption that, instead of having characters locked to a specific engine class as per usual, MK9 goes down the Crash Team Racing remake route and lets any character have any engine class.

I would explain the character additions and cuts, but I'm really not feeling up to it at the moment. Only thing I'm bothering to explain is that Rex is a "clone" pick built off of Yoshi. The other "clones" should be obvious.
