Toon Link if cut I think would stay cut because of the clone hate and I admit Toon Link doesn't have as interesting of a moveset as lucas.

Ike was the other. He'd probably have returned over Roy. Ike has better popularity and it's easier to bring back Brawl assets than Melee assets.

Olimar has no chance as paid DLC. He's a very unpopular character whose pretty much only mostly seen in tournaments, and many casuals don't like him at all, hence the "Olimar sucks" and "Who plays as Olimar?" posts in his Miiverse support community. He would sell poorly and those who would buy him would feel cheated that he got nerfed too hard from Brawl to be worth the money. It's not like he's Roy. Yeah.

My mains are Lucina and Lucario.
If Lucario was cut he would be the most requested character, bar none. It will never happen, though.

Lucina on the other hand, might not be so lucky. If she's cut, it's probably for a reason...unless she gets a similar level of support, but probably not, because she's another FE character.

Considering I main Link who is arguably the most iconic and most popular Nintendo character besides Mario himself, I'm pretty sure he'd have a very high demand to be brought back for DLC....

ZSS is a bit more controversial but because she is still Samus (one who is completely unique to her other form by not being a clone mind you) who is another very iconic character as well as having a big enough following herself there would be a high demand for her too...

I'm thinking if they'd get cut (not gonna happen for both but for the sake of the argument) they would both have a very strong chance of returning...

Seeing that they were, yes. The fact that there's a reason they're gone has hurt them, but the IC's have maintained a lot of popularity despite all that, and I think that says a lot.

Pit was my Brawl main so I'm glad Sakurai Bias brought him back twofold.
Lucas, Ice Climbers, and Wolf were my secondaries so yeah I was pretty salty that none of them came back originally (and still am).

For Fox, umm... I don't think he would even be cut, being an important part of the fanbase...somehow. There's no actual proof that Fox has ever been decided to be dropped, but I suppose if he got cut, 80% of the Smash fanbase would be surprised and would want him back.

Fox is, along with Captain Falcon, the face of Smash. Cutting Mario would get less backlash.

My Brawl main were the ICs & were cut due to 3DS hardware limitations. If SSB4 was only on the Wii U however, then many many people would want them back, like how people still want them as DLC despite the 3DS's limitations.

Marth is the face of Fire Emblem so he probably wouldn't get cut & Falco is also up there with Fox & Falcon with terms of popularity in Smash.

You can't have Kirby cut from Smash.

ROB would probably be as demanded as the ICs, except he would have a chance at DLC. (sorry IC supporters)

I don't remember who I mained in brawl, considering I played that game relatively briefly before going back to melee.

I think it was ike? I remember really liking ike when I first played him. I played marth a lot too.

in melee I primarily played samus, marth, sheik, and ganondorf, all of which I think would be in high demand to return. samus and marth are, unfortunately, not nearly as good as their melee incarnations, but I still believe marth would be missed sorely. you just can't cut the FE OG and expect to get away with it. Ike might be less missed, but he's a solid character and I really don't see any reason to get rid of him regardless of new FE games. he's one of the more popular lords in the series i think, and now that he's a two-time returning veteran, I think he'll be pretty safe in future smash games. robin and lucina will probably be replaced for newer FE characters.

ganondorf is obviously safe, being one of the iconic villains of nintendo, and samus is samus. none of the original 12 are going anywhere, let alone nintendo's flagship sci-fi mascot

edit: I played Wolf a ton too, and I'm pretty sure he'll be dlc within the year, along with maybe one or two newcomers.

I would be rather nervous of ROB's chances as DLC if he were cut though.

I think that the lack of Olimar would actually cause some sort of disturbance, as (I believe) that Pikmin is a rather popular franchise despite Olimar not being very popular in the game (for some godforsaken reason), and plus Pikmin 3 has somewhat recently been released so people would note that it doesn't make much to not have some Pikmin representation.
I'm not sure what his chances as coming back as DLC would be like.

To be fair, I think any cut character would have fan support.

Even Pichu and Young Link have supporters. Roy had a fairly prominent fanbase, too.

Ice Climbers, despite their chances being repeatedly shot down by Sakurai, have a massive fanbase.

The main reason why Squirtle and Ivysaur have relatively tepid interest is because they're kind of a package deal, in addition to the fact that Charizard's solo return kinda dismantled their viability.

I would be pretty sad if Ike was cut. It was bad enough for me that Wolf got cut ; _ ; but the chances of Ike returning as DLC? Idk to be honest. He could potentially be replaced with a more recent Fire Emblem rep (Fates?), but who knows.

That is true. Honestly, if one of the 12 ever were cut, I don't think it'd be Jigglypuff. It'd be either Falcon or Ness.

Falcon, despite the memes he generates, is easily the most expendable of the 12, due to not having a game since the GX on the GameCube. Ness has gone even longer than that, and he's had even less games than Falcon.

Jiggs was nearly cut in Brawl...and was revealed late in Smash 4's development...it is pretty clear that Jigglypuff would be the lowest priority character from the original 12...both Ness and Falcon have solidified themselves as Smash staples...

They may be the face of Smash, but Mario is the face of Nintendo, the very company that this series is meant to celebrate. Hell, the series is named after him! He's definitely at the very bottom of the "To Cut" list.

Wouldn't really be that hard getting Jiggs back, while there is a sizeable hatebase, their entire argument argument stems from the ignorant misconception that she "isn't important" despite appearing as a catch-able entity in every main handheld Pokemon game, something not even Pikachu has the prestigious honor of. Not to mention that she had a very important anime role, is literally as iconic as Lucario, and is a original 12 member. If she was cut, I'd expect that ignorant line of thinking to be completely dismantled in any serious debate, and that argument would be laid to rest finally since I reckon it would become common knowledge after detractor #10005 uses the same line of thought and gets absolutely demolished for the ten-millionth time.

I'd be very upset if she was cut in the first place though.

If Olimar weren't included in the initial Smash 4 roster, I feel like it'd probably be due to the 3DS' limitations since, if I remember right, Sakurai just barely got him to work on Smash 3DS. If so, I think he'd probably be in a pretty similar spot as the Ice Climbers are now, with maybe the added boost of being a character from a relatively new IP whose franchise appeared in Nintendo Land, had a recent game released (Pikmin 3), and has gotten a lot of attention from Miyamoto. It's true that Olimar isn't really a super popular fighter in Smash 4 now, but I think it's sort of hard to speculate about how much support he'd get if he were cut instead of Wolf or Snake.

I don't know if we'll ever see an original 12 member get cut. I've gotten a bit nervous in the past when people talk about the possibility of Ness getting cut in favor of Lucas, since I have fond memories of playing as Ness (though I like Lucas too). I think the Mother/Earthbound fanbase is pretty vocal and good at mobilizing support though, so I'd probably expect him to return if he weren't in the base game.
