At least i can still hope for a non-SNK/Alpha Denshi Guest Character.
Some of them i can think of are:

Connections with Neo Geo
  • Tesse (Waku Waku 7, Sunsoft)
  • Movie Billy and Jimmy (Double Dragon, Arc System Works)
  • Anyone from Windjammers (Paon DP)

Already crossed over with SNK
  • Skullomania (Fighting Ex Layer, Arika)
  • Mizoguchi (Fighter's History, G-Mode)

Crazy ideas of mine that will never happen
  • A Frankenstein's Monster-like being that's an amalgamation of various Street Fighter characters, with every moveset of every single SF character. I call it "Franken-Street Fighter" (Capcom/Original Character)
  • The Biker Mice from Mars [If SF6 can have the TMNT, why can't SNK use a rival franchise? Also, they are the actual characters and not costumes]

sorry for double posting, but what if Dragon Ball FighterZ returns for one last time, it will be with a guest character, right?

If KoF XV can be revived, why can't DBFZ?

I propose some other character from the Weekly Shone Jump (like Luffy, Naruto or Jotaro), or even something oddball (no pun intended) like Sol Badguy or some weird amalgamation of various Street Fighter characters with every moveset.

EVO Championship finals are coming up next month and it is certain that there will be big news for a number of fighting games, but here is what I predict will be shown:

Street Fighter 6 - With the reveals of the second season characters shown during the Summer Games Fest and M. Bison already released, I expect Capcom to show a small teaser of Terry Bogard's involvement within the World Tour mode.

Tekken 8 - Most likely reveal the release date for Lidia Sobieska and a new trailer for the third character DLC to be shown.

Mortal Kombat - Maybe a full reveal to their second season DLC characters?

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves - Likely another character reveal.

As for a bonus, I wonder if Sega is going to reveal a new Virtua Fighter game?

I rather see characters from the og Db (Tao or king piccolo) over naruto!

I'm a big fan of fighting games! Street Fighter has always been my go-to; there's something about the classic characters and mastering those special moves that keep me hooked. They're like the solitaire of video games for me—simple to get into but endlessly challenging. Lately, though, I've been diving into Mortal Kombat as well. The fatalities are wild! Have you tried any of the newer ones like Tekken or Soulcalibur? I'm curious to hear your thoughts or any recommendations you might have. Always looking to expand my fighting game repertoire!

Day 2
City of the Wolves revealed Kevin Rian
SVC Chaos is getting ported to Steam. Switch and PS4 to follow
No MK reveal as they're skipping EVO for Comic con instead. We did get a look at Samurai Jack and Beetlejucie in Multiversus
The Guilty Gear announcement leaked early. New season is Dizzy, Venom, new character Ulkria (who will first appear in the upcoming anime), and GG's first ever guest character. Lucy from Cyberpunk Edgerunners

Today's EVO finals (and presumably, the focus of the big announcements) are GranBlue Fantasy Versus, Guilty Gear Strive, Tekken 8, and Street Fighter 6.

I don't know enough about GranBlue or Guilty Gear to comment (I've played a bit of Guilty Gear, but I don't know much about the story, and Xrd and Strive don't seem like good jumping-on points in that regard), though Guilty Gear's already been leaked, as darkvortex mentioned.

I haven't been following Tekken 8 too closely, but by my understanding, it's still early on in its DLC, so I'm guessing it would just be a new or returning character as opposed to a fighting game announcement. (I'd love to see an anime fighting game in the style of Dragon Ball FighterZ, though!)

As for Street Fighter, my guess is that it'll be a Terry Bogard gameplay trailer, since he's due to be the next character to be released. (though I REALLY hope we get a Marvel vs. Capcom 4 or Darkstalkers 4 announcement, even if I'll admit that they don't seem likely) Not sure if we'd get a new game announcement from Capcom, though I doubt it.

Nah, Capcom will instead announce the Xbox version of the MvC collection. :4pacman:

Too early for anything new from Capcom. We'll get Terry and maybe some new crossover event like TMNT from last year.

Tekken has seemingly had its pass leaked so we have a good idea of who it will be, they could all ways throw a spanner in the works with a guest. Harada has been talking about Mortal Kombat a lot lately

We could get a tease at what's next for Arc System Works. No idea what that would be. Perhaps a Fighterz sequel

I predict from a Capcom side of things in which I do anticipate that they will possibly show a small teaser of Terry Bogard in the World Tour, maybe a release date for the Marvel Vs Capcom: Fighting Collection Arcade and maybe some surprises?

