How to convert to an offensive Olimar

I have noticed that my Olimar is slipping. I am seemingly getting worse and worse, but the truth is that my play style is too defensive. I was trying to play offensive but I often find myself missing aerials, and getting punished for it.

Does anyone have any tips on how to develop an offensive playstyle?

I may not be an exacting person for 'offensive' to 'defensive', but I do know about how to time the aeriels at a different rate. Try doing a dodge instead of your aeriel move and THEN do the air attack/ground attack.
Also, do the 0% combo of grab/dthrow/fair/grab/dthrow/fair/?.

Throw A LOT of Pikmins. Very hard for the opponent and super offensive. And it gives you the chance to sneak up on him!

Exactly what I was going to say. This is how you can get a majority of your damage on Olimar. Just latch a few and wait for the opportunity to strike.

Also, try what BlackWaltzX said with aPikmin latched. Gives some significant extra damage from the latched one.

EDIT: d-throw >> up-B also works. Just read the Olimar guide for some combo and techinique ideas. Watching a few videos of some higher level play wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Hmm, that's interesting that some of you are saying that throwing more pikmin would make you more offensive. My immediate response to this question would have been the opposite. A defensive player might be hopping in place and tossing more pikmin. If that's the case, always use pikmin toss as a precursor to your approach. It is good to for racking up damage, but it can also allow you to sit back and chill, the opposite of what it sounds like you want.

Otherwise, there are lots of instances where players relax after completing a combo or wait for opponents to recover. Keep the pressure on as much as you can all the time. And then if you want to get really offensive, start paying more attention to which characters you can edgehog, spike, or otherwise attack outside the bounds of the stage. A risky move for Olimar, but one that can catch people off guard if they're used to an Olimar petrified to leave the ground. Last note: definitely takes tons of practice to be able to pull off those attacks without killing yourself 90,50,25% of the time.

to mix it up. You can't only play defensive or they'll just sit there and kill the pikmin.

Well I have started working the Pikmin Toss into my approaches, so I assume I should also start working on my aerial timing.

Can anyone give me the youtube name of one of the top Olimar players so I can get some ideas?

Olimar is a defensive powerhouse, why would you want to play offensivly?
If you are playing against a character that you can't spam against, you're going to have to approach at some point. Also they don't expect you to approach. There are some characters you shouldn't approach much against, but others if you try to hold back too much they'll kill all your pikmin.

Latch a few pikmin and try to grab them. Even if you don't set up a nifty combo (although u-smashing after a d-throw works once or twice), the time from the grab allows your latched pikmin to get an extra hit or two in, which can help at least a little, especially if its a white pikmin.

Edit:

NC-Echo is pretty good, you might want to check out his Olimar.

I checked NC-Echo but I was hoping for another name or two of some offensive Olimars (preferably ones that are well known/good)

You can play only defensive against most characters , usually they just knock off pikmin, so their % will keep going up and up untill your ready to smash them. Even if they do kill the pikmin, they still do damage before they die (most of the time) patience is the key. Of course no one in their right mind would just sit there knocking off pikmin never approaching.

Now i suppose theres characters like falco/pit/fox, if he shields then he's wide open for attack/grabs.
Theres very few characters olimar has to approach, the ones he does, they are wide open to attack if he does need to approach.

In the jawn, with the jawn.
I personally think that playing an Offensive Olimar is just as easy as playing with a defensive charachter.

If your going to play an offensive Olimar your going to want to:

1.) LLAS - Latch Like A Skank.
This is probably the one move, that should have priority over something else you might try. For example most people go for the D Throw combo at 0%. It helps to latch first because this will not only rack up more damage to your combo it will either. One, make them run straight into your grab with the PIkmin still on them. Or it will make them do a move leaving them open for you to get the grab.

2)Short Hop Aerials.
This is just an overall thing Olimar should do all the time. Shorthopped NAirs work wonders on EVERYOne.
Short Hopped Fairs and Bairs are just Overall great. N UAirs are just awesome especially when you cancel them and pull another one off.

and finally,
Grab with your life.
IF you don't know that Olimar's grabs are the greatest thing since sliced bread(excluding ice cream)then your a sick person. But seriously alot of Oli's game revolves around his grab game. this can be used as a defensive tool like grabbing smacking and then throwing away from you. Or Grabbing Smacking and D throwing to try to pull of a combo, or you you can do this and try to short hop an NAir( I usually do that followed by a UAir at higher percents)

Tilt.
Ask Zori D Tilt is awesome andthe only difference between Nair and Utilt is situation and height.

Looking for a Offensive Oli look at Shrinks.
