I have a theory, A GAME THEORY! What if the Splatoon direct and the Smash Direct are two separate entities, I say this because usually Smash announcements don't usually happen in other game centric directs, usually they happen in generic ones (), ones focused on them () or even just their own trailer (), so they might not even be connected. Then again, just a theory, so don't take my word for it.

All the other info was vague hints from Stealth and whoever else is "IN THE KNOW", that all points towards what Roger just said.

The only thing we're still in the dark about is that second character Stealth said he knows about (and judging from one of Rogers' other tweets just now, the second character is likely Shovel Knight).

Another thing that helps my theory is that on the exact same day as Robin's announcement, Mega Metagross was announced for Pokemon ORAS, so it is possible for multiple Nintendo related announcements to happen on the same day at the same time.

Coil Zygarde. That's a genuine threatening mon, increasing all 3 things Zygarde needs, 2 of which it accels at. Regular Hoopa and Diancie aren't as impressive, correct?

Zygarde's still a pretty good mon, putting it on a 'worst Kalos mon' list just because a few other powerful legendaries are better is actually ****ing dumb, especially when Tamashii doesn't even hate the pokemon but just pulled names out of a hat and tried to make them look bad. It's like saying 'This delicious ice cream is in my top 5 worst food because it's not as good as my favourite ice cream'

Having a Smash character announcement in an upcoming game would direct attention away from a game Nintendo wants you to buy.
The Mii costumes in the Splatoon Direct were minor, and you had to buy Splatoon to get them early.

Now both Smash and Splatoon are out, and pretty much the entire Wii U playerbase has them both. Segwaying into Smash DLC at the end of a Splatoon DLC presentation would actually be pretty resourceful.

No, it was definitely Smash related. RogersBase announced exactly what they were all talking about (Splatoon Direct ending with a Smash Bros trailer.)

It's just that it was more of a Splatoon thing and just had a Smash announcement attached to it.

It makes sense but like past unrelated Directs on other games and even events, I really shouldn't expect a Smash announcement and I just don't see it happening.

It's not impossible and the it can easily happen but you gotta see that Nintendo never did that before so I shouldn't expect it now. And it's not like I don't want the Squid Kids but I don't see it happening.

I think the only exception of it happening like this was last year with the Japanese only Direct with the announcement of the New 3DS with Xenoblade Chronicles 3D plus Shulk's Smash trailer. But that was a General Nintendo Direct with the announcement of Rhythm Heaven: The Best +

If this leak does end up being fake (and it looks more and more like that's the case), I'm hoping it ends up being a learning experience.

Secrecy and anonymity is a necessity, but it is possible to take it too far. This leak is the perfect example. There's no evidence beyond word of mouth, and what's supposedly going to happen sounds like the kind of crap that pops up on 4chan before every single Nintendo Direct. If we had been told from the beginning that the leak was "Splatoon Direct ending with an Inkling trailer" from the start, I guarantee it would not have gotten this much steam.

Details aren't the type of thing that should be kept a secret. Names are.
