I posted the article on the forum a while back and got fairly positive responses. I don't think he "bashed" competitive play at all. The way I read it, he made it clear his preference was random, crazy matches with items and a ton of luck. At the same time, he seemed to show some respect to those who do take the time to learn more intricate parts of the game and do those exaggerated "12 hit combos".
He also discussed the importance of different parts of Brawl, such as "advanced" basic techniques like teching and such things that Sakurai had in that update, as well as discussing the importance of knowing each character and the priority of their attacks.
Just to throw it out there, at least he recognizes and even seems to show some respect (even if it's not a lot and not always direct) to hardcore smash players, something that a lot of people outside of the hardcore smash community don't do, especially from Nintendo itself.
