Wait so this is basically walking and pressing the cstick???

Because when you start a walking jab then mash the cstick Megaman literally slides a bit, I'm not sure if this distance is longer then the full walking 3 pellet animation but this could have some cool applications

Edit: OMG the animation when you press down is HILARIOUS try it out when you get the chance guys

Walk
Keep walking then press a once
Then mash cstick down

Not mash, you need walk time in between Jabs. Moderately precise C-stick taps. though it does look funny when you mash C-stick.
Also the distance isn't longer.

Ah I see, is it me or does the cstick version cancel the lag on the last pellet a little bit more?

Well C-stick is just Jab, so does Jab have less lag than F-tilt? I don't think so so, but I do believe it has more hitstun and a better frame advantage. Though this is to be tested.

Its pretty easy to pull off so So they really is no reason you Shouldn't optimize lemon Combo to
Jab > F-tilt > NS Jab/Nair 8-9%
F-tilt > NS Jab > NS Jab/Nair 8-9%

So Forget this
F-tilt/Jab > F-tilt > F-tilt (6-7%)

I want to see your Bread N Butter combo for racking up damage. Heres mine. it's 23% and works until 80%
JCT Metal Blade > Grab >
  1. D-Throw > Fair
  2. B-throw
This is my Go to combo for racking up damage. I execute this about 3 times on each of the opponents stocks. The rest of my percent comes from Lemons and Bair Edgeguarding.

D-Throw > Fair > Neutral B > Dash Grab > D-Throw > Buffer Uair

Sometimes I am fortunate to get this whole thing down in one go but it heavily depends on how your opponent DI's your throw. If they DI upwards or at higher percent, you will go for Uair instead of Fair. Sometimes they can DI far enough away to not get hit by Fair.

I don't know the exact percents at this time, but it is capable of going to percents up to 35-40%

D-Throw > Fair > Neutral B > Dash Grab > D-Throw > Buffer Uair
Although not guaranteed, it's a very strong option. My go to reset.

Also on certain characters Ground Uair > Uair guaranteed and works any percent it's worth practicing as some are harder than others. Listed it in Damage, then how easy it's to pull off on the character.
So greninja takes teh full damage and its super easy and bowser can take the Full damage but the timing is strict. Although Mario doesn't take the Full 40%, but its easy to land the 2nd Uair compared to Bowser.

Did more testing here's more Uair > Uair
Uair > 19 frames of Landing Lag > Full Hop >Double Jump> Uair Combo works on the following:
:4greninja:,:4falcon:,:4bowser: super effective Full 40-41% if you try this in training it'll say 12 combo
The rest Fly out of it on the last few hits
:4charizard:,:4megaman:, 35%
:4dk:,:4wario2:,32%
:4drmario:,:4mario:,:4shulk:,:4fox:,:4dedede:,:4falco:,:4link:, 30%

There are others such as yoshi, lucario, wii fit trainer but its incredibly hard and not worth.

(Hoping no one found this before me)

You know how it's possible to U-Tilt at the ledge and grab it? I discovered a way to U-Tilt at the edge and NOT grab it. I think it has some pretty valuable mind-game uses such as tricking people into thinking you'll grab ledge, before jumping at them and attacking.
From my understanding, this is how it works. When you are standing at the very end of the ledge, you go into a different animation that looks like Mega Man is scared he'll fall off. This animation seems to prevent you from U-Tilting and avoiding the ledge for whatever reason, so what you have to do is go to the very end and U-Tilt before this animation can appear. You can simply dash up to the end and U-Tilt to accomplish this, or you can use an attack such as Dash Attack, Running U-Smash, Fair, and F-Tilt.

tl;dr: You need to make sure Mega Man doesn't look scared to U-Tilt off of the edge.

Here's some visual aid:

NS is a term i made up to make the notation for the When I write out the combo NS Jab > NS Jab > NS Jab less messy because Jab > Jab is impossible and if I just typed Jab > Jab > Jab. I'd have to explain Oh need need momentum on all the Jabs then also explain how to gain said momentum.

Basically Natural Slide (NS) was just a term I made up used to describe Canceling your walk or Drift to gain momentum that results in a minimal slide.

You can cancel Walk by returning The movement stick to neutral or pretty much any input.
You can cancel Drift by landing.
Its pretty basic

We have terms for the momentum we gain for canceling Dash (can be cancel Jump which allows. JC Usmash, JC Item Toss) and Roll (Roll Canceled Grab)
But I don't know if any exist for Walk or Drift. Therefore; I made one up just to help explain myself. If theres a proper name. please inform me.

