Like no joke, just combining the roster from the first two games (minus guest characters like Ralph/Danica Patrick and stuff), you get a pretty solid roster of 30 for a racing game.

Was it purely because of obscurity? Was it due to the Xenoblade franchise's future being uncertain?

This reminds me of the uncertainty of Shulk back in the Smash 4 days if he even was a Nintendo character (I mean, he always was, but a lot of people thought he was Third Party).

He was grouped with third party characters on the 3DS roster
He wasn't really seen as a Nintendo character, but rather Monolith soft, who was only relatively recently acquired by Nintendo before Xenoblade.

I think you should split up some of those duos considering the side characters Racing Transformed added TBH. Maybe not the Bonanza Bros but if they thought Pudding and Reala were worthy of their own spots I don't see anything wrong with Akira being split from Jacky.

I mean that's fair for sure, I was just literally combining the first two rosters, and the first game had Jacky and Akira and Zobio and Zobiko ride together, so I kept them together, and I don't think I'd split the Bonanza Bros or the Chuchus lol

If you split them up though, that's a nice even 32 plus whatever new stuff.

I assume Iizuka is producing the game like TSR, so he probably doesn't care too much about the sega crossover aspect and just wants to make a sonic racer.
Maybe a playable NiGHTs since that was an IP he worked on in the past.

Behold, the only franchises in Smash that remotely beat out Kingdom Hearts in this regard:


Every other franchise is genuinely either far less of a household name, has relatively region-specific popularity, or just isn't in remotely the same league. The only other ones that maybe come close as franchises are Splatoon and Final Fantasy, but I left them off because Splatoon's relatively new in comparison while Final Fantasy is all over the place in terms of which specific games are popular where.

You're genuinely REALLY underselling Kingdom Hearts in this regard and it reeks of ignorance.

Bear in mind, it's also capable of bipedalism if it absolutely needs to be (i.e. for certain animations in Smash like firing guns).

Yeah, it's Bill in the body of Nidorino, but it implies the model and the creature itself is capable of this naturally; it just never really does.


There's also the Gengar vs. Nidorido fight Red watches in Origins where it starts with the two locked in a test of strength grapple where Nidorino is standing (bottom pic).

Eh, bipedalism is still the default. Even upright, you can tell it walks on all fours by default. He still reads as a cler-cut Creature to me

Yeah this is the big thing, 2022 means Sakurai definitely had info on SV PRE-RELEASE, which is how it normally goes.

If that project isn't Smash and Smash has started recently or somehow not started yet, then Gen 10 is probably well within reason because I imagine they'd release it for the 30th anniversary next year.

Like either way, Pokemon is pretty covered for a base roster newcomer.

They'll pull from the latest game for the base game. Precedent literally dictates this. If the most recent game is Gen 9 at the time of release, we'll get a Gen 9 Pokémon. Incineroar got in well after Sun and Moon's "hype cycle." And they're not going to "save one for DLC." That's literally not how it works.

Here's a rundown of what would happen in the scenario you proposed.

• TPCi demands a new Pokémon.
• Sakurai says he'll save a spot for DLC since SV is maybe a bit too old, arbitrarily.
• TPCi representative laughs and says they'll revoke permission to add Pokémon at all unless a new one gets into the base game, and that Sakurai needs to pick one from the pre-approved list or go scratch his ass.

We're getting a new Pokémon in the base game. If it's too early for Gen 10, it will be from Gen 9/an earlier gen in general.

Okay but how far in production does it need to be if it most likely comes out next year as an anniversary title since SV is like 4 years old next year?

Greninja got added to Smash before they had even NAMED it, so like I really don't think it needs to be much farther along.

I think it was more so that they had a much more interesting potential moveset and playstyle as a Tandem Fighter compared to just a Samurai. Also helps that their game actually got released outside of Japan.
