Im just bluntantly confused on how people become somewhat good at smash. Like today I fought this player and he was reading my moves as if I was facing a level 100 Cpu..like how to people realize ones patterns within a couple of minutes? Or is there certain effective things to do for every situation for each character?

Just some advice on things to not do that I see the worse For Glory players do(not saying you're bad but this is a good checklist imo):
Don't run at them and dodge roll back becomes super predictable
Remember to mix up your moves as to not stale them
Mix up how you tech/get off the ledge
Don't counter a lot if you are using a character with a counter

Hope this helps
