Amazing, as always.

All I can say, is the only thing missing from your game is pivot grabbing the enemy as they land. Your everything else is perfect, but especially vs snake you got hit by a few bairs which were snakes only option and a pivot grab would have punished it quite effectively.

Pretty good Chopin. Have you ever played Eternal Sonata? If you like JRPG's you will love it.

I've been waiting to see this since you promised on the other thread, lol. Glad to see it showed up somewhere. Unfortunately, I noticed a few more problems here than I did last time. Namely, your edge-guarding, grabs, and ability to score a KO. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure you could destroy me in a ditto lol.

Main edge-guarding issue was that you never pressure him off the map because you're too busy charging AS. I'm not saying that you should be rushing him like crazy but play the edge game a little more and save your charging for neutral position or any other time when you're not giving up a chance to gimp or at least rack some damage.

As far as grabs, you simply don't have them implemented into your game-play. Grabbing makes your opponent feel helpless (psychological damage), slows down the pace (plan offense while pummeling), and makes him more cautious about approaching you. Lucario's throws in particular are invaluable. U and D for starting free Fair combos, F and B for kills.

3:50 was an Fthrow kill, 6:37 was an easy dash-grab opportunity, and 7:04 was a Bthrow kill (these are just the most obvious ones that I went back and picked out from the first match). Recognize these opportunities more. The space immediately in front of and behind you should never be a safe place for your opponent.

Lastly, the KO's. No Toon Link should ever live to 170% against Lucario, imo. You seem to rely heavily on FCAS for kills, and you tend to fire it immediately after you finish charging. Your opponent quickly picked up on that and began countering it (1:10-1:20), turning it into an unreliable killer. Biggest issue was spawning and letting him rack damage on you while he was at high percent. I find that the best way to prevent this is to get the KO and even it back out as soon as possible :p

Use your invincibility off the spawn to force a commitment and punish it. If that doesn't work, switch to hyper offense or hyper defense. Don't just keep playing as if your stocks are even and settle for another Fair combo. You also need to resist the habit of power-shielding bombs and then sprinting forward into them :/ Best move imo is to sh and grab them out of the air with an AD. This keeps them from bouncing, dodges the other bomb/arrow/boomerang that he always follows the first bomb with, gives you an item, and will teach him not to spam your shield with explosions.

This is easily the longest post I've ever written, but spelling out the analysis helps me as well as you lol. I hope it wasn't too preachy and verbose, I feel like I just finished a high school essay with required citations. Great use of backwards Fair->Nair combos, awesome wavebounces and turnaround shots, and of course, lolsy kill at 9:18. I'd be mad salty after that.

I too watched the video and have to agree completely that Rich is, at best, a mediocre Lucario player. I don't mean that harshly son. You have a lot of potential, but I witnessed a lot of missed dash-attack combos, side-Bs interpolations with grab reflexes, and a questionable FCAS. I do compliment you on your power shielding/roll away/spot dodge decision making, though. Keep up the good work soldier. HUT.

Here is a video of my first time using Lucario in a tournament. I've only been playing with him for about a month and I would love it if I could get some valuable advice for my gameplay. Disregard my crazy input malfunction that resulted in diddy losing a stock -__-'

Hey guys, I'm theDuL0R from LI and I main Lucario. And I got a funny wall clinging video from a friendly game I had with APEX|Vinnie this past Friday. It made him quit the game just so he could record my wall clinging shenanigans. He suggested that I post it on the Lucario boards. Enjoy!

Sorry for the delay. School is ... yeah.

@ regin

It is kinda hard to analyze a doubles math especially since I have never seen you play singles. From what I could tell you just need to work on the fundamentals( i.e DIing and reads). I felt like there were times in that match where you just weren't actively thinking about what you opponent was going to do next. The lucario and diddy team is cool, but I find it doesn't work when both people try to play offensive if you aren't going to seperate your opponet. In game one you seemed to focus on stingers when you should have focused on esam. Lucario does a lot better vs. pika than ROB. But then again it was ESAM. Maybe a double team approach on esam would have worked better. Not sure. The skill gap was pretty wide.

@ theDuL0R

I saw this and I thought genius. This is even better if you know the stage is about to switch. Imma steal this strategy. Thanks for posting.

