He's probably the most iconic 3rd party character from a series that has not been in Smash, yet no one gives a **** about him anymore. So sad.
Considering how big the series was back in the day & how unpopular it is now, I don't think any series died as hard as Crash did. Had the series ended dignifyingly with CTR instead of being led to ruin with the 9-year post-Naughty Dog downward spiral, I don't think there would be as much hate. I really don't care much about popularity, but Crash being as iconic as he was in the 90's and having almost no chance of being in smash (despite the Nintendo/Activision partnership) is extremely disappointing. But oh well.

Sony did all they could to bury him, and they succeeded.
From what I've read, it was Universal Interactive Studios that was the problem. Naughty Dog did all the developing & Sony did the marketing. Aside from Mark Cerny's efforts, Universal wasn't doing much for the series. For the most part they were just milking the series for every penny it was worth & I think they were getting like 50% of the profits. Crash was partly owned by Universal so there wasn't much Sony or Naughty Dog could do. And when Naughty Dog was burned out from making Crash games do you think they would just let them have a break? Nope. Their greed drove them to keep pushing for more Crash releases, even if it meant Naughty Dog permanently leaving the series behind. The greed of Universal led them to publish Crash games made by less gifted developers. The quality of the games sharply declined along with Crash's popularity. And it was all for the quick buck. Unsurprisingly sales declined and they eventually sold themselves to Vivendi which later merged with Activision. That's the mark of a crumby company. Had they been a cool company and gave Naughty Dog a well-deserved break from Crash to focus on other projects, Crash would probably be alive and well today and Universal would have probably made more money in the long run.

are you sure?
I knew I'd get a reply for that statement lol. Despite all of the heavy marketing, I don't think Bubsy was any where near as big of a hit with the masses as Crash was - especially in Japan. So I think Bubsy's decline was no where near as big as Crash's. Earthworm Jim's decline is unfortunate but I still don't think that series was as big as Crash was. Crash was about as popular as Sonic & Mario at one point in time. I have no idea what that other animation is. Probably the only death that can rival Crash's is Banjo's. Mega Man is not really dead if it's still owned by Capcom. Depending on Konami's uncertain future with video games, Snake & Bomberman could very well die off too, which would be as devastating as Crash's death. But I really hope that doesn't happen.

Well, I've seen this thread for awhile, but I think it's time I post in here. Crash was a favorite of mine as a kid. Pretty much owned almost all of his games growing up, with the first and titan games being the only ones I haven't played yet. Obviously his chances of getting into Smash are very low compared to other 3rd parties (It sucks that he couldn't even get into PSABR as a character along with Spyro). Even with that, his popularity has dropped A LOT. However, seeing Crash with Mario and Sonic would be my childhood coming to life, and it makes me sad that he couldn't be as popular as he used to be. With that said, I would like to show my support! He's not exactly on my want list, but I do support the bandicoot, even if it is a pipe dream.

To be fair, Crash died off because his later games were just bad beyond bad....mediocre at best. Original 2 were downright awesome dont get me wrong i loved them, the ones after that were pretty lame.
He became one of those characters people love to hate because he WAS awesome and crashed *badum tssh* so hard. Unlike other genres that had a bad game and made changes to bounce back, Crash just kept doing dumber stuff.

That being said, i would still love to see him in sm4sh. Why after that last rant? Simple, he's still a very memorable character from my teen years and face it he's a hilarious addition. I want great character designs in smash more than i want reps for Nintendo's games. Crash falls in that category of just being an awesome pick because of his quarkyness and hilarity.

Banjo was quite the success but lacked the length of run Crash had. Megaman seems to be in a weird state of living off cameos and Bomberman is quite dead indeed, sadly. Crash might not have the sway he once did but he's still a well known name because of how iconic he once was and if Nintendo wants characters that made history, well, Crash is up there with Megaman, Banjo and Sonic. Not quite as genre defining as Pacman, Ryu and Bomberman (who is likely too in limbo to make it) but still a top contender.

Also about the Bubsy comment. Bubsy was nowhere NEAR as big as Crash when he was popular. Ive met tons and tons of people my own age (and a little older since technically the SNES is almost as old as me) thats never heard of Bubsy, but almost everybody that had a Playstation or was big into gaming about that timeframe knows of Crash Bandicoot.

