I don't get it!

Okay here's a bit of info before I ask my question:

I've been playing Smash since the 64. We had one at summer camp when I was like 12 and there'd be close to 20 people huddled around it waiting their turn. I played that game just about every day till Melee came out, same thing with Melee until Brawl came out. And I still play Brawl pretty much every day. Play time can be anywhere from 5-10 minutes for a few matches or even a few hours of playing with friends. I mostly play DDD but I recently picked up DK and he's alot of fun to play.

I play DDD a little different than most people do I think. I don't ever use more than 1 down throw in a row, because chain grabbing doesn't take any skill in my opinion and there's better options to rack up damage. I also hardly ever use waddle dee toss and if I do it's only 1 or 2 per match just as an attempt to get a few extra points of damage.

I know the advanced techniques, I've been playing a long long time, I can literally play every character on the roster and sometimes I do. I consider myself to be extremely good. I definitely won't be able to beat M2K anytime soon, but out of the 8 people I play brawl with on a regular basis I'm by far the best (and they're very good too). I never like to brag, and I hate when others do it, but for the purpose of this question I really had to.

So assuming you read everything above: Why in the name of god do I get my *** handed to me by CPUs? Does anyone else have this problem or is it just me?

I mean... Mario. Mario destroys me. He negates pretty much everything I do with his cape, then just completely ***** me with fireballs, tilts, side smashes, etc. I usually play 2 life matches against CPUs and I lose against Mario about 9 out of 10 times. Zelda is another one. Zelda ***** my DDD and DK. There are some others like Fox and Falco, I'm having trouble thinking of others at the moment though. G&W is another.

I just don't get it, sometimes the CPUs are stupid and they lose the match by SD, but when they don't act stupid they just completely wipe the floor with me. Years of experience, advanced techniques, I can block and spotdodge perfectly in matches against players, yet I can't beat a level 9 cpu? I don't get it...

Playing CPU's makes you pick up a lot of bad habits. It's fairly easy to win, just camp, grab, throw, edgeguard. You might need more human practice.

Down throw more than once against CPU's, whatever it takes to win.

You fail sir.

Just kidding, well I'm just guessing but CPUs are different than Human opponents so maybe the style of the CPU changes everytime you play against one or CPUs are getting smarter.

I lose to cpus too, but it just means I'm better at fighting humans than them, and since it's what matters, I don't care.

Plus cpus can't john, and that sucks :(

Yeah I figured this was just it, I mean one of the easiest ways to fake out a human player is a quick dash cancel back and forth for a second, throws most people off long enough to get a nice hit in.

I figured CPUs were cheating bast*rds when I saw Zelda power block 6 of my attacks in a row... that's just ridiculous.

Computers are stupid and can't think. They are not hard to beat.

What you said about doing more than one downthrow in a row... thats just stupid. You play a character and are just ignoring his biggest strength. Its like me playing metaknight and only using one of his jumps because it takes no skill to get back to the stage just by jumping. And there are DEFINITELY no ways to rack up damage better.

If you really think you are so good then go to a tournament and see how you do.

Oh... and play 3 stock matches, thats just the norm, you should do it too.

Computers play differently than humans and are ridiculously good at shielding. They can't be faked out like a human can, but you can afford to telegraph your moves more, because CPUs won't pick up on it most of the time. You just need to change up your tactics a bit to fight CPUs.

@daisho
It's up to him whether or not he uses chaingrabs and what modes he plays on. Dedede is still pretty good without chaingrabs, and if he prefers two stock matches, then he can play two stock matches. I myself usually play 4-stock.

So what if he doesn't want to chain grab. It's just his playstlye.

You shouldn't play against CPU's because they're rather stupid and have god like reflexes when it comes to shielding. If you want to see how good you are you should go to a tournament to see how good you are.

I remember how my lvl 9 CPUs use to **** me. But like Spadefox said, they read your button inputs and I believe adjust to your play style. Now if you're like my cousin, he screws with their thought process by knocking over the ledge and getting close to them to force them to use a recovery too early to cause them to fall to their death (But when does do that he usually resumes the attack making the fake out moot).

I for one use fake outs, mostly shotgunning attacks (attacks that consist of more than one hits) since actual feint attacks don't work on AIs.

as straked already said : camp, shieldgrab them( especially mario : ()
and make a chaingrab with d3
really easy
trust me
but try to fight human players
fighting cpus don't improve your playstile^^

Lol, I have the opposite problem.

Too much practice against CPUs the first few months I had the game...
Now they're pretty easy for me, in fact I got to doing two level 9s at once (I'm not saying that two is easy for me).
However, beating CPUs is mostly about exploiting they're stupidity and their mindless aggression.

Now I find myself having trouble with human players on SWF.
This is because the majority of my practice came from CPUs and the group of friends I play with whose skills are no greater than mine.

People use techniques CPUs can't think of and their adaptability means that there isn't a formula for victory like there often is with CPUs.
Every time I fight someone new, I discover new techniques and challenges I need to overcome - this isn't something that happens with CPUs.

The CPU AI "gets smarter" the more you fight them.
Your friends aparently do not have that capability.

I think thats just a myth (unless you were being sarcastic: I have trouble reading that)

See I can only play against CPUs but want to go into tournaments sometime in the future. My wifi has been cancelled and was too laggy, my family hates the game and generally me & my friends go out drinking and to the cinema instead of staying home playing games, though one friend discusses the game with me.

What way would it be best for me to improve here so I am good at playing against human players? I currently use lvl 6 CPUs as the reflexes of those above that level are superhuman and level 6 has forced me to use shields/dodges/airdodges and defensive techniques I never used to use...

I think it's the opposite. If you know you have bad habits you can work it out facing lvl9's by catching yourself while doing them.

@ TC: Just chaingrab them, it's not like the CPU is going to come out of the TV and start saying you're gay lol.

CPU's don't suck as much as a lot of people think. In fact, they are GODLY. They have god-like reflexes and react to anything and everything that comes their way with god-like speed. They are good in an annoying way. But like afew people have stated, they don't fight like a real person would, and they cause you to pick up bad habits. Fighting human players will probably decrease your skill against CPUs, and vice versa.

CPUs do read your button inputs. Close range they're amazingly good, powershielding and grabbing, but if you camp with a projectile they're screwed.

Plus they usually recover the same way everytime.

Dont take CPU matches seriously. CPUs have no mindgames, which brawl is made of, they simply react to what you do.

If you can't play people offline, stick to online only. Don't play CPU's.

Sorry TP, this is personal, and too good to pass up.

You claim you could be better than me or that your friends are good and then you post this.

Thank you for making my day bro.

Also, btw, if you dislike chain grabbing, for the love of God use a different main or stop being a ****ing scrub, DDD is SUPER oriented around his chain grabs, kinda why all his bad match ups are PEOPLE HE CANT CHAIN GRAB.

If you main Dedede, and you don't chaingrab, you might be a scrub.

I'm the best on my block so how come I can't win an AllisBrawl ladder match TT____TT?

CPUs annoy the crap out of me too. I don't usually lose to them, but they can come alot closer than my friends. :) I just don't play level nines anymore; they're not real, and they've trapped me in some horrid habits.

Don't play computers all srs bsns like....trust me, you gain alot of bad habits.

Play against mainers of the characters you described.
you gain experience, and learn the matchup.
