Ike, Overrated, and Overpowered!

Sure, Ike may be slow, but is easily the most powerful character in the game, and i find him to be WAY OVERRATED! He will definatly be high tier, I don't ever use Ike at all! But seriously, he is OVERRATED!

Now, I've haven't been using Ike much recently due to curiosity with other "worse" characters, but...

When I read the title, I was like "yep, Ike's overrated, maybe he has something worth reading" then I read "overpowered" and I changed my mind.

He's only "overpowered" if the person playing against him doesn't pay attention.

no dude, how about this, Get somebody like.....hmm...Mario to do his Fsmash, then get Ike to do his Fsmash, Almost all of Ikes attacks have VERY good Knockback! But seriously, so many people use Ike...

I find it funny when a Pit player criticizes Ike. Despite being about ten times faster with a projectile, as well as specialized ways to gimp his recovery (mirrorshield Quick Draw gimp FTW) he still seems to have trouble... Ike really is only a pain in multibrawls where his smashes can potentially kill EVERYONE at low percents. In 1vs1, if you watch him carefully, he almost always has some sort of start-up lag for every move, allowing you to spotdodge if you do it right.

He rocks in multibrawls, but can be danced around in a 1vs1, especially by Pit.

Well the thing is, i don't use pit when fighting Ike, i know i could win with Pit with his speed etc etc, But i make it into a challenge and use Ness! And please, don't talk **** about Pit Players...

I agree, too many people use Ike. And most of them don't even play his aerial game or tilts, and that's very... disturbing for me.

But see, the big difference is this:

Seeing Ike's F-smash is like watching an anime where the main character shouts what move they're going to use before they use it.

Usually it's a move that kicks major *** but if the opponent could just be smart enough and figure out what comes after "KAAAMEEE" for once, then they wouldn't have to be in so much pain all the time ._.;

If it were possible to correctly put this in RPG terms, Ike would have high STR and low ACC in Brawl, since his moves come out so slowly.

But I guess if the target never dodges or counter attacks, then his 'weakness' wouldn't exist and he'd be overpowered.

Ike is only overpowered in Basic Brawl due to the fact that everything in that game type is set up to Ikes advantage. Its pitifully easy to steal KO's with him in that environment.

I get the feeling this is where alot of the anger directed at Ike comes from, and personally I wouldn't mind Ike being so powerful in a certain gametype if it weren't for the fact that it makes up exactly 50% of Ninentdo's just fantastic online play for Brawl ( I guess Xbox Live has kinda spoiled me ).

I agree that he is overrated, but not overpowered. I used to hate him just because a lot of people liked him, but now I realize that he is fun to play and don't just play him cause he's "cool". But like every character he has his upss and downs.

Dude the moment you say Ike is overpowered then overrated I don't really care how good you are, you are a noob. Ike will never be high tier everybody hear knows that fact and just dreams he will be. And stop complaining that he's overpowered just b/c you get pwnd since you use ness instead of pit for a challenge. That's your mistake and you should not have any troubles against Ike with Ness either, so why are you complaining on the Ike forums. We all find projectiles annoying and frankly having a campy character mainer come here just to bit*h about Ike is not needed. So take your complaints to your forums, because the Ike forums don't need this type of bs thread b/c we already have enough of them

trust i use Ike exclisively in tourney's and let me tell you he is not overpoewered
or overrated.Sure he has the ability to kill but what good is it if you can't even cath your opponent
he's low tier and mid tier at best and we all know how you cant win with midtiers in brawl
I've been placing 5th consistently in local tourney's with Ike because i dont counterpick i just stick to Ike so i know how hard it is to playi him

I agree entirly with this! it is hilarious tho how nobody counters him then everyone get mad saying i use a noob character

So many people use Ike in multibrawls, which leads many KO's which are by luck 80% of the time, by inexperienced users, which just passes it on, and expands his popularity. Using Kirby, Mario, even Bowser can easily take out Ike like a little girl in 1vs1.

Although Ike is hands down the maost kickass of the characters, dedede actually has an edge in power, his fully charged fsmash can kill from like 20% Ike is a beast tho. when someone masters an ike, he cna be a real pain to fight. all the more reason to live him. he's almost like snake in a way, considering he is hard to master but unbeatable when you do.

I've tried to start playing online, but I always get hit by most of Ikes attacks because of lag (which makes it hard to run towards, away from, or dodge an opponent, and to recover at the right time). Ike seemed overpowered when I had first got game, and my brother started playing him. Now that I've gotten better, It's only difficult when I'm careless. Ike isn't that hard to beat once you're able to see his attacks coming.

For the most powerful character, it should be the one with best balance of average damage and average knockback (maybe priority, too). From what I've been reading, that would actually be Bowser or Ganondorf.

Sakurai must be a powerful man to ask that no one has opinions on what characters are better than others.

Maybe others can agree with me on this one. Most of the time I play Ike I find myself always responding to them whether its they're using projectiles or just persistent fair/bair spacing. Usually Shieldgrabbing, Jabbing out of shield, Spotdodging, with a random fair/bair/eruption(rarely) is how I find myself playing. I do more than that but the point is I'm still just responding to them the whole match... or getting hit. Often I'm in a position where I can get hit but even if I know it's coming the best I get out of it is an opportunity of getting closer to them where I "might" get to hit them. So the most successful way I get anything out of Ike is usually by trying to defensively pressure them to the edge and then suddenly going offensive, trying to combo them as they have no space to back up OR, if they roll, try and catch it with a powerful attack that will most likely setup the kill.

I guess what I'm saying here is Ike's playability is very dependent on you properly reacting/predicting to close space to what your opponent is doing. So I wouldn't call Ike Overpowered or anything. It usually takes me a lot of thinking to get a win vs a good opponent who just safely spaces/spams me. I'm very surprised someone here said Ike is 2nd from bottom tier in japan. I think he's a competitive mid tier character if anything. He won't win games for you mindlessly or anything but I think he's suitable enough to use as a weapon along with your gaming ability.

On another note... I don't understand why Ike is considered all that slow. I mean his attacks in general are really slow but then you have his jab and bair which come out really fast. His side b travels a good distance quick and the whole recovery on whiff is so useful. His forward tilt is really as fast as anyone elses regular forward smash attack as well as the same speed (I think).

I know I only have a few posts and that I don't have a ton of games under my belt,however, these are just the impressions I've formed from my experiences as playing with Ike. It kinda offends me when people act like Ike is overpowered though as it just... cheapens my wins. Wins I feel I have to work hard to get as an Ike vs good players.

Feel free to call me out on anything. I understand a lot of people's ideal play style for Ike varies differently from what I've described above. Just try to really explain your side of it.

i personally thing ike will be top of the mid tier. his meta game lacks depth. every ike player is roughly doing the same thing. i play ike as a fun secondary and me 2 friends play him exatcly the same.

of course he has a few tricks but not enough to mind game a metaknight into falling into your f smash. But that aslo hsa to do with the player