Not a problem!! It's actually really easy to do. When back near the wall, simply press back on the joystick. And I could've stalled till the stage changed, it was actually about to change lol.

I don't really have much to say in terms of critiquing (not really one of my strengths) but I really enjoy watching your Lucario and can't wait to see how you do at Apex.

Hi the lucario analysis thread ! This is the first time i post on this thread, and on the lucario boards in general.

I am a Toon Link mainer from france, and i have a friend that mains lucario, and he would like to have a few advices on his lucario.

His name is LucarioMaster (dat name) and i have a few sets for you to analyse. (he also got a youtube channel).

If he does not post here its because he does not have a good english, and he asked me to do it.

His playstyle is inspired of trela's :3

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrcNRCFDJ38 (Winner semi)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zMuMWEfwSQ (Winner Final)
He got a second place in this tournament !

And another set of another tournament : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HfBwLRzUrwU&feature=plcp

In the set vs Ky-Dragon (Mk mainer), he used a lot of F-smashs, due to him being pressured.

He finally asks if you guys dont have any tutorial for the toon link and diddy kong matchups.

Thanks a lot, and see you !

Some rare footage of me playing. I hope you all see somethings you like. Unfortunately, it's not linked to youtube. But they might be a benefit for some viewers.

Doubles- Me and Panda

I'm pretty much in most of this stream as well as Panda and I's doubles matches.
One of our doubles sets starts at 3:17:15 and pretty much continues since we had to play grand finals right after.

Singles

This is singles bracket, more into the bracket specifically. My match begins at 1:14:00 or when they call me.

I'm posting this here because watching it blew my mind:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwk40OsCKXY

In particular:

1:26 (this one is not that special but demonstrates the type of movement that azen utilizes to great effect - retreating sh + air dodge + dash grab - the opponent expects and fsmash so they sit in shield).
1:50 AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! EVERY LUCARIO SHOULD DO THIS : sh retreating fair + ASC + air dodge + dash grab! notice how the dash animation starts while the sound of the ASC is still audible.
2:14 wiff
2:29 AMAZING - snake is chasing repeatedly with dash + shield. shbair + ff + dash grab! woot
3:34 This fsmash is the mixup to the retreating AD + dash grab. If the snake starts reading the AD + dash grab all you have to do is fsmash!
4:02 !!!!
4:15!!!!
4:35 this is the first time snake reads this approach
5:23 The next time Azen uses this approach he mixes it up - reads snake's side step and just rolls behind to punish it
5:37 It works again now - snake has stopped sidestepping.
6:02
6:10
6:26 mixup - does not cancel the AS
6:53 !!! amazing - does the same dash grab read but this time out of a backwards facing asc cancel in the air - snake was maybe expecting the fsmash still
7:01 !!!

Azen goes for the buffered dash grab out of a retreating landing 12 times. 10 of these result in a successful grab.
There are some matchups for which this is less useful than others but a lot of our hard matchups consist of characters that can powershield our fsmash+AS and punish us hard. This counters that type of approach.

I actually wanted to create a separate thread for this video and suggest that we start a weekly or monthy video observation where we discuss a top lucario and try to identify some specific concept in their play style that we can use. I think we should try to understand why a particular set up works and not just how to perform it. I'm not too experienced with starting threads but maybe someone else can take that idea and do something with it? I really feel that this is important for lucarios to know about.

With little DI movement airborne, spacing/retreating F-air + ASC + AD I find it a lot easier performing this with my GCC pressing Z for Air Dodging without having to press hard on it while using it again to dash grab with. Due to my problem usually pressing the shield trigger(s) and landing with shield, sometimes I roll towards them as a mis-input instead of doing a dash grab.

Nonetheless I've started doing this for when I need to get a grab, it's legit. The way Azen lands his grabs reminds me of Sonic's retreating SH+SD>shield grab causing some to sit in shield and get grabbed. Lucario's ASC making that sound with a AB% AS will be huge and dangerous enough to make most people put up shield from the sound and size. FF+ASC+AD would speed up the delayed air time and a dash grab would be even faster and unexpected. This beats FBAS *approves*
