I just want to reiterate some things for those who don't want to look back.

Items are optional for some tournaments (wasn't specified in the offical rules). One of the tournaments in my town is not using items. Guess which one I'm going to =P.

Also, I believe that most, if not all Gamestop stores will use Wiimote + Nunchuck for their controller setup.

Also, the prize I believe is a tropy resembling a wrestler. It looks really bad, but it can serve as a memoir when you're really old. Heh, I'm starting to like the monstrosity of a trophy. lol.

Anyways, good luck to everyone!

And yes, you DO need a parent present to sign you up if you're under 18.

Age limit is 13 on up.

I'm assuming if you're 18 and up, you must bring a Driver's License (or some photo ID that shows you're birthdate) unless you are obviously in your 30s-40s...

God ****it. I just found out that my Gamestop released their sign-up sheet 3 days earlier than planned for some reason, making me ineligible (I would arrive there by plane at 6:00 PM and could be at the place by 9:00PM as originally scheduled, but they decided to release the slots ahead of time) since all the spots were gone in like a day.

I'm feeling pretty robbed at the moment, especially since I thought I had a decent chance of winning from having played since the original release date rather gratuitously :/

Well you can always try a different gamestop, Yeah thats what i was afraid of when i made this thread . . . that some one would take all the rules I put up as facts for all gamestops. Yeah man I feel for you. :(

Um, the Wiimote + Nunchuk has a jump button, you know. The C button on the Nunchuk. Its not like they're forcing you to use the Wiimote alone - thats the only configuration where the default settings only include a tap jump.

He's not saying that, he means he pushes up on the analog stick to jump, and you can't in this confuguration.

That's not it. I spoke to the store employees and even manager at one point, and they said it themselves that sign-up would specifically be opened up at 9:00PM, 30 minutes before the tournament began. All of a sudden the tournament starts now at 10:00PM and the sign-up sheets have been open for 3 days.

The Gamestop my friend was going to attend also shut him down, saying that he was required to pre-order a copy of brawl from that particular store to even be eligible in the first place.

Either way, being that in both the gamestops I've just mentioned that you CAN use your own controller, I think it would have been a good idea to put in large letters somewhere that your OP wasn't laid out in steel for all gamestops... but it's pretty much too late at this point. Most of the more dedicated people would have contacted their stores themselves (as I have), and I'm pretty sure if their store hadn't given them the wrong information or knew what they were doing, that the people would have gotten in without problems.

That makes even less sense - all controller configurations have the tap jump option. Unless you deliberately turn it off, its available no matter what controller you use.

If the store took signatures before today, then call the 1800 number on the GameStop website and complain about the store. The rules listed on www.gamestop.com/smash say they are supposed to start signups TODAY. Read it.

I just called my GameStop and they said we're gonna be using, the Wii Remote + Nunchuk configuration:

...Huh? What’s that thing that says "Shake Smash" under Nunchuk?
With this function, you just shake the Wii Remote to do a Smash Attack in the direction you shook it. It’s a little bonus we added.

Also, if you turn Tap Jump off, you can cut the jump function out of the up direction on the Control Stick. This means it’s easier to do an up attack without jumping into the air. Use whichever way you prefer.

Well I called my gamestop, and the parent thing isn't a problem, I just gotta sign up before hand.

So to you others worried, just call up gamestop and check before going over there

Hmm, whats this sign up I hear about? I thought I already signed up last Sunday, or was that just a preliminary thing?

Edit: Crap, I gotta find out about this Nunchuck nonsense, my friend and I practiced with the gamecube controller last night..

Wait, are you guys saying that we'll be able to customize the controls? Because I would think that would take WAY too long. If they don't let us customize, does anyone know the "default" settings for tap jump and shake smash (on/off)?

No worries, it's a lot like the cube controller, but split in half :)

Yeah, what character would be best for someone who's a veteran of Melee but brand-new to Brawl?
Just use the character you mained in Melee.

Is Ike the safest character to use? I don't want to use anybody that I could possibly screw something up with and get an SD cause I'm not used to the controller. Who has an easy recovery and a decent ability to fight if your used to maining falco?
I'm using Mario. Falco was my first main and then I mained Mario. I'm not so good with Falco any more.

I'm not sure who you should use. Maybe Fox, since he is pretty much the same as Falco was in Melee.

I was good with Mario in 64 but I sucked with him and fox in melee. I was really good with falco but I couldn't do anything with fox. Is fox the same as he was in melee?

If you have any skill at all with using marth or link, or anyone with a sword for that matter in melee or in 64 you should use IKE! It has been said many times in this thread and IKE seems to be the best character for this tournament hands down. You basically want to pick a character that has the best chance of getting kills because it is a tournament mode style tournament. How are you with DK in melee? try him . . . Anyone that is strong, and that you can kinda play with in melee will be a good character. Hope that helps

Good luck at the tourney

Hey guys i just got back from my tournament (it was at 1 pm).

We had to choose a RANDOM character and we were stuck with that character the entire tournament. All other rules were the same.

Just hope you get lucky and get a character you know. I got DK and won :).

On a side note.... Matador wins Gamestop tourney in Bowie!
For those planning on using Mario, he pretty much feels the same way as melee. There are probably much better picks for a 1 min match, but if you're comfortable with Mario, go for it.

Edit: Random chars? They let us choose ours. Items were on and sudden deaths.

Wiimote and nunchuk was pretty tricky to get used to (i had never used em). Sudden Death was on too, no restarts. I had some tough matches but by the final i figured out the controls and won by a lot lol. One cool thing about my tournament was the gamestop guy changed it to 2 minutes.

So is that abomination of a trophy the real trophy?

I hope I don't have to random select...

Fox is my main in Melee, I'm really quite good with him. But I've been practicing a ton with Donkey Kong looking forward to his buffs in Brawl...

Who's the best choice do y'all think? I have no idea what Fox's nerfs are in Brawl, other than lack of waveshine but I never shine anyways...