Earthworm Jim is more known because of the cartoon than the game. Though im also sad to see him die off since he was hilarious.

Sorry for the bump, but I thought that would be more adequate to ask this here;
reposting from another thread;

"Guys, I dunno if someone here know about this, but... I was thinking:
When Activision acquired the IP Crash Bandicoot, they acquired everything, right? ... That means they probably own all the games before their acquisition too.

--Can Activision release the old Crash games in other platforms? Or the fact that these titles being published by Sony Computer Entertainment is an issue?

I know these titles are all available at PSN right now, but we don't know the agreement behind this, right?.. Naughty Dog probably doesn't even need to have a word in these re-releases, since Activision is now owner of the franchise, and they do what they want to..

It's confusing;.. but my guess is that the Activision and Sony have a deal to maintain these titles exclusive to PlayStation platforms just for some image relationships.. But since Sony wasn't the financier of these games back in the day, they don't have any debt to pay with exclusivity with the company (like Bayonetta 2 with Nintendo, and recently, Street Fighter V with Sony); at least, not anymore..

Can someone clear this for me? Is my supposition right?"

If Activision sold Crash to Nintendo, I'd support this. (Unlikely given Crash's reference in PS4 advertising indicating he's likely to return).

That said, if Naughty Dog is willing to sell anthropomorphic mascots to someone like activision, skip Crash, do the smart thing, buy Sly Cooper.

I'm certain that Crash is basically like Mega Man, being that he's dead and that Sony has no interest in him at all

So after a time for thinking, I decided to join the cause of Crash Bandicoot! It's clearly too late... the Ballot will just end in the next month and he didn't get the attention he deserves.. But I'd like to help to spread some mockups and arguments that will stir people's imagination; If he (sadly) doesn't get this time, he'll be a relevant name in the market once again, with our help; --please, let me know what you guys think about my proposal, and share with friends, other boards, everywhere you can!

Warning: Big Image

I'll be working in some other things for these last days campaign

Thanks! Glad to know I'm reaching the right point! =D.. as I posted on the Nintendo Social Thread, here more things to better illustrate his presence in the game;

------
Also, I'd like to invite everyone to bump this thread and make it always relevant, please, I have much more to offer and I couldn't double or triple post.

And there other thing.. REALLY IMPORTANT: Me and my friends are working in a video campaign, a viral! All of us will be posting (soon, today hopefully) short videos with us dancing the famous Crash Dance! This will spread the campaign with the hashtag #Crash4Smash , There will be a Official Twitter account to share the videos and I'll be leading and showing to both Nintendo and Activision. Let's make these last days worthy!

I don't have much hope for him getting in smash 4 due to his sharp decline in popularity over the years. I cant even mention Crash on other sites without being rediculed. It's really sad. Crash still has a strong fanbase though - both in the west & (luckily) in Japan. But I don't think the size of the fanbase is anywhere near big enough at the moment. He could get in the top 30 or top 25 on ballot - which isn't too shabby for a series as neglected as Crash. There are probably a dozen or so characters that will get in smash 4 before Crash. I think his prospects for smash 5 will be a lot better. K rool, Isaac, Shovel Knight, and (hopefully) Inkling will probably get in smash 4. The more characters that get in smash 4 the more desperate Nintendo will be to top that roster with smash 5. I think they will really be scraping the bottom of the barrel in smash 5 in terms of getting iconic characters. That's where I think Crash will come in. This is why it is so important to vote for him on the ballot. Many Crash fans who have little faith in him voted for someone else. Little do they know that if he gets enough votes to where it at least indicates to Nintendo that he's still relevant Nintendo might actually decide to do something with the series. And voila! Crash gets revived and possibly land a spot in smash 5.

I noticed the lack of support for Crash, unfortunately, too late.. but I think we can make enough noise for now. This might result in something interesting for the future; We can be a smaller group than some years ago, but we're still many. Let's do it!

EDIT: btw, here's our first video! .. Put the shame aside, I'm not worrying to appear ridiculous on front of a cam; Let's make our Crash Dance be famous!

I honestly love your enthusiasm. It sucks to be a Crash Bandicoot fan just for the fact that people like to break your spirits whenever you want him for Smash, treating him like if hes not even on par with the other mascots in Smash, and yet people want Shovel Knight in the game.

