Simply put, to those who've played it, or seen more or less everything about Brawl(the full version), how is it? Without mentioning what's in the game, could you jsut say what it's like, if it's as good as everyone expected? Is it better or worse even?

The playable character roster did not live up to the expectations set to it, and most fans have voiced disappointment over it. Personally, I've long since decided I'm happy with it, with only three real lasting complaints, even though it didn't meet my previous expectations either.

I haven't actually played the game, but the above aside, everything looks fantastic. The soundtrack is amazing (and massive - Brawl has a little over 1 gig worth of space spent on music alone). The stages are almost all wonderful (though I've seen some fans say they were disappointed at the selection of past stages and the lack of a couple of hoped-for new ones), and I've already seen some stage-creator made ones I love as well. Subspace Emissary I've avoided spoilers for as much as possible, but the couple of scenes I did see looked just as great as what the Dojo showed before (and even much better, in a few cases). For competitive players, I've heard some are already hard at work coming up with new advanced techniques/abuses to use (haven't followed it specifically, since I'm a casual player myself, but I've perused a couple of threads about the subject). The combat videos I've seen look just as exciting as ever - slowed down a bit and with more airborne combat due to characters floating longer, but just as exciting nonetheless.

So yeah, roster aside (and I've learned to like that too), its pretty much as good as or better than expected for me. Your mileage may vary, of course.

Thanks for the opinion, I'll be ok with the roster I think. The only two other then the ones in the starting roster I wanted playable were Wolf and Ridley, so as long as i get one I'll be ok with it. Actually I think the biggsest draw for me after the SSE is the stages, so that's good that they seem to be all great. Thanks again.

Yea I think the problem was that everyone was having a hard time with the roster. I think were all adjusting to it nicely though.

Lip, Micaiah, and maybe even Geno would be great. I just hope one of them is playable.

Personally, the SSE turned out to be 10x longer and more detailed than I had expected and the implementation of the characters and their formed alliances is also awesome.

Most mportantly, the cutscenes are the most beautiful things I have ever seen from Nintendo.

I don't know how many are unlockable or not, but theres plenty - very nearly 300 different songs (or musical pieces, since many don't have lyrics, but still). Mario alone has 19 songs/musical pieces; Sonic has 12; Donkey Kong, 10; Metal Gear, 9; Fire Emblem, 11; and so on for the playable series, plus plenty of music from series without playable characters too. The soundtrack is one area in which the game not only does not disappoint, but exceeds expectations, no doubt about it.

That's good to hear, actually there is one more question. I've already seen from the Dojo that Lucas/Ness are like Mario/Luigi, not outright clones but with similar moves with different effects, but are there any outright clones still in the game, or have any clonish characters that stayed (Falco etc) been luigfied?

Also is Ganondorf still in any way a clone of Captain Falcon (I've no doubt both are in the game)?

To answer your music question, there are more than 300 songs in the game. Some are just victory music and old melee music but it's still very impressive. Do I need to add that most of the new songs kick ass?

About clones.. I don't think mario/luigi are clones really, their B moves and pretty much most moves are so different. Ganon is pretty much like Captain falcon, like in Melee.

The SSE was fun I guess, very nicely made cutscenes. But the 2 player mode was really flawed and I wonder if they even play tested it.

I think brawl is a good game but not as good as I expected it to be.

No Internet?!?
The roster was a big disappointment. Compared to what they could have made it, it was flawed in so many ways. I don't think they spent that much time on it compared to the rest of the game.

The SE is ok I guess, but the ending is pretty darn rubbish.

(Note: each of the spoiler texts in the coming paragraph contains a character not mentioned in the above post. I'd recommend those avoiding character spoilers just skip this part of the post entirely.)

Brawl has four "Luigified" clones:
Lucas, Falco, Wolf, and of course, Luigi himself
; plus two true clones (almost no difference from their originals other than basic physics):
Toon Link, and, sadly, Ganondorf again. Ganondorf being a clone is one of the things I'm most upset about, personally.

From what I've seen,
Wolf and Lucas
have very little resemblance to their counterparts other than special moves and final smashes, but
Falco
is still about half-cloned, and
Luigi
is almost unchanged from Melee save for physics differences (
for a quick example, his tornado move is now incredible for recovery, but his fireballs are very short-range
).

so is it more like ssb64 like theyve said?
I doubt it. That seems to be just Melee elitists upset with the lack of wavedash/l-cancel and the slightly slowed combat speed (the combination of which makes the game seem much slower to them). I'd have to actually play Brawl to be sure, but I did just play Smash 64 earlier today, and the videos of Brawl I've seen make it look much more like Melee than 64 to me.

...of course, personally, I wouldn't mind if it were more like 64 at all, since I believe it was just as fun as Melee, but thats just personal opinion there.

ive a few more questions actually....^_^
is board the platforms back??
can you fastfall at anytime during your jump like you could in 64?
whats the character limit for you taunt messages (is it 20 like we assumed)?
does pokemon trainer have a 'shiny alternate colour' where all him pokemon are in their shiny forms? or are their shiny forms divvied up amongst three different alt colours?
does abysswolf's famous deviantart background have the full roster on it? and did he make it wider to fit more characters (he better have)?
is wario ALONE truly special (as in is he the only one with an alternate costume)?
yea thats all i can think of right now....props to whoever can answer all of these

No.

He doesn't appear to have their shiny forms at all, actually. His alt colors just correspond to the normal team colors (red, blue, yellow, green).

It does. Don't know about if he made it wider, since I only saw it a couple of times before the finished product.

YellowJT said:

Yes. Everyone else is just color swaps, though some of those are like alternate costumes (i.e. Peach with Daisy, Mario with Fire Mario and Jumpman, Ike has one that looks like his father's outfit from PoR, etc - I don't know all of them).

Don't know these - someone who has actually played the game will likely be needed to answer them.
