so my roommate and i were just playing on FD. both as wolf with items OFF, and we were just goofing off and i killed him and myself with the up+b off the edge, and when i came back i had my final smash!! is there something i don't know about? time was set to infinite and there were NO items. i checked after the match too.

i up+b'd him into the bottom left corner of FD where you sometimes get stuck if you try to up+b too close, and when i came back, i was on fire like i had a smash ball. i then pressed b and sure enough i turned into the tank.

is there a hidden smash ball on FD or something? can you gain a final smash with certain combos?

you might think that items were on, but we had been playing for about 15 minutes, and THEN this happened. there were no items i swear.

it must apply to no items matches because it just happened.

couldn't that mess up tournament play REALLY badly?

Try turning the Smash Ball off individually and see if it still happens.

Also, check how badly you're losing when it happens (how many stocks behind or points behind are you?)

I mean, if this is true, I don't know what further evidence is needed for people to realize this is a casual party game. As I've stated in my impressions thread weeks ago, the philosophy governing the development of this game is obvious.

Even in light of this, I know that won't stop people from going to tournaments for this game, as the Smash community has no other alternative when it comes to a fighting game of this nature. They'll try and make ends meet regardless.

I guess the true catalyzing factor is frequency (if this is indeed true).

We've known about this since the Japanese release. Honestly, if you're doing bad enough to get a pity smash in a tourney, it's not going to be enough to help you much at all. :|

Honestly, if you're all "lulz Brawl is casual," why are you in the advanced techniques thread?

Dedede can sometimes throw those item capsules or whatever with the final smash balls in them. It kinda sucks, even happens when all items are turned off. If the items are turned off individually, though, it might be different; haven't tried it yet.

I don't think that it can happen in tournament legal matches. I've already played like 200 matches and have 4 stocked people plenty of times and no one has ever gotten a pity final smash. I think you probably have to be in last place by like 10 points or something.

I just checked it out on my copy. You can rectify the problem by turning off smash balls individually. Even with them on, it took me killing the other guy about 8 times before he finally got a pity smash. When i turned them off I killed him 25 times and he never got a pity smash.

u're right, that's is the solution! I was wondering that some time ago and I did what u say and that was the solution... and btw DDD using SideB can throw capsules, boxes with FSBalls inside althought U turned off all the items.. (I guess =P)

IF you're losing bad enough to get a Pity smash, in a tournament environment 9 times out of ten you've already lost.

And we knew about this BEFORE the Japanese release. It was on one of the very early Dojo updates about final smashes.

Once again, I believe you may be able to prevent DDD from throwing items if you turn the items he can throw off individually. At least try it guys.

Yeah you have to turn smash balls themselves off.

What happens is whenever the point difference gets to an average of 13.5, like say P1 kills P2 6.7 times, P2 spawns with a final smash that can't be knocked out of him. There was randomization, but it usually took from 5-9 KOs to get a pity FS. Even if P2 killed himself before using his FS, he'd have to accumulate another 13 point disadvantage to get another one. And obviously, if P2 kills P1 the point difference goes down. Also, Self-destructs don't count towards the point total. :bee:

for the case with dee dee dee, if u have all items on but with the frequency of items off, then he can throw boxes and capsules while doing side b, but if u turn off all items, then he can't throw them at all.

as for the pity FS (if you decide to call it). a majority of the time when i tested with 10 stocks, it only occured once, although it didn't occur when trying to do suicides, but it definitely does involve with having a major stock disadvantage (aka, beating the crap out of your opponent), chances are it's because of the FS being on in the item menu, but with the frequency being off.

i was wondering what that was about but yea, it happened to my brother, i thought he turned items on while i was gone but i guess it was just the pity smash at work, and no it doesnt happen often enough to ruin tournament play, and one final smash wont guarantee the game, it doesnt even guarantee a kill sometimes

IMO, Snake was all hype, he doesn't seem that great to me. Also, my main problem with Olimar is that he depends too much on the Pikmin, all his specials(minus the Standard B) and his smashes all rely on Pikmin. I like Ike in the mid/ maybe high because although he is slow, he isn't overly slow and his smashes are tops in powerful, I have seen mid 20s uncharged. Also, I like his specials.

stick to the right thread moron.

btw, ike is trash, as with snake. ike is slow, with bad aerials, and predictable recovery. if he makes it into high tier, then the tier list is officially a joke.
