Look at what I came across on Twitter last night! I know we're mostly gunning for Andy around here, but could we at least give this a chance?

I see a lot of these "PKMN Trainer-esque" moveset designs for an Advance Wars rep whether that be shifting CO's or Andy switching units the way the Trainer changes PKMN and honestly, i've never been a big fan of the concept TBH. I feel like it needs to be one CO being focused on and said CO has to be the focus in the battle. They can't just be an afterthought to the generic units or share the spotlight with other CO's because otherwise, it just becomes unfocused and the player doesn't have much attachment to said CO.There was a problem fetching the tweet

Can anyone think of a more surprising omission from Smash than the (Advance) Wars series?

This is about more than a playable fighter. No stage? Over 800 tracks, and not a single piece of music? Sure, there are a couple of Spirits. But even the most obscure, random, and 3rd party games got Spirits. Characters that were not even on Nintendo systems got those I think. Advance Wars had a SINGLE assist trophy, and it was one of the few that were REMOVED. Removed from the most comprehensive collection of Smash history? Why?
But this is Advance Wars. A Nintendo made series that goes all the way back to the Famicom. Long running, and with spinoffs. TWELVE games! Twelve games across Famicom, Super Famicom, Game Boy, GBA, NDS, Gamcube, and Wii. I get that it might not be super popular in Japan, or had any recent entries. But there is some OBSCURE stuff with songs in this game. Electroplankton has a stage! There is music from Culdcept and Jam With the Band. A song from Soma Bringer? A Captain Rainbow song? I could keep going.
Advance Wars is filled with colorful characters and wonderful music. It was VERY well received on the GBA and DS. Most would call them must own games of those very successful Nintendo systems.
And the series is made by Intelligent System. It's often considered the sister series to Fire Emblem. Yes, Fire Emblem is a lot more popular. Especially these days. But Fire Emblem hasSEVEN(This post was before Byleth was announced) EIGHT fighters, three assist trophies, stages, music tracks... It's got it all. In all this time, was no one at Intelligent Systems trying to pitch some Advance Wars stuff? There are Codename STEAM songs in this game FFS.
I tried to reason that maybe it had to do with content. Like, maybe war was too out of place in Smash? But if Snake is shooting rockets and throwing grenades, I'm not sure why we can't have Andy doing the same.
It's one thing to feel left out of the party. And i know there are fans out there who feel snubbed. But this isn't a 3rd party series we are discussing. It's actually confusing. Does Sakurai secretly hate the series? I'm actually surprised they didn't have a fighter in the series sooner than now.
Some could argue that maybe Andy or someone else could come as DLC. But with the recent announcement of Joker and the wording that was used after, I'm not so sure. It sounds like DLC is going to be a popularity contest. And most likely, more 3rd party.(This post was before Byleth and ARMS were announced).
Can anyone think of an exclusion that makes even LESS sense?

I mean, everyone and their mother would figure they're planning new mobile games so it isn't really that newsworthy lol. The only thing interesting about that tidbit was as if they wanted to announce whatever new Mobile title at this conference but COVID-19 threw a wrench (haha wrench) in those plans. Maybe not but I don't see why they wouldn't want to announce something like that at their year-end Investor Meeting. This was same place 4 years ago when FEH & AC : PC was announced so go figure.Well now, this isn't exactly what we hoped for, but it is helpful to the rumors.

You know, I hadn't noticed this, but you're right, IntSys is being really prolific and making big moves with their non-FE franchises. That bodes well for AW's future. What this also shows is IntSys being committed to other franchises other than FE. Paper Mario is still a priority for them as seen yesterday, Panel de Pon is being localized in the West after 25-26 years, and there's still the rumors of whatever Wario Ware that happens on the Switch. So between all that and IntSys staff increase from earlier in the year, I honestly don't believe AW Mobile is that unrealistic even more so with the rumors of Golden Sun being remastered. Mobile, as I mentioned is the perfect way to reintroduce the franchise with the new generation as well as older fans who never played Advance Wars. Said Mobile title would also be the catalyst for a Switch game proper with renewed interest in the franchise.
That's a pretty interesting tidbit. Nintendo is indeed releasing new mobile games in the future but they made it sound like they don't want to be releasing that many new titles and would rather focus on supporting the ones they have running now. That does bode well for Advance Wars still, IMO seeing as that franchise is the only Nintendo series that seems to be in the rumor mill these days when it comes to mobile games. This is probably a coincidence.