If Crash were put in the game, I could see his stage being from warped, or a multi-changing stage that goes from the warp room, to medieval times, to the stone age, to china, and to the future. Would make for a great melody for warped! :D

Try not to take it to heart. Smash, in terms of who gets in & who doesn't, is just a popularity contest. I don't take it seriously any more since it's all about what's popular at the moment. Actual video game history counts for little. It doesn't matter how iconic a certain character was at one point in time. If the series it belongs to is allowed to rot for over a decade, hoards of people will crap all over it despite many of them not having played any of the games from when the series was in it's prime. A lot them are just jumping on the hate bandwagon because it's the cool thing to do. But they shouldn't laugh since their most cherished mascot could be next. The Metal Gear series would be case in point. With Hideo Kojima leaving Konami and Metal Gear altogether, who knows what will become of the series. Snake could be where Crash is in a decade from now. Who knows. That's why I don't take the smash roster seriously anymore. At this point my only hope is that we don't get anymore cloned movesets.

Crash has 100% of my support. Since he is not property of Sony, there's nothing impeding him from appearing in Smash. Also, if he ever gets in, Dingodile's theme better play in his stage.

I'm very enthusiastic, yes.. but I'm also a little disappointed how people are treating Crash's position. How could it be? He's literally the only A-Rank mascot out there which is not in Smash yet. I mean, I love many of my other 3rd Party supported characters, but with impact in the videogame industry as Crash did, are few. Just as @ Kabutops Kabutops said, seems to be more a popularity contest than anything... which is a shame. But even with our chances not looking very good we can't give up!

Anyways; I liked the idea of a Warp Room stage! --I just put N. Sanity Island because it's where Crash actually lives.. but with a constant change of scenario, the Warp Room could take the fighters to the front of Crash's house as I put there. =P; ~Funny enough, when I was idealizing Crash's stage based on TwinSanity, I thought that would be cool a sudden change during the fight to the 10th Dimension version of the Island. =P.

-----but what about the emergency campaign, guys? You all will help, right?... spread the word, the mockups, the propositions! Record yourself doing the Crash Dance as I did; --I will bombard Activision and Nintendo on Twitter with that! We need to be noticed!

btw, I'm trying to contact Ex-Naughty Dog members involved to Crash series to get an extra boost on our campaign... but I'm not really sure how to approach and who would be more adequate; ~But at any case, I already sent a message to Charles Zembillas; he seems a kind of guy would be very helpful! =D

Didn't know there was a DLC Crash thread. Crash Bandicoot is my main favorite video game of all time. Played of his games when I was young many years ago. Loved it. In fact, years ago around the Brawl era. I made up a whole moveset what fits for Crash, taking and inspiring the movesets and ideas in most games. Yes, I know most of you hate the new games cause everything is different, but if kept the same. Things will get boring fast and you'll be selfish for nostalgia. All right, here's the whole idea that I planned it. Tell me what you think. If you have any questions, talk to me. The moves that I texted in blue are made-up moves that Crash doesn't do that in his games.

[Standard Attacks] "Titans/Mind Over Mutant Based"

Right Light Punch - Jab 1 (Right Punch.)

Left Light Punch - Jab 2 (Left Punch Combo.)

Norris Roundhouse - Jab 3 (Spins with a roundhouse kick.)

[Side Attacks] "Two moves are based in the other Crash games, but one is made-up. "

Headbutt - Side Tilt (Crash thrusts his head forward to smack a foe. Does that in Titans GBA version.)

Uppercut Spin - Up Tilt (Performs an uppercut with a spinning punch.)

Low Kick - Down Tilt (Crash does an sweep kick. Does that in Titans GBA version.)

[Smash Attacks] "Titans/Mind Over Mutant Based"

Rolling Kick - Side Smash (Does an frontflip with a heavy kick.)

Gyro Jackhammer - Up Smash (Crash stands on his hands and performs a strong breakdance kick with his legs spread out.)

Board Sweep - Down Smash (Crash brings Aku Aku and sweeps around the floor with the mask with a spin to knock anyone up in the air.)

[Running Attack] "Mostly based from Crash 2 to Twinsanity"

Slide - A (Slides from the ground.)

[Aerial Attacks] "Some based from Titans and Mind Over Mutant"

Aerial Spin - Neutral Aerial (Spins in the air, similar to Olimar's attack.)

