Be calm. If you lose one match out of 3, and you get to counterpick a stage, STOP. Take your time to think. Your opponent is not going to say hurry up.

After you get ahold of your nerves, choose Battlefield if you haven't been there already. Lay explosives on the platforms. Your explosives create "off limit" zones. If there is a platform on the stage, stay underneath the platform and plant a C4 Down+B on it. For fun times, plant a C4 on the Platform of Smashville.

EDIT:

PLAY FRIENDLIES. Play as many as you can.

Go for the fourth controller slot everytime. If you do, Grenades will not hurt you when you're grabbing someone.

TL:DR; Camp with 'Nades and space with Ftilt.

As Snake you need to watch out for these guys:

Metaknight
King Dedede
Falco
ROB
Wario
Donkey Kong
Pikachu
Pit
Olimar
Toon Link

However, if this is your first tournament you should faimilarize yourself with as many matchups as you can beforehand, especially of the higher tier characters that you'll see more of.

Good luck.

Just expect to get ***** and you'll do better than you thought you would.

Beating up on your friends means nothing. They probably aren't good.

You probably aren't good either but it's good that you're going out there.

Except 1....(luigi aka L-BEEZY)he is really good and plays one on ones all the time with me and if dont use snake its always a close match.i dont think i will win but i dont think ill lose i the first round.,add me.ill let u all now what happens sunday nite.lol:laugh:

Don't worry I'm like that to everyone, including myself.

Good luck and if something lame works abuse the hell out of it (you can probably get through the first round of a small tourney just spamming u-smash and tilting/grabbing if they come close).

True. Think of it this way: You have to fall before you can rise (and sometimes that fall is very, VERY hard) but just keep at it, it'll be worth it. Plus the experience of a tournament is amazing :)

Don't worry too much about winning. Very few people actually win their first tournament. Rather, worry about paying attention to the things your opponents do, and figuring out ways to deal with it. This way, you develop the best habits first.