Potential crossovers? Well, Fire Emblem is a given, but didn't Samus appear in one of the Famicom games? Maybe they could reference that. You know, although I was sorta against the idea of a mobile AW when I first heard of it, I'm definitely starting to see how it could work in a big way. To add on to your statement about reintroducing audiences, Japan could finally get a larger dedicated fandom for AW. Mobile gaming is huge there right now, entire franchises are getting their start with a mobile title. That means even if the AW mobile game does decently well in Japan then it's practically at the finish line in terms of getting a new console game. The name would be somewhat known by the general gaming public over there plus it would earn a few committed fan-artists at least.
I do gotta wonder though, what will it be like? I can see the setting taking place in an original world with its own storyline but (Assuming the gameplay itself isn't butchered to be completely p2w God help us if that happens) you would also be able to recruit COs from the different games via gacha with a handful of original COs here and there. It'd be cool seeing events/scenarios where the DoR and GBA cast interact with eachother. Speaking of characters from different universes interacting, what would you guys like to see in terms of crossover events if there are any?
It’d be cool to see them go the “reimagining” route to make the characters fit the aesthetics a bit better, though regular Marth but with a gun would be fine too.Potential crossovers? Well, Fire Emblem is a given, but didn't Samus appear in one of the Famicom games? Maybe they could reference that.
I wouldn't see why not, seeing as he, Ike, Robin and Lucina were once given an apt style change when they showed up in Codename STEAM.It’d be cool to see them go the “reimagining” route to make the characters fit the aesthetics a bit better, though regular Marth but with a gun would be fine too.
Dude you just took the words out of my mouth. FE is the most obvious and it really should happen given the link the two series have. They could go even further with the crossover by having AW characters in FE-costumes and FE ones wearing AW outfits. Imagine Andy as an FE Lord and like Hector wielding a big ass mech lmao.Potential crossovers? Well, Fire Emblem is a given, but didn't Samus appear in one of the Famicom games? Good timing actually. I wanted to share this article with you guys that I found to be pretty interesting. Mind you, it doesn't pertain directly to Advance Wars but I still found the comment to be interesting. It was an interview with a Nintendo producer regarding Shulk in Smash Bros and how that helped the Xenoblade franchise. See the link below.Hey, haven't been around this thread in a while, how're things looking for Andy and AW?
It's not only that but you also got to consider how many IP's could have benefited from the Smash exposure. Especially the ones that faded away over time. Of course, Advance Wars & Golden Sun are the most prominent examples of this but also smaller series like Custom Robo, Sin & Punishment, Chibi-Robo, etc.Yeah, the notion of Smash introducing people to a new franchise is pretty good for our case, and I'd argue that it should be used more by Nintendo. They have a very strong advertising tool with Smash, so it's weird not to see it used more often and to its full extent. But still, it's great to have the acknowledgement.
Wargoove sold more than any AW game? I wonder if this could be due to game rentals being less popular now than when AW was an active series, as you'd most likely need to buy it in order to experience its gameplay.Wargroove, a spirtual succesor to AW did something like 1M+ units across all it's releases so the precedent is there.
Yep. On STEAM alone, it has 200K Units sold and the Nintendo Switch version was the best selling game on the Switch E-Shop in February 2019. Couple that in with the Xbox One, PS4, and physical copy editions and this game has done well over a million at this point.Wargoove sold more than any AW game? Yeah, this has been common knowledge since last year (even 2018 for some places). I kinda wanted to avoid talking about it in this thread out of respect for the McLeodGaming devs but I guess the cat is out of the bag lol.Weird question, but I saw something on Twitter about a leak for Super Smash Flash 2 leak involving Andy. Does anybody know anything about that?
What did Khan say this time? For a while now, I've had a theory that King Boo might be one of the DLC inclusions due to the conspicuous lack of LM3 content beyond Luigi's throws, and Imran Khan's statement only adds onto this. It could also give a chance for Rex & Pyra to come in earnest, although it's too early to tell.
As for tomorrow's presentation, I believe that the ARMS character will come with some sort of surprise. I can't say for sure what it'll be, so we'll have to wait.
What did Khan say this time?
Imran mentioned that he heard or believes that this Pass will be kinda the reverse FP1 with like 2 third parties and the rest first party. Which bodes fairly well for our boy's chances. What did Khan say this time?
Well King Boo in the roster would be a huge upset to both Geno & PM fans. I kinda thought the idea of KB in the Pass was silly before but in light of recent events, I don't think it's impossible anymore. LM3 not having it's Spirit Board is sus so like, I can def see why someone would think that especially after 3H in FP1.For a while now, I've had a theory that King Boo might be one of the DLC inclusions due to the conspicuous lack of LM3 content beyond Luigi's throws, and Imran Khan's statement only adds onto this. I wouldn't worry too much TBH. I just see this as a move in response to the Switch performing as well as it did and the likes of AC doing much better on console than it did mobile. Maybe going forward, Mobile will be less of an incentive for Nintendo but it's still a major revenue stream for the company. I don't see them leaving it anytime soon.Well, we may be in a tough spot. Apparently, Nintendo recently confirmed that they won't be going as in-depth with the mobile market as previously thought. This might hurt that rumored AW Mobile game...
So instead of AW Mobile let’s get AW Switch. Switch Wars!Well, we may be in a tough spot. Apparently, Nintendo recently confirmed that they won't be going as in-depth with the mobile market as previously thought. This might hurt that rumored AW Mobile game...
I wish dude haha. Of course, Switch Wars is something I want to see happen but the franchise needs to be proven before that can happen I think. Hence, why we all need this rumored game to succeed for AW's console return aspirations to happen lol.So instead of AW Mobile let’s get AW Switch. Switch Wars!