Board Slam - Right Aerial (Crash uses Aku Aku to smack someone.)

Back Kick - Left Aerial (Self-Exploratory.)

Upward Twist Kick - Up Aerial (Crash turns his body upside-down and thrust his kicks up with a spin.)

Spin Thrust - Down Aerial (Crash spins like a drill and plummets to the ground. If someone gets hit by the drill spin, Crash will bounce upward and have a meteor effect.)

[Grabbing Attacks] "Some based from Crash Twinsanity"

Headbutt - A or Z (Self-Exploratory)

Twin Throw - Left Grab (Crash grabs a foe and throws forward into the air.)

Spin Throw - Right Grab (Crash grabs the foe and spins rapidly to throw into the air.) {Similar to Mario's and Wario's Left Throw, but throwing it forward.}

Handstand Kick - Up Grab (Crash does an handstand and kicks the foe up in the air.)

Twin Slam - Down Grab (Grabs the enemy and slams into the ground like a mallet.)

[Special Moves] "Based on most of the main Crash games"

Spin Attack/Death Tornado Spin - Neutral Special (Can be used for attacking, reflecting projectiles, and recovering back from stage. You can continue tapping for a longer effect, but if you spin too long, Crash will get dizzy.)

Wumpa Cannon - Side Special (Crash whips out his bazooka and blast Wumpa Fruit at enemies.)

Jetpack - Up Special (Crash pulls out a jetpack out of his pocket [Hammerspace] and launches himself upward at the air. Doesn't have very much horizontal traction for recovery.)

Super Belly Flop - Down Special (Crash hops into the air and belly flops. If he's already in the air, he simply plummets his body to the ground. Yellow shockwave is given out as he lands to repel foes.)

[Final Smash] "Mostly based from Crash 1 to Twinsanity while the other is on Titans/Mind Over Mutant"

Aku Aku - (Crash wears an sparkly Aku Aku on his face for 15 seconds. Making him faster, invincible, and deals more damage.)

or

Titan Jacking - (Crash summons a random Titan of their class and uses their power to take down foes.)
[Snipe] Titan Class: Shooting

Using this mutant allows Snipe to use his special attack "A Leap of Woo" which shoots purple razor feathers continiously at foes.

[Ratcicle] Titan Class: Strong

Using this mutant allows Ratcicle to use his special attack "Freeze Punks" which he snaps his arm down in the ground to create an ice wave in front of the enemies to freeze them soild.

[Scorporilla] Titan Class: Captain

Using this mutant allows Scorporilla to use her special attack "Ground and Pound" which she pounds her chest to build power and hardly pounds on the ground to create a shockwave that sends foes flying.

= Personal Appearance =

[Stage Entrance]

Crash 2 Warp
Aku Aku's Green Smoke Warp from Titans/Mind Over Mutant.

Note: The original version of this costume, Crash was given green hair. So I changed to red to fit the color theme better.

Crash Yellowy - Orange Fur, Yellow Pants, Yellow Hair, and Dark Brown Shoes. (Dark Brown Gloves and/or Yellow Markings)

Carbon Crash - White Fur, Green Pants, Black Hair, and Red Shoes. (Dark Brown Gloves and/or Black Magical Markings)

Thats great! Jason Rubin & Andy Gavin are the 2 main guys behind the development of the series. You could try contacting Gavin on his site: http://all-things-andy-gavin.com/video-games-archive/ (You may want to browse his articles on Crash & read his comments on them before contacting him so you can get a good idea of what his attitude is towards the series). You might be able to contact Rubin on twitter. Just tell them about Smash Bros being huge and how Crash's inclusion could revive the series. But be weary that they might not be enthusiastic about it. Understandably they've probably grown very pessimistic about the whole situation with Crash as many of us fans have as well. And they may not be too keen about Crash falling into the hands of Nintendo. I think they are still very much pro-Sony. But it's definitely worth a shot. Crash's situation can't possibly get any worse, can it?

Also I wouldn't mention anything regarding the post-Naughty Dog Crash games to them. They hate HATE them!

