Jigglypuff's U-Smash Spike?

This may not be as practical as you think, but here it is. Mario, Weegee (lol), and jigglypuff all have a "headbutt" u-smash correct? recently, it was discovered that mario and luigi can do a sort of spike at the end of the headbutt's arc. it is diffucult to do, but is a good edge guard if you can land it. So i remembered that jigglypuff has the same kind of up-smash, and i decided to try it. It took me a while, and I finaly pulled it off. it isnt the strongest spike, but it looks hard to recover from. this is VERY hard to do, and i only tested enough to pull it off once or twice. I set a cpu on battlefeild to jump next to a platform, and i attempted to spike him as he came up. You need to hit them while they are a bit under you to do this. So it will be a great edge guard it it was practical, and it may. Try it, and post about your results. :p

If you could time it right, you could DAC to the edge of the stage and spike when you let go of "Z". That will be a smexi finish no?

Nice, considering Jigglypuff is one of the worst characters to stop an opponent recovering on-stage, this should help a lot. Nice find, can you save a replay of doing this and then send it to me so I can post it? It needs a video.

I'm not gonna add this to the guide until I get video confirmation but it should help.

Edit: If its at the end of the headbutt animation, this could be the perfect set-up to bair stage spikes.

Lol, I wasn't being sarcastic. What I meant to say is her on-stage edgeguarding is the worst in the game, while her off-stage edgeguarding is one of the best, so this should help her on-stage edgeguarding a fair amount because she has only mindgame the opponent right now.

The thread should be closed soon. On the luigi thread were i found the idea it stated that its a very unlikely sweetspot, and may not have been put into the game directly (glitch if you will...?). I will still make a replay if i land the spike again. It may have as well been weird DI, but most likeley not because i was abel to do it in training mode with a cpu on "jump". Sadly it isnt very practical, so i dont recomend trying to spike your opponent by U-smashing at the edge of a stage as they recover. You are better off as alex said just punishing their recovery with a n-air.

Wait. So I am confused about the hitbox here.

So we have Jigglypuff facing forward towards the ledge.

Here Up-smash looks like this:

Is the spike on the front end of Jigglypuff or the back end? Cause if its on the back end, your only chance would be a reverse jump canceled Up-smash which really does nothing for Jigglypuff. Otherwise, a bair or nair would be preferable if facing away from the ledge and opponent is recovering.

lol the front end. if you connect just right on the downward arc, you could hit the sweetspot
EDIT: i love how every screenshot you show of an attack is jigglypuff attacking MK. that makes my day.
EDIT: typo :-) : Here Up-smash looks like this: "her"
your welcome :-)

Ok, then this could be Jigglypuff's best edgeguarding technique if she is a quarter or more away from the stage with the opponent approaching the edge. Just boost smash there and then release. I should try this.

um.. no
like i said, this only happens when god smiles opon you. it wasnt meant to be there. i cant call it is tech yet. its much too complicated. until one of us actualy can applicate it well in a battle, its not very useful.

A lot of crazy techs are utilized well because they found out how to manipulate barely anything into something. If it can be replicated and there could be a use for it, it could be used. The major use I am thinking of is an illusion breaker. Illusions fails to smashes most of the time, but for Jigglypuff, her smashes are too slow or too useless to be worth the trouble. I think this might help her out a fair amount on gimping these guys.

It just needs more testing is all. It seems so hard to connect though. Can you post a screenshot of the exact sweetspot point? That may shed some light on this.

Wait... so do they have to be below you, or can they be off to the side?

I'll do some testing later, I guess.
