Hello SW Forums,

I just thought about an old tactic that's been around since Melee (or maybe sooner). It's not very advanced, but it's pretty useful. I haven't seen it on the boards or in any advanced tactics videos, so I thought I'd bring it up here.

When you're in the air, tap either left or right on the control stick, and press B soon after. Don't tap both at the same time - otherwise, you'll just do a side-B attack. If you do this correctly, your character will turn around in midair and perform a neutral-B.

Here's a couple of times I found it useful:
1. If I wanted to make space between me and my opponent, I ran in the opposite direction, immediately jumped away, performed the trick, and did a Thundershock/Fireball/whatever to score a hit.

2. As Captain Falcon, leaping at the opponent, doing the trick, and then performing the Falcon Punch (usually to fake people out). Of course, in Brawl you can still turn around as Falcon/Ganondorf without knowing the trick. But if you want to do it in Melee, this is how.

Hope this is somewhat helpful. Happy smashing!

you can also turn your Up-b moves around in a similar manner, Kirby's final cutter is a great example of this, and its fun to pull it out against people who do not know you can spin it. Metaknights is the same way, but the input needs to be faster than with kirby. Not sure if there is a technical name for turning your up-b vs your neutral-b but it seems related. (yes, this is known, but it is an informative reponse rather that the usual "this is known, you are such a noob for posting this stuff" we should help the neebs not scoff at them)

It's awesome that you can do a 360 falcon/warlock punch this way. Like it's going to happen though.

Sorry to say, but people could do this back in Melee, it's a commonly known technique. If you couldn't find any reference to it, you probably weren't looking hard enough.

Didn't I mention in my first post that it was already in Melee? Maybe you weren't looking hard enough. :)

(Anyway, enough nastiness for now. Yeah, I know I wasn't looking hard enough. :p Hence, I didn't make any claim about it being my own idea or my own discovery. Just though I'd bring it up.)

This is such common knowledge that I can't even justify making a thread to remind people of it.
