GameStop Tourny Questions and Disscusion

Ok, so today i signed up at our gamestop, the guy said there were 3 pages they had not full but 1 page was full. So on to the questions

1. What character should I use in the tourny
2. How would that character help

3. If I use Oli what are some strats
4. Anything I should watch out for?

and basically all the ppl were like 16 years old and 1 25 year old I think i could beat them.

GoldenIke, i'm in the same tournament and i can't decide who to use either. But since it's the first round and we know nothing about the characters but from videos, I'm just going to use a veteran character that i know how to use.

You could be taking a chance using some other character. Remember the first rounds are 1 minute eliminations!

Well, I sighned up for it today so my spot is secured! But just to be safe you may want to sign up early.

And I want to use a new character to but it'll be to risky with 1 minute matches. maybe i'll watch some other people the day of the tournament and see how they do with new characters.

I am also on the tournament. From what I heard on Youtube, Meta knight is probably the best choice.

I wouldn't consider it cheating, since nothing in the rules say that someone who's already played can't participate... more of an advantage...

I sucked at Olimar, so I can't help you there...

Who did you main in Melee? Marth is still pretty good, Link is still usable, Zelda got buffed, Shiek got nerfed but is usable until you're trying to kill, Samus is still good, :/...

Don't get gimped, because that would suck... also, note that in FD, some Up B attacks do not slide up the side (I.E. Marth's Dolphin Slash)... attempting to do this below the level will result in you dying...

GoldenIke, while Olimar is a really good character....

unless your playing like a very little kid or something, he's not really a good character to use if you've never played Brawl. Not only is it an adjustment the first time you play from Melee to Brawl's physics, but its hard to tell what exactly your doing with Olimar until you learn his attacks (like 1 or 2 rounds).

Given the fact that the GS tournament is 1 minute stock matches (who knows, they'll probably have items on too), Olimar isn't going to be the safest choice if you plan on advancing.

I'm not saying he's bad, he's an excellent character. I plan on playing Oli actually, but I've played Brawl before. Just pointing out that the first round of Olimar I basically had no clue what I was doing - given the short rounds and stupid ruleset for these GS tournaments, it may be hard to get a feel for using him effectively.

he isnt unlockable at the start. I'll just give you the same advice. use a character your familiar with like a veteran fighter. if you get through first rounds you got two weeks+ to get better with whoever you want.

Dedede is hard to pick up and get used to and isn't really like anyone in Melee. If you liked Marth/Roy in Melee go with Ike, if you liked Ness go with Lucas. There are some other viable options but given the rules these guys are probably your best bet.

If you really want some Olimar strats I'd just go check out the Character discussion on him and study some videos.

You've only got 1 minute to get a ko and it takes alot longer to get a ko in Brawl than in Melee, especially if its your first time playing. So heavy hitters are going to be the way to go.

That is really helpful, seems to me going Ike with the 1st round (may record to host on youtube :\) and if i make it to the 2nd round I could train on Olimar with the online battles and sse and fighting lvl 9 bots.

Well i 2 already played brawl but it was like for 30 mins total lol. So I might have a slight advantage cause i wont be in that "OMG FREAKIN BRAWL" state. i'm probably gonna use fox, since i am good with him in melee

He certainly is but he's probably one of the most difficult to pick up and play well with.

while new chars. like olimar may seem good its just the fact of trying to learn and utilize him if its your first time playing it especially in a tourny whereas peach who seemingly has been said to have been nerfed may still be a better idea to use if your very/soewhat familiar with her at least =0

You might as well use whatever rules they've established. Even if your local store doesn't, guess what, THE OTHER ROUNDS WILL FORCE YOU TO DO IT THEIR WAY ANYWAYS. Might as well get used to the crappy rules now. :/

wrong for my gamestop says wiimote....wiimote and numchuck....and the classic...but not the gamecube...i got mad...but ill use the classic.

wich is wierd cause my gamestop tournament runner actualy looked it up in the book and added the classic coontroller...but no gamecube

lol that stinks! Maybe you should have talk to someone else cuz that is odd for melee...hmmm I guess they were not able to obtain a smash brawl copy for the tourny...but isn't it a nintendo event?
