Rolling backpacks are alright if you wear a trench coat and have a large enough frame to look intimidating. One of my friends was like that.

Don't go and do illegal substances now...
I lost most of my friends because I don't, but I made the right choice... I think...

Don't worry about what other people think of you. Seriously, I did this, ended up with no friends at one point because I couldn't figure out where I fit in. It will take time, but eventually you'll find who your friends are. Listen to Sots. :D

Most of my friends followed me there from junior high, but I still made plenty of new ones in freshman year.

Really cruddy advice, but, try finding an after school program that says "Hey, that's my kind of club! I might meet people that are like me!" I joined an after school club called Gamers Haven. I actually met female Brawlers (Like myself) there, but including me, there's only three. I still have fun there, though.

I hated High School. I never had a girlfriend so everyone thought I was gay. I was just quiet, and wasn't happy about not getting a girlfriend.

Everyone also though I was a psychopath...mostly just because I was quiet.
LOL that sucks. you live in a crappy school.

and high school is school. nothing special or fan flippen tastic about it. more people, i had nice people where i lived so no bullying. i went to school did my thing, then partied at home.

Just ignore them. If you give them a reaction, it just fuels them.

Also IMPORTANT: DON'T HAVE MASSIVE BACKPACKS. seriously. don't
And it's probably a given, but don't have a rolling backpack either.

I got the OPPOSITE problem and I was really quiet too 0_o

Girls were constantly bothering me, especially the ones other people considered 'pretty' because they didn't know anything about me, and I wasn't interested in them like everyone else probably. I was popularized because I was so quiet, even though that was exactly what I wanted to avoid :ohwell:

I didn't even think about getting a girlfriend back then because I was never really interested in anybody until I met my girlfriend lol....and even then I was just a friend with her for over 3 years before I got interested.

Some people thought I was a psychotic killer vampire as well, but that's okay. Psychos like us are what make the world interesting

Quiet people ftw!

General Guidelines: My school was 7-12 grade so this is what I did in 7th grade

Don't try really hard to be funny
Don't act perverted around girls
Don't carry massive amounts of books
Don't make fun of sports teams when their members are near you
Don't write inappropriate things down
Don't try to juggle your lunch (personal experience)
Do extracurricular activities
Don't say racial slurs
Don't smoke/drink near school or in the bathroom
Don't cry
Don't drop books in the hall
Don't throw basketballs at lights (personal experience)
Don't bring your lunch
Don't listen to pop music

There's a decent guide .

Weird....usually just ignoring what other people cared about worked for me. I had no interest in the stuff other people liked, so I just did what I wanted and that made me stand out LOL

Ugh, highschool is a joke. Tips: don't overdramatize EVERYTHING like the good majority of the people.
Of course, there might be problems like random people being ******* and stuff...
I got away with it because I pulled the "I don't care about you" card and ignored a good majority of people I wouldn't/didn't like - and because I'm tall and blare Slipknot whenever I can and give people dirty looks. That always helps.

Of course, as long as you socialize with people and find people you're cool with to hang out, it's a breeze. Just talk to people and it's all good.
People also hate the typical freshman.
The classic example of a freshman is a loudmouthed, immature, irresponsible whelp who has an inexplicable craving for attention and fulfills it by blurting out random obscenities. Don't.

Also Important: - don't dress up like naruto or Cloud or w/e. No matter how many people are doing it.

LOL

Yeah, don't wear anime stuff...it looks horribly lame and nerdy.

Also, don't answer too many questions in class or everyone will think you're a suck up. Answer some, of course, but don't raise your hand like a dozen times per class.

Just go and get out. That's simple.

If you've got friends that go there, or are good at making friends. Go for it. Being able to hang out with someone will take a lot of stress off. Just being alone sucks. Trust me. I've had it both ways, and having someone to hang out with will amazingly improve your overall mentality about school.

Other than that, do the work.
Homework will be important, but usually during the first year there isn't that much.
Junior year will be your worst year. I'm in it right now and just want to move to senior year so I can most likely do half days of school now.

Any other issues such as relationships or school events just remember it won't be all that important unless you find a GF who is amazingly trustworthy and you are good to her then any relationship you get between then and the end will most likely be gone before you know it.

As for school events.. not important unless you are in some kind of sport activity or club.

edit: Also, enjoy summer vacations early on. They are shorter and suckier as you go on.
I hate sounding negative like this.

You're lucky, I heard our proms suck. I've never been to one yet though, and don't plan on it.

I didn't go to ANY school events except for my senior prom haha

I was invited to winter formal a few times but I thought it was a hassle so I didn't go. I should have. Now I miss the events haha.

Lesson: GO to as many dances as you can, even if it's just with a bunch of friends. Prom was so fun...

Okay, in High School....The girls are very 'loose'. I use that term 'loosely' you see. See where Im going? Yeah. Homework....Well its not TOO bad, just make sure you have about an hour after school to do it all, depending on your classes. And....well....Try not to piss off any of the jocks, unless your a big guy. ;)

My advice seems to work well for both myself and others I've told this to.

"As long as you do your work first and manage your time correctly, high school will be cake, academically. "

I have a friend who was in a similar situation to you. He was home-schooled for 7th and 8th grade, but came back for high school. And he had it a bit tough at first. Most everyone comes into high school with groups of friends already set. But they don't last, and they aren't impenetrable. My suggestion is to accept that, in the beginning, you'll be on your own. You said you had a few friends, so that's good. Just join clubs and stuff you enjoy. My friend joined band, and although he didn't have the experience everyone else had from middle school, he practiced his butt off and was arguably the best by senior year. And while he was doing that, he was making friends in band. I was one of them.

Also, don't be afraid of trying something. I considered joining the Academic Bowl team my freshman year, but thought I'd be looked down on as nerdy. I was dragged there in my sophomore year by a friend, and proceeded to have some of the best times of the next three years with them. And there was very little mocking.

Practical advice:
Join Student Council; it looks good for college, and it lets you know what events are happening.
Don't try to stand out. People may talk to you, but they're probably making fun of you when you're not there.
Respect everyone at first. If they end up as jerks, then they're not worth it. But I had friends who were on the football team, and friends who wrote the poetry magazine. Everyone has potential to be a friend.
Don't be afraid to stand out. I carried a map of my school around for the first couple days. And I used it in the halls. Was I mocked? Probably. But I never got lost, and it's a funny story now.

Other than all that, it's been said already. Just be yourself.