Thats great! Jason Rubin & Andy Gavin are the 2 main guys behind the development of the series. You could try contacting Gavin on his site: http://all-things-andy-gavin.com/video-games-archive/ (You may want to browse his articles on Crash & read his comments on them before contacting him so you can get a good idea of what his attitude is towards the series). and that's why I got a bit ashamed to contact some members of original ND saga. =P.. Crash's situation is a bit delicate when it comes of what the developers think about him. (although, excluding anything related to post Titans, I think they could get proud of Crash general reception in other consoles and continuity, IMO.) --The Twitter Campaign is already following Jason Rubin for a while now.. but I think I'll wait until he notices something.
I'm still waiting for Zembillas reply, and I contacted Crashy News too, .. let's see if they can help to spread the proposal of the viral video. (I'll go for Crash Mania too).

--for now, I'm drafting a moveset for Crash (avoiding most of CooT and MoM stuff, naturally.. :p), I think I'll be able to post at least his Specials later today. ~Keep the thread alive, people!

Also; seems that Crash is a relavant subject again!

(I'm sorry about this, lol)

The creators are pro-Sony? They should still feel honored if Crash made it to Smash </3

Agreed. Unless they hate Nintendo with a passion (i don't think they do), I can't see why they would object to him appearing in Smash. The naughty dogs can't do anything with crash anyways and smash would make him relevant again. I don't see how they'd prefer to just watch their creation slowly wither away.

Relevant, or Crash's burial grounds. Just like Mega Man

Chicken throw over Fruit Bazooka?
Yeah, I thought that would be an interesting choice, and more original too (since everyone suggests the Bazooka, it's already sounding repetitive XD).. The thing with chickens that it would turn in a Hazard/Obstacle temporarily in the stage if it doesn't hit in the first try. =P (also, I thought that would be a nice throwback of this gag present in at least 3 games).

EDIT: regarding the Fruit Bazooka, always saw it more as a Final Smash material along with Aku Aku Invincibility :chuckle:

Definitely think Aku Aku Invisibility should be the Final Smash. People bring up the bazooka since it's such an obvious choice for a move. How about Fruit Bazooka as the down special and Super Belly Flop as the down air?

Why no one is using the moves from Titans/Mind Over Mutant? Those moves fit well for Crash to be in a fighting game. If it's for nostalgic reasons, would that make you feel selfish?

I'm trying to avoid similarities with other characters movesets, but as an option, I thought that the normal Belly Flop would be a Neutral Air and the Super version would remain as the Down Special. Hope to share the whole moveset soon. =)

those games doesn't count for many of us; they don't fit into the series flexibility nor expansion of concept; Also, pretty much they were the reason to Crash's limbo. Everyone has their tastes and preferences, of course.. and sure I can't talk by everybody, but I see a general consensus most of time.

--but now, talking more about specific reasons for (at least me) avoiding any relation at the time of creating a moveset:
  • to make it unique and faithful to the character's roots (like Sonic),
  • to make it cozy and familiar to all fans of the franchise, and meet the demand and expectations for a respectful return of the character (like Mega Man),

and at the end, seems that even Activision noticed what they did with CooT/MoM was not of the best ideas; since that in the latest Crash's appearance in 2010, they regressed his design (and many other characters) to his TwinSanity/CTTR look (As well the scenarios were done much more colorful and adequate to the series theme).

Titans and Mind Over Mutant* has nothing to do with Activision, it was Sierra who published these games. And second.. where did Activision regressed his 2010 design?

*Halfly since when Mind Over Mutant is in the middle of development, Activision bought Radical and that's why they have to use Acti's logo in the game boxes, but it's not shown in the opening logos when you start the game.

My gosh, everyone is blaming Activision for everything.

Not blaming the company (I didn't mean that Activision was the responsible for the CooT/MoM tragedy, I said they noticed that was not a good idea, but I guess that was too late), just the games in particular. :p

and here's Crash last appearance:

it's hybrid between TwinSanity and Tag Team Racing.. some characters use even more retro-ish designs.

The Spin is definitely Crash's neutral.

Super Belly flop is definitely a down air for me.

I'd switch his Wumpa Cannon for Down B and give his Side B somewhat of throwback to Crash Bash, where he picks up crates from his games the Aku Aku summons for him. It ranges from a normal crate, Crash's with 3 Wumpa Fruits (restore 3% health each), a TNT crate, and a Nitro Crate (explodes once Crash holds it, dealing damage to himself too) It would kind of work like Peach's turnips
