Sorry if this seems a wee bit irrelevant, but I'm here to say that I'm going to the OMG (Oregon Mega Games), which is prolly the biggest tourney I've attended. It incorporates many of the Western/Pacific region players, and hopefully, I'll be able to use the experience I gain to boost the "playstyle" thread. Any suggestions of which char would be most helpful to start on? (I've already done Snake, so lets find some other ones).

On another side note, who else here is going? Hope to meet you there.

Is this the one on July 19th?

I wanted to go to that one, but then decided I'll probably end up going to Axis and meet up with a friend in norcal. Good luck though. Like everyone on pacific west plays Snake, MK, ROB, and DDD. <.<

Good news is that Snake I think is beginning to feel watered down. People consider him good, but they still think Meta is semi-broken (even without the cape)

Like a month or two ago everyone believed that to be the opposite, lol. Snake's a cool character, I'm not going to lie. He just has too many obvious flaws that I don't think he's going to hold onto top tier for much longer, and if he does, it's only because he can **** MK.

Please don't use words like "predictable" when you talk about certain characters. You make it sound like all Snake players are noobs.

Marth's air game is predictable(Fair lololol) but thinking that a Marth will always Fair you is kinda foolish.

You wont always be able to see Snake's Bair coming >_>

nah, but still their ground game is much better * looks at snake's ftilt and utilt* and ull probably see more nairs than bairs in the snake air game.

If Snake is approaching you, and facing backwards..he's probably going to bair. Lol.

Marth at least has the option of doing basically everything in his arsenal while maintaining a window for fair. Snake can't do anything when he's facing behind you except...bair lol.

If Snake is aproaching you while facing backwards the player is probably really bad... just sayin'

Its not like Marth can Fair you while he is facing backwards either :/

w/e you guys are right anyways. I still think it is a pretty stupid way of saying 'bad'.

Marth can do a whole arsenal of moves while he's facing you. Snake can only do bair if he's facing you backwards, and it's not like fair or nair are viable approach/defense options xD

His air game is used for punishing. Not approaching or defending. If that makes any sense.

Good luck on your tournament, phi1. Do us proud, brotha.

On a side-note, I 100% agree with Timbers. The obvious flaws with Snake is beginning to show, and people are figuring out the characters to use against him. Unfortunately (for me), Donkey Kong and ROB absolutely destroy Snake, so if I don't pick up a secondary character fast, I'm going to get rocked by the same 2 characters over and over. Sad but true.

Also, don't underestimate the power of Snake's F-Air and Nair. I've gotten countless kills with Nair.

Fair is predictable because of the 30 minute startup lag on it, and nair won't hit most grounded characters. And assuming you have to use the nair as soon as you start your fulljump to get all four hits in, it makes it deathly obvious and probably a terrible option unless they're ledgejumping/hopping or are on a platform above you =P

Also smaller characters can SDI out of it so easily lol.

Yeah, but

1, when people are trying to chase you off the edge, pull off a F-air and they land right in your spike. Boom, dead. :chuckle: I've had this happen to me just today actually, VS. an MK on the AiB ladder.

2, sometimes people get caught in my Nair because they air-dodge too soon, and they get punted by the last kick and K.O.'d...This is rare, but it has its uses. Obviously it's not going to be short-hopped a lot of the time, but yeah.

Honestly, Snake's air-game isn't as bad as people make it out to be. It's his recovery people should be targeting.

I've never been fair spiked yet, but I've spiked a lot of Snakes (with ROB) that have tried it on me =)

Snake's aerial DI is bad. If he's approaching you, and you're going closer to him, you'd be able to airdodge through him completely and get behind him..unless you're like Luigi or DDD or something lol (bad horizontal DI)

But that's not why it's bad. It's bad because he literally can't use it to defend himself, or approach a grounded target. That hurts him a lot.

If he could autocancel his aerials then he'd be god tier.

And I love Snake's recovery. It's so easily rapeable.

Bad news guys. There's strong chance that because of where we are going prior, I might not be able to go after all. Oh well, I guess this has turned into a Snake advice/ what's next for the Playtyle thread thread.

You can auto cancel his Uair on a SH by doing it right after you leave the ground.
You can auto cancel his Nair aswell by by double jumping right after you leave the ground.

The are only useful when people are in the air though :/

I know I don't have much say in it, being a neophyte to these boards, but it might as well be Marth. I'm not very fond of him, but every character deserves attention at some point.

On the Snake aerial issue:

Nair and Dair can be DI'd out of fairly easily. D: Snake's two fastest aerials being Bair and Uar.

And yeah, all Snake's aerials have so much landing lag that he really can't afford to mix them up well while approaching in the air. At the most, Snake uses his aerials to slam people out of shields. (Dair for exampe makes a pretty decent OOS attack)

I know, I agree that Snake's aerials suck ***, but Nair and Fair definately have their uses. Also, Nair doesn't actually have any landing lag if pulled off correctly.