EVO just had its Tekken 8 DLC reveal trailer. I'll edit in the video when I get the chance, but suffice to say, Heihachi Mishima is NOT dead.

The reactions from the crowd were great.

EDIT:

Terry Bogard trailer for Street Fighter 6:

That seems to be all we're getting before the top six starts - maybe we'll get an announcement after (or right before) grand finals, but I'm not going to stay up to wait for it. (and historically speaking, I don't think we've gotten too many announcements after the very last game)

Pao Pao Cafe? I guess this might mean that Terry/Mai are getting their own stages? Either way there are a lot of Fatal Fury 1 references in this trailer.

It's a slight bummer though that it's not actual gameplay footage. This seems to more or less confirms that Fatal Fury costumes are coming given the Blue Mary and Joe Higashi outfits.

Morning, everybody! I just had the weirdest dream last night that Heihachi was coming back in Tekken 8 as DLC. I think my brain was pulling a prank on me last night.

Anyway, who’s the DLC character that was revealed last night? I haven’t seen anybody talking about it for some reason.

I guess we gotta accept that the big fighting game franchises will never permanently kill their villains.

They're just as tired and obsessed with the status quo as any other video game franchise ig.

Ah fighting games, a genre I would like to play more of but at the same time I feel as though I'm not very welcome to. there's always some that catch my attention but I never know if it's gonna be one I can handle until it's too late. still at least I've had plenty of fun with platform fighters and soul calibur. I did alright with street fighter 4 on the 3ds and I got the hang of tatsunoko vs capcom.

I really wish traditional fighters would combine the input simplicity of current traditional fighters with the fewer number of mechanics in classic traditional fighters.

The more I look at traditional fighters, it looks like that unnecessarily complex command inputs are a thing of the past (and still a problem for those who want to get into those) while an unnecessarily large amount of mechanics are a thing of the now.

I personally disagree with there being too many mechanics because in most modern fighting games (SF6 for example) the more complex mechanics like parry and whatever the focus attack is now called aren’t that complicated to use for newcomers, aren’t necessary to master for casual fans, and add a lot more depth to competitive play.

And by “input simplicity” do you mean command inputs being less complex or something like SF6’s modern control option?

IDK, there's just something about not using all those mechanics that makes me feel like I'm missing out. I know they're simple to activate, but these "complex" (I personally call them mechanically bloated) fighters are so intrinsically designed around these mechanics that not using them is hard to ignore.

And I'm not exclusive with modern traditional fighters about this issue either; I find it to be a problem with RPGs as well.

And if anyone's gonna say something that boils down to "git gud"...

I want to git gud for sure, but if gitting gud entails being dumped upon with so many core gameplay elements instead of learning a few versatile mechanics, no thanks.

Both. Even with command inputs nowadays, I'm seeing a lot of traditional fighters trend to exclusively use QC and DP motions. At least the more "mainstream" ones.

idk, I'd say you might have to elaborate on what exactly you have in mind.

Where exactly you stand seems a bit hard to place. At least from what I'm reading it sounds like you'd just prefer and to go back to something like SF2 , which is fine, different strokes and all, but I wouldn't really call modern fighters overly complex either. People constantly complain about games like Guilty Gear Strive and SF6 being dumbed down, so I'm not entirely sure where you're coming from tbh.

I'm personally a bit in the middle. I think a good chunk of modern fighters are the genre at its most accessible, but despite the (touted/perceived) higher skill floor, I do still prefer the overall gameplay of say GGXrd or Accent Core compared to Strive. I can get just not really liking with certain mechanics though. I'm not a fan of the wall breaks in Strive for example, but I quite like the Drive system in SF6.

Don't get me wrong, I love the combo leniency of modern fighters. It really seems that this "dumbing down" is really just overreaction to more leniency on move linking (like seriously, I don't see ANYONE say it's a Smash Ultimate situation where the overly lenient buffer system is prone to input errors).

There's a reason why I'm very specific about what "complex" I'm talking about, and that's why I'm calling modern fighters "mechanically bloated", because they just have way too many mechanics. I really just want to punch, block, and throw out specials and supers. But now modern traditional fighters insist on so much extra crap on top like advancing guards, parries, X-factor/Sparking, making moves that arbitrarily cancel/kara into a few moves but not others fsr, comeback mechanics/tactical offense, an "extra" super meter like the Revenge Gauge/V Gauge, Roman Canceling, Bursting...

