So after playing some Team Fortress 2 I was thinking, wouldn't it be cool if you had Critical Hits in Smash bros. The idea came before I even touched or knew of TF2, but after playing it, it seems like crits could work in games outside RPGs. It would very by character, so maybe you could have Tingle, a character who is generally weak but has an amazing crit rate,

What do you all think?

Like it in TF2

But in Brawl it would be not good, and don't really want to explain why but it would not ...

Haha, oh wow.

I can just tell this is going to be the best thread ever. While Crits actually work in a funny way in TF2, it wouldn't translate to Smash too well... and if I know this place well, you're going to be hearing A LOT about that. Let's just hope we can get some nice angry replies in here before the thread gets locked.

Criticals are luck-based, so having the option to disable them would be nice, yes.

There's always Marth's final smash. Haha, I love that thing.

We already have Tripping, Dedede throwing smashballs, G&W Hammer landing on 9, and Peach throwing Bob-ombs. Adding crits would take away any need for skill in the game.

For future reference Critical hits only work in RPG's.

Crits are even lame in TF2.

"Dude I just dominated like 5 kids with that Crit Rocket LOL"

no skill needed.

We have critical hits. Its called Sweetspotiing. Zelda, Wolf, Marth's tip of sword...and his Final Smash.

Critical Hit... In a way we have it, as mentioned above, with sweetspotting. If we did add RPG-esque Critical Hits, the game would be even more random.

As interesting as this would be, I think it would be more hated than tripping. The only way I could see it working would be if it wasn't random... like using moves in a certain order or position guaranteed a critical.

Why wont it translate well into Smash? It's all in good fun so this can add some variety, keep the battles fresh, and add some hilarious fun. Smash is no more competitive then TF2. Plus, it would also be helpful to weaker players as crits could be more often for losing players.

Yep, but you get the same effect afterwords. The critical hit does sound fun, but maybe more in a special brawl kind of way, but that's just me.
No. A critical hit is when you randomly do more damage (and impact in Smash). A charged one is over time. It was more purposful, but not as random or quirky as crits.

Would be fun as a special effect that I can turn on/off, but horrible as a permanent effect.

lol /v/

my critical hit is to choose Wario.

They would **** it up somehow, probably make the losing person more likely to do critical hits

I don't really think Critical hits would be a good idea for smash. I already think its dumb enough that someone playing G&W can just spam the judgment hammer move and eventually get a free kill with out any kind of skill. If you add crits then you take a lot of the skill out of the game

Crits would make the game too random. We already have tripping, we don't need another thing for people to john about. "OMG you only beat me cause you got a crit F-smash, if it was regular I wouldn't have died!"

Yea, bad idea. Sounds cool, but it isn't practical.

Another things to randomly influence matches? This one may even be considered worse than tripping, cool idea but not applicable, and CURSE YOU FOR GIVING SMASH DEVS THE IDEA!!!

For one, when TF2 is played competitively, crits are always turned off. I know because I've been playing with a clan competitively. I mean, I enjoy a good crit rocket as much as the next guy, but when you throw them into competition, it just ends badly.

Secondly, crits in smash would be FAR more devastating than they are in TF2. In smash, you get 3-5 stocks. In TF2, you're on a 20 second timer with 5-11 other teammates to help out when you die. If you got unluckily killed by two crits in a smash match, that would already devastate you, because you be far, FAR behind your opponent. Even if I was just playing casually, I would be screaming at the TV if someone ever double critted me like that, leaving me two stocks behind.

Well, certain moves wouldn't crit like Game and Watch's judgment. Some attack may have a lower rate of getting a critical then others (namely Marth's f-smash)

Mario Kart Wii anyone?
Lol yea, it will be like

"if you are down by 3 stocks, you respawn with a Smash Ball(which already happens...) bunny hood, metal box, curry, and a golden hammer in hand!

Thats kinda how Mario Kart is, except in Mario Kart it isn't quite as unfair as it would be in Smash.

That seems awkward... Some attacks have hitboxes that are as big as characters themselves... :/ Ever tried aiming a Falcon Punch right in someone's belly? x_x

What the hell, what don't you understand of skill?
Wait... let me answer that for you, you probably don't have any, most of it is luck, allllllllllllllll luck!
And what now you want to a crits??!?!?!?!!?
It is bad enough that tripping was indtroducted so that it could potentialy kill a person.
Random luck and bad luck.
Yes, that's definitally what we need, more noobs spaming the smashes and eventally you get hit and that god****ed crit comes, and you die!

What a stupid idea, probably comming from a stupid person.
You are now offically declaired the "NOOB OF THE WEEK', Congratz!

[actual response]

The idea of Crits are good in RPG's because it is a turn based system, and that it depends on the 'luck' attribute.

However, in brawl it is not a turn based system, and the users skill is dominant, tripping caused the skill of the player affecting the game slightly decreased, but with a killing crit, it would cause skill to take an all time low and people could just spam.
It might work, but only if they made a very complicated system of having crits.

Why do you many people not only advocate using the random elements already in the game but also want to add more randomness to it? I mean, even when I was a Casual gamer, I disliked losing because the game just randomly gave my opponent a lucky break for no effort or skill at all.