Some of megamans actions carry momentum i.e. sliding, such as standing, ducking, walking, Jump, shield, U-taunt, F-Taunt, D-taunt, Jab, Dsmash, Usmash, Standing Grab, Pivot Grab, Item Toss, Skid.

Additional info
I think pretty anything without a set movement can slide. This makes sense why Dash doesn't conserve momentum since it has a set burst of speed (very useful, makes Dash dancing possible as the 2nd dash does not not have to fight against its own momentum)and walk does because it simply adds
Fsmash has megaman Takes a Step, then charge, release for the attack. Megaman Can't Slide at all when he Fsmashes. Diddy Kong's Fsmash, Charge, then Set movement on release. He can Slide Whilst Charging it but the momentum is killed on release.

The Idea of Natural Slide Jab is to use the momentum of Walk to extend the reach of Jab so Jab > Jab is possible.

C-stick makes this infinitely easier since you can Hold the movement stick Forward as to accelerate as much as you can between Jabs, and completely Kill Movement Stick input with C-stick to get the Jab hitbox instead of Ftilt Hitboxes.

Here a video showcasing edge slip mechanics
Combine edge slip with @ChopperDave's 0-death
So for the 0-death leafstool he set it up with a Metal Blade, but there's an even easier way to set it up.

Jab > edge slip > footstool > leafshield > LEAFSTOOLS OF DEATH

Jab > edge slip > Footstool is guaranteed. Also it can set up easy gimps all you'd need to do is steal their double jump with a nasty Nair or dair. Nair may be better at lower percents since it has high base knockback and has a disgusting angle. mid-percents a dair will seal the deal

(edit) Fast fallers can't be footstooled because you can't fastfall a Ftilt/Jab canceled Nair.

I finally figured out how to do something akin to peach's Nair lock combo!
If someone could attempt it in real time that would be beautiful.

(edit)This a no longer a wall of text, I have a vid of it.
Here's a 0 to death's

  1. Leafstool > Zdrop > 2° Footstool > Lemon Lock >
  2. Buffered Perfect Pivot(Just Hold the opposite direction after the 3rd lemon, until the metal blade switches hands, which indicates that you fully pivoted) > Short Hop > Fast Fall > ZDrop > Short hop > Zcatch > Footstool > Zdrop > 2° Footstool > Lemon lock
  3. Repeat step 2 a couple times
  4. . . . Lemon Lock > Utilt
The Mechanics
  • Consecutive Footstools have 50% less vertical gain than their previous Footstool
  • Secondary (2°) Footstool > Lemon Lock is a true combo
  • You can Footstool while the opponent is in Hitstun/Lag; Therefore, you can get guaranteed Footstools off Leaf Shield and Metal Blade, since they allow you access to all your mobility options, including Footstool

So I noticed some of the sliding technique stuff you guys were talking about and I think I found something today that I think it relates to but may not be what your talking about. I've found that if i hit the ground from horizontal air movement then go into a turn around animation I get this neat slide effect. During this time I'm in a neutral position and can do any ground attack, like down smash or up tilt for starters. I've tried it with other characters and it seems it's not exclusive to Mega Man but he seems to get a lot out of it distance wise. Maybe this could act as a good punish technique for when the opponent is at KO percent with up tilt and down smash and the like.

Sorry if this has already been discovered. I've lurked the smash forums for a while and I haven't braved posting until now. Just wanted to throw that out there in case nobody has messed with it at all. Thanks for your time.

I don't get this Natural Slide stuff. Can someone make a video? Having a hard time imagining what it looks like but it sounds interesting.

Credit doesn't really go to anyone just that it was discussed here.
What you described was a Natural slide, utilizing the momentum you get by canceling drift and then a Boost/Pivot walk.
Though boost/pivot walking wasn't described in that thread. Marth still has the most notable boost walk
It's a brawl vid but its still in Smash 4

I don't know if this counts and an advanced technique, but I've found that you can cancel the landing lag from the Tornado Hold by using your nair right before you land, then continuing it with two f-tilts. This allows you to keep moving and have a much safer recovery if you don't want to grab the ledge.

