its either called snakedashing or DLX-hit cancel i'm not sure
but this is what it looks like
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TtxbcqWUQpE

Is there a reason i can't get this? i was trying to do it with dashing A then pressing up A but i got advice to do down c-stick immediately followed by up c-stick. So i try that and it actually works, but after 2 times i couldnt get it anymore! i tried it with falco again and with snake and i couldnt get it at all with c-stick, or the harder method

Come on man just use the search function... this technique is called gatling. A superior way to do this is dashing, c-stick down then up+z immediately after. That's called smash boosting. Instead of having to hit your dash attack to do the usmash, you can do it anywhere in your dash, and you can also charge your usma**** also gives you significant sliding momentum.

oh so u have to press Z when doing up c-stick? ok maybe that was what i was doing wrong.

wait is this what your talking about? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l7Q2gfVEf0k

because their just doing an extended u-smash, without the dash attack. what i'm taking about it what falco does at 1:05

No, to do gatling it's just c-stick down, then when your dash attack hits your opponent, immediately do c-stick up.

Smash boosting is a different technique that you can use in the same way and is more helpful in other situations. C-stick down to up+z. You can have the dash attack hit if you have the timing right, so in effect you can use it the exact same way with easier to use timing.

so what i'm talking about (the dash hit, then u-smash) is done by just dashing, c-stick down, c-stick up? see thats what i was practicing and after 2 times it would just not work anymore, i was thinking maybe its cause i wasnt pressing Z but apparently that would make me do something else

i tried doing that and it made me do a slide and then u-smash, thats not what i'm looking for and honestly it doesnt seem much more helpful than just dashing and doing an Up-smash

and i actually got the dash attack to a U-smash again but only 1 time, then it just wouldnt work again. like not half the time like the snake dash, i just cant get it at all. idk if i need to press z for it or what but it's really frustrating.

idk why people are saying to use the search function, i dont see how thats going to help.

Correct. Since you say you've done it a couple times, just not consistently, it's most likely a problem with your timing. Also remember that being able to cancel your dash attack>u-smash isn't universal so if you aren't playing as Snake or Falco (the only two I can think of off hand, and know for a fact can cancel in this way) the character you're playing as simply may not be able to do it.

I know it's not really the issue at hand but the "boost smashing" stuff actually does involve the dash attack. It's something that's been in other fighters and is generally known as "kara"(empty) canceling; the basic idea is to get the momentum from one attack (the dash attack in this case) but cancel it into another action before the hitbox for the move actually comes out. Another easy to see example is kara-throwing from SF3:3rd Strike.
The more you know...;)

well i use falco so i kno i can do it, i would think its the timing except u'd think i could at least get it occasionally that way and it would just come with time, but i just cant get it at all. i guess i'll have to work on it but idk what the problem is. i'm trying it right away, slightly after, and like 1 second after and none work

Every time someone says "DLX hit-cancel", a puppy dies. More specifically, I shoot one. The bodies filling the room are getting annoying to boot.
