Delaying games can be good to improve their quality, but it can come at a price. The fact they must have resources allocated to the NX doesn't help.

That is a problem with innovation: it's either a huge success or a massive flop with little room for middle points. Of course, sometimes risks must be taken to avoid stagnation of the market.

And if the previous theories with this same concept are anything to go by, promotion/game release=/=character for Smash.

They won't be making a hybrid lol. at best you can expect some shared titles IF (a big if) both console and handheld use the same architecture.

But I guess that would make something like a main series Pokémon game being on a handheld but can be playable on console; my guess would be that they still have exclusive titles but now they can port games to one or the other easily.

On another note 540p does seem like a good fit for NX handheld's screen resolution.

Think of it like Windows 10's goal-- the same experience across all devices. That's something I'm looking forward to seeing. If it doesn't show up, well, I don't care much.

So rather than being two separate Smash Bros. games tailored for each platform's specifications and be different from each other in terms of features, the NX version could be the one and the same for both, with a minor downgrade on the handheld (plus ). The operating system, although designed for both, should have a different user interface to match the system specifications. You don't want a full-fledged home console menu for your handheld, do you?

From the looks of it, NX is indeed (again, assuming it's real) more like a platform rather than just a pair of consoles. I would also advocate for the handheld to be sold and marketed separately from the home console, but that remains to be seen, because they haven't even revealed the devices yet.