Does the genre NEED all this? It really feels like this arms race to have all these weird mechanics on top of normals, specials, blocking, and supers has led to widespread bloat in traditional fighters.

I guess I kind of get the gist of what you're saying, but if that's the case then there hasn't really been any fighters up your alley since the SF Alpha days if that's really the case. And even then, Alpha 3 had the whole -ISM system. It really does sound like SF2/Alpha 2 (and mechanically similar/adjacent titles) are what you're looking for in a fighter.

I haven't watched the Direct yet, but we got a release date for the Marvel vs. Capcom collection (September 12th digitally, November 22nd physically), along with a trailer for a new Capcom fighting collection that's due out next year.

Although Virtua Fighter was not on the current list of games SEGA are looking to revive, but there is a recent trademark applied by SEGA of Japan that include the Eternal Champions.

For those who do not know. Eternal Champions was a fighting game that was produced by SEGA and released during the early 90s. Although it does contain elements that are pretty similar to Mortal Kombat such as Vendettas (acts like the fatalities.) But it does have a rather unique story that revolves around the Eternal Champion recruit souls throughout history who met an unfortunate and untimely death and would had served great purpose for mankind in to a tournament. The victor will have the ability to change the recurring events of their fate and regain their life.

The Eternal Champions did had a sequel released for the SEGA CD in 1995 called "Challenge from the Darkside" that sees new challengers entering the fray.

There was an a third game in the works for the Sega Saturn, but it was cancelled due to the fact that SEGA of Japan feared that the existence of the Eternal Champions could hamper Virtua Fighter's success. This was covered by Matt McMuscle's Youtube video.

Although it is hard to say where exactly this will go, but it is rather interesting to see that a long forgotten fighting game had been trademarked. Since SEGA did say that they are looking to reboot a number of their franchises, who knows?
Going back to the Eternal Champions, SEGA announced that a film adaptation of the game is in the works with Skydance Studios. Derek Connolly (who is known for writing Jurassic World) is set to pen the story for the film.

In the past, the late Michael Latham (who was producer for the two ET games) did make an attempt to revitalise the Eternal Champions under a new name called "Eternal Successors" as its spiritual successor, however the project never came to fruition in the end.

Seeing that SEGA is rebooting some of its games, I wonder if Capcom, Bandai Namco and perhaps Nintendo should take notes on this and see which games deserved to be revitalised?
Although the spiritual successor of Eternal Successors did not come to fruition, it had been renamed as "Aeternal Champions" in which you can view some of their concept art for the characters here and on their Facebook page.

Feels kind of crazy to think that the Marvel vs. Capcom collection is coming out tomorrow! I've already got it pre-ordered on Switch; I've only played Marvel vs. Capcom 2 out of the games in this series, so I'm looking forward to seeing how the series developed. (I wanted to get the Marvel vs. Capcom Origins collection before, but it was only available for a little over two years before being de-listed)

I'm likely going to start with the Punisher and X-Men: Children of the Atom and work my way up to MvC2. I'm glad that Capcom is trying to preserve/re-release their arcade games, even if some seem extremely unlikely. (as much as I'd love to play them, I have my doubts that Alien vs. Predator or JoJo's Bizarre Adventure will get Switch releases any time soon)

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves News:

A special collaboration with Portuguese soccer player/footballer Cristiano Ronaldo (seemingly hinting that he will be a guest character.)

In addition:

After Terry and Mai both crossed over as guest characters for Street Fighter 6, Capcom is returning the favour as both Ken and Chun-Li will be made as guest characters for Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves.

So apparently there was a new Darkstalkers entry in the works 11 years ago, hinted by current Street Fighter 6 director Takayuki Nakayama in which who supposedly was once part of a team working on the project before it was seemingly cancelled in which Nakayama eventually moved on to another project.

To add further detail in a translated Q&A segment of the Capcom Secret Files for Street Fighter V, Nakayama also hinted regarding to F.A.N.G's character design:

"Master F.A.N.G's concept was actually a dropped design from a new ◯a◯◯◯◯ game as a character called ◯su◯◯, but this is a secret of secrets,"

This seemingly hints at a possible new Darkstalkers (or Vampire as called in Japan) was in the works at the time before it was shelved.

Will say that during the years between 2012 and 2013, Capcom especially their fighting game departments had very rough years especially with Darkstalkers Resurrection (which was supposed to act as a gauge for a new sequel) and the reception of Street Fighter X Tekken.

Interestingly, in response to the Eventhubs article, Nakayama stated that "That's a bit of a different story. Maybe someday I'll be able to talk about it."