Eh. I'll try to showcase some other things. sorry about quality. 5 dollar capture card
Basically to get a guaranteed Lemon lock you need to land 2 consecutive Foostools.
The only way to combo into Footstools is Leafshield and Items.
(0:00)
The first showed Leafshield > primary Footstool > Zdrop > secondary Footstool > Lemon Lock (11%)
(0:43, or press 3)
the Second showed Zdrop > Zcatch > primary Footstool > Zdrop > secondary Footstool > Lemon Lock (16%)

You can do a semi-infinite by repeating case 2.
The Lemon Lock gives you enough time to repeat teh combo, but as you can see, the metalblade can poof when it touches the ground, which is 100% RNG. If you're lucky, you can do it 6 times (Metal Blade survives 5 landings, 6*16%=96%), and finish with a megaupper for a 0-death.
If someone could do some statistics and get some number on the chances that Metal Blade disappears, that'd be appreciated. I feel it's 50%

It works at all percents. 999% you can get both Footstools, but Lemons deal too much knockback to Jab Lock. so not ALL percents, but yes any realistic percents

Optimized Lemons bit (skip to, 2:13; or press 9)

I use luigi since he has low traction and is an extreme example

As you can see Jab > Jab > Jab is possible, resulting in a 9% combo
and to get max damage Jab > Jab > Nair, resulting in a 10% combo

What I did was cancel f-tilt into Jab by killing the movement stick with C-stick just before the F-tilt hitbox comes out.
The input looks like this
Whilst holding:GCR:: :GCA: F-tilt > :GCCD: cancel f-tilt, Jab > :GCA:/(:GCZ:) F-tilt > :GCCD: cancel f-tilt, Jab > :GCA:/(:GCZ:) F-tilt > :GCCD: cancel f-tilt, Jab

I mention :GCZ:, because you may find it easier to press a shoulder button to F-tilt because thumb is on c-stick.

Don't flick the C-stick, As soon as you are in hitlag, i.e. as soon as Jab connects and you successfully canceled F-tilt into Jab, then return C-stick to neutral

Any questions?

Very sexy! I been working on a jab lock aswell, Ftilt Ftilt to short hop nair at low percents sets up a pellet lock but of course you can tech it if you are ready. But what I found to be the most optimal damage after the pellet lock is a short hop upair into another upair or metalblade. Nothing like getting max damage and swag :]

to my knowledge, there are only 2 ways to get a guaranteed lemon lock, double Footstool, or an edge slip.
I've only found those 2 combos that get guarantee a double Footstool,

Perhaps you can fiddle around with Edge slips, I haven't played around much with it. Aside from Jab > edge slip > Footstool on floaties
and
Drop through platform > Bair > fastfall > Lemon lock
Only 1st hit of Bair should hit, resulting in an edge slip.

also: I agree, max damage. uair >uair is a guaranteed 40% on :4falcon::4bowser::4greninja:, delicious delicious damage.

U-air on shield > grab is a pretty nasty frame trap. Uair has very very fast multi hit so they to time their actions, or they'll be caught in it for 15-20%. the taller the victim the more ridiculous it is. also Uair is megaman's least laggy move aside from nair.

So I think I found a setup for utilt and other moves, including grabs. I dont think its game changing cause its hard to time but its nice to know all the possibilities. All you do is jump over opponent and Z drop a metal blade. If done correctly, the enemy will be launched in front of you where your ice cold iron fist will gladly greet them. At higher percentages it can go into uncharged fsmash, and im sure lots of other moves. I tested it with a bunch of characters and it worked on all, of course with Rosalina I kept sweetspotting luma instead. Grab is the safest option of course.

So Ive been actually pulling this off on my friends now, granted theyre not too good. ITs awesome on big characters.

Also, not advanced at all, but i love me some MB edgeguarding

Anyone tried out the lemon lock combos. The only practical one is the leafshield one but its undermined by JCT metalblade > grab, which is much easier to land especially with leafshield activated, but lemon lock does lead into damaging combos that are normally hard to connect like this .
Perhaps someone with insane amounts of tech skill can try to pull off the semi-infinite, but it seems humanly impossible to do consistent.

U-air > U-air does so much damage, too bad it's highly character dependent
It doesn't even at least combo for floaties. like rosalina

Here's some Jab > Footstool shenanigans.
They can't avoid the Footstool because of the edgeslip mechanics. Sets up gimps
Peach and Rosalina are hard to Footstool for whatever princess reasons. Fast fallers can't be Footstool, they be too fast. I could barely Footstool Bowser Jr.

Anybody hear about the trick to use Ftilt while holding an item? Crouch, then press forward on the C-stick. Works when set to smashes or tilts.
I was trying to get a better understanding of this before making a big post out of it. But this is huuuge for Mega Man because of the metal blade.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dx37fofVDns - Jtails of the Diddy boards has some banana techs that we can use for the metal blade. Instatossing and ftilting with an item. I advise people to look at some Diddy techs because that character has had years to develop item tricks. Same with ROB for his gyro. Add these to the invinciblade from the Link boards and we've got ourselves an interesting item-metal blade game.

Locke, who said your quote lol?
Which quote?

Side note: I think the item techs deserve their own thread. One which people can experiment and we can come up with a full list of options that you can do while holding/picking up a metal blade.
