im having trouble picking a main

i love to play competitively especially with my cousin. i just cant seem to pick a main character first i chose marth cuz he was good in melee and it just built up from there. and i got pretty good with him but i dont really care for his play style and then i chose snake because of his chuck norris like self and i didnt like his play style either then i chose luigi and i looked into his gaming history and he is the embodiment of P2 i heard and thats basicly what i DONT want.
i want a main character with a cool background history i want to hear the pros and cons of them
i dont care about heavy or light projectiles or not if i like there history and play style ill like them and id like a character with not too many games because i would like to play some of them i want a character that is fun and cool

I guess that's a pretty good outlook on a main, not caring for power. I, personally chose G&W and Meta Knight for these reasons:

Meta Knight: "Victory... is my destiny..." Is pretty much what clinched it for me. He is an awesome character with flying abilities, too.

G&W: I think I picked him because he is, plain and simple, totally awesome. I love his taunts, I love his Final Smash, I love his moves, I love how totally amusing he is in SSE. I find him a funny and enjoyable character. (I also like how, no matter what, he angles himself to what angle the ground is...)

So, I guess you could use the standards I used to find them. I guess, behind all those reasons, the characters speed and weight fit my preferences perfectly, and they work well with how I play.


Perhaps you could base your criteria on something like that?

I would strongly recommend Pikachu, that goes for everyone.

just play a good couple of matches with every single character in the game, find the one(s) that are good for you, if there is more than one keep playing with them and try to narrow it down to just one.

This will help you find the character you are best with, and also the one which you like to play as the most.

However you seem to be concentrating on the actual character itself, rather than its moveset. You want a character that is 'fun and cool'? It doesnt sound to me like you play competitively (as in tourneys and such like) very often, if ever. If this is the case, you dont even need a main.

I have 2 mains. Diddy Kong and Kirby. Kirby because we go way back. I still remember playing the old Kirby games, and he's also not one of the very widely used characters.

Diddy, oh main Diddy. Straight from my favorite series of all time, DonkeyKong. I wanted to main either DK or Diddy, and this is a bit silly, but I liked Diddy better not only for his play style (which I am comfortable with) but because I was younger than my brothers when we played DonkeyKong Country together, and I was always player 2, as Diddy. Plus as a musician, I have a high respect for the Orchestral compositions done for the game.

That freakin Dsmash is nearly as fast as luigi's Nair...

not kidding, play random characters for a while, then find whoever fits your playstile. Don't take your main just with recommendations and such

Luigi because he has good ground and aerial attacks plus ground attacks.

Meta Knight because he has fast attacks which helps you kill your opponent easier and faster.

Try to find a character that accurate matches your own personal stradegies, then u'll find ur perfect main. Experiment with different characters, not ones you think u'll be good with - my 2nd main Lucas is a character i thought never to main in

aha i am not loosing to my cousin as marth. i am owning him badly. its just i dont care for marths play style

i am liking dedede and olimar

dedede because he was voiced by sakurai and hes powerful and has nice recovery
olimar because i love the pikmin games and i think hes just awesome lol
