It's kind of hard to hate Mint when his mindset to improve his better than everyone below him despite beating everyone. In Smash 4 it's feasible but Melee/PM just isn't going to happen unless we get someone else with anywhere near the passion Mint has. He three stocks people in Grand Finals with no effort at all in those game and nobody else puts the time in needed to improve like he does.

Smash 4 though it's much closer than people give it credit for. Realistically, right now, EOE's the only person who consistently takes games off Mint in tournament but the gap isn't huge or anything. I'm pretty sure by the time Breaking Boundaries 2 rolls around it'll be really intense.

SEPTEMBER POWER RANKINGS

It's that time again! The (non-Bomberman) power rankings are here with another few changes.

First up, I've made a stupidly long blog post which details EVERYTHING to do with the decision making behind the Power Rankings - it'll also be much easier to find things over there rather than scrawling through all of FB. Hopefully it'll clear up all the questions you guys may have as to why X player is above Y. I also recognise that at this point in time, the Melee and Smash 4 PR in particular is very hard to accurately portray. Below the top level in both games is a very even battlefield which is difficult to put correctly in numerical form but we tried our best =]

Secondly, we decided to remove the Honourable Mentions section. I agree with this idea mainly because I've seen first hand players that are aiming just to get onto an INCREDIBLY vague "honourable mentions" list which is an achievement that's not really clear on what it's meant to mean. It's basically a catch-all "players that could be good/are good/idk really" section of the Power Rankings which goes against the main idea of a numerical ranking for strong players. Players should be aiming for an actual number or player they need to beat/get better than rather than aiming to get onto a list with no real indication as to how they DO get onto it. That was kind of rambly but I hope you understand.

Search it up on Steam if you don't know what it is, its a Smash inspired indie game thats gameplay is like the technical skill of Melee, the inputs of Sm4sh and the combo ability of 64. (And nothing from Brawl because, lets be honest, pretyt much every competitive aspect of Brawl was made better in Sm4sh.)

I haven't personally played it yet as I'll be getting it on the Xbone - if it's out before Breaking Boundaries, I'll have a setup for play there! No promises on tourney, will depend on the day. Someone can bring their laptop with it too I guess if they want

Cool. (Also, don't get it on Xbone, more people will get PC so more opponents online + more controllers are supported.)

It's very, very rare fighting games to be played in tournament on a PC but that is a valid point. I'm not sure when I'll get it at any rate as I'm currently learning other FGs in Skullgirls, Killer Instinct and MKX so yet another one isn't really a priority - especially when it's only early access.

Also I should probably update y'all on some Breaking Boundaries 2 plans.

-Smash 4 Doubles will be returning - it'll be straight bracket and exclusively Best of 3 throughout the tournament to accommodate for Mint, Way, maXy and EOE inevitably holding up everything.
-Smash 4 Singles is going to be 2 stock rather than 3 stock - I'm getting more and more concerned with time, especially with a potential lack of monitors. Sorry about that.
-There's going to be a schedule going up for basically everything - registration, shut off time for each tournament's signup, start/end time for each tournament and, most importantly, dinner break. I'm hoping that by having a designated dinner break, people will all be ready to play their games as required rather than having two people out of the venue getting dinner at basically all times.
-Players will only be able to enter two concurrent tournaments at a time - this means you can't enter SF4 as well as PM and Sm4sh Doubles, for example. The jury's still out on whether SF4 will be included or not so I'll see closer to the time what the interest is like. This is basically a "MiKenyan Rule" as his strong performances in all of those tournaments held up the bracket last time for ages.
-My loving family will be helping out which allows me to leave the TO desk and actually do some stuff. This means I can use all of the CRTs in the morning for PM and then later change them all to Melee. Additionally, there's going to be a few things in place to make sure that games are played as soon as a setup is free and that the TO desk isn't swamped with people trying to see the brackets.
-Smash 4 and Melee/PM will each have their own screen for easier viewing. Not 100% sure on whether we'll be streaming each one yet but they'll definitely be recorded.
-BrianVonDoom's going to be coming up to stream/record for us! Commentary, stream overlays and all the rest. Due to Smash 4 being an HD game, it'll probably be the game getting this setup but Melee/PM should have one too - just not sure on commentary.

I recognise the tournament isn't for a very long time so I'm not going to confirm any more details for a while at any rate. The plan is still to have (small) round robin pools, best of 5 for all of top 8 in Melee/PM/Sm4sh Singles and all the rest. I realise this is a lot of boring stuff but I want to address the problems people had last time and make this one even better =]

Last thing - if you can bring an HD monitor/TV or CRT TV, pleeeaaase do! The more setups we have, the faster everything runs, the more time y'all get to play friendlies and eat food and the less stressed I am. If you do bring a TV, you'll get money off your venue fee as well =]

There were a few tournies over the weekend that I forgot to post the results of. Gratz to Formaldehyde for winning Smash 4 at Limerick and Dialnouns for winning PM. Gratz to Mint for winning everything at Domicon and for reverse 3-0'ing EOE with a random Toon Link after going 2-0 down.
