Hello, i read an old thread long time ago about spraypainting your gamecube controllers to make them grip better. i was wondering if this was ok to do cause i heard spraypainting could fry circuits. i am also interested in spraypainting my wii if this is safe to do as well.

Spraypainting you wii = a no no.
Taking apart the gc controller parts and just painting the outside would work.
Are you saying spraypainting your wii is bad because it damages it or because it voids the warranty? I could care less about the warranty.

Also, so i just take apart the gc controller, and spray the outer shell? Must i let it dry before putting it back together?

Take apart your controller, and look at where all the wires and everything goes because it needs to go back in the exact same spot. Paint the shell, let it dry then put it back together.

I paint GC controllers and sell them (paid for an entire quarter of living expenses for college that way, once ^-^)

You have to get a tri-wing screwdriver (need to order it from playasia.com, or look for it on amazon, etc) because normal screwdrivers will not work. After that, take apart the controller and put the pieces immediately in a clean ziploc bag. If dust particles collect (and they can within seconds) on the circuitry of your controller, it runs the risk of ruining it.

Next, paint the controller and make sure you're using an ACRYLIC paint NOT ENAMEL. I suggest letting each layer dry for 3-4 hours in a safe place (not in direct sunlight) and after that, when you put on the final clear coat (applications of this can happen every 30 minutes) let it dry for a full 24 hours.

Pull out your plastic ziploc bag at that point, and carefully put the thing back together. Do not get your fingerprints on the actual circuitry as this may also ruin the functionality of the controller.

Hope that helps. If you have any other questions, let me know :)

EDIT:
Oh, and as far as painting a Wii, I haven't tried that but I would imagine it would be much more difficult to keep dust from getting on the important parts of THAT. Same rules would apply, though I would professionally advise against it until you can get the guidance of someone who really knows what they're doing when it comes to modding or painting Wii's.

Just a few tips for painting your controller.

- Clean the controller before painting (compressed air is the best, you can even clean circuits with it)
- Paint in an open yet clean space (You want air to flow, but no dirt that can mess your painting)
- Use Acrylic paint (As posted above)
- When painting make each coat as light as possible (even if it means doing it a few more times)
- Same deal for the clear coat, light and often.
- If you have access to an air compressor (or canned air such as Dust off) use it to clean the circuits.
- Let dry for a full day before assembling it.
- Take photos of the whole process ;)

Thanks guys, I already have a Tri Wing, so i will attempt this soon.

EDIT: I have a metallic gold spraypaint bottle, and do not know if it is enamel or acrylict. however i do have another black one that is enamel and they look to be built the same way, so i am assuming my gold one is also enamel. Also would it be ok to take out indiviudally each button and spray paint them?

It's not safe, and it's gay. If you do it, everyone will make fun of you, and you'll have no friends, so proceed at your own risk.

Shut up Troll. If you want style to your GC Controller, have style. Spray Paining a controller will not affect your life. Its not like spray paint is full of chemicals that 1 of them can remove 17 trillion tons of oxygen in the air. STFU and GTFO
