Wii U homebrew getting decently far. Nothing like the nightmare of old school Wii homebrew.

Overwatch is so, so much fun. I need to play for more than like the hour I did today, and try more characters. Everyone is also really bad right now, which is pretty fun.

Pharah is great because I can play her just like TF2 roamer Soldier, which was my class when I played low-level comp 6s.

I'm honestly loving this game. I ended up staying up all night playing with friends. Gonna try and branch out with some other chars later on but I've mainly been using Genji, Reaper, and Reinhardt.

Smooth Criminal Smooth Criminal this might be a weird question but were you part of some really old brawl crew with rdk and takasomething called play2win?
Yup I was, lol. Why do you ask?

Overwatch is fun except when every match boils down to "approach objective, Roadhog instakills you, the rest of your team spends the next five minutes chasing a Tracer that doesn't die a single time the whole match"

I've played this game for one day and I don't even own it yet and I'm already so salty that I'm melting through my seat

I thought snooth criminal was familiar that's wicked!
After that whole thing there was me and Vex Karasomething and a few others (oh and I think dynasomethingdash was a common one too, and takashi i think was a name of someone there too) that branched off and made another thing with Bamesy and NES n00b (RiP) captaining the teams. it was like online allisbrawl crew battle stuff but our own thing.

When NES n00b passed away we made a thing called 1 Final Day that was like our last run at brawl stuff and most of us just quit playing after that. Brawl master race 1FD represent!

Wicked to see you're still around that's like ultranostalgia.
That whole thing with you and those others is how I STARTED PLAYING SMASH.
neverforget

Bleck Bleck that doesn't sound good at all but i'm kind of used to people knowing nothing ever sounds good coming from you so I'm not sure if my opinion of what you're saying means anything LOL

Sooooooo just like pub games in every other objective-based shooter? Haha. I can relate to this soooooo much, though. Shooters induce this brand of salt in me (probably at around the same levels, too).

Binary Clone Binary Clone overwatch looks really bad to me
if it's not you wanna link me something that might show me why people think it's good?
Uh, it just comes down to what you like. I enjoy having lots of movement in my shooters, with objectives and class-based combat instead of DM fests. Which means Overwatch has been pretty rewarding for me so far.

I mean I can't really provide anything if you're already convinced it's bad, unless you tell me why you think it's bad. I really enjoyed/enjoy TF2, and Overwatch is along similar lines. The combat feels very dynamic and varied with great mobility, and team composition is an important factor in a successful game.

Hopefully I'll have time to play with friends soon. The only reason I had time to play it at all is because I've been sick all week. :/

Man, sounds like you're playing with a bunch of scrubs. I mean everyone's a scrub, so I guess that's a given.

Roadhog isn't that bad, just keep moving. He ****s up Pharah because she's so easy to hook when she's in the air and she's squishy, but 90% of the time you should be moving so that he struggles you actually connect, and if he can, you're a tank. Roadhog is definitely annoying, but he's basically just a git gud character where you gotta learn to deal with his like one trick. Positioning and movement are key.

Why do people chase Tracer though? She's so squishy, just kill her as she approaches, watch your flanks. Maybe I'm biased since I have the vertical mobility as Pharah to catch Tracers off-guard and chase them a bit without committing too hard so I can finish them off. But chasing Tracers is generally a dumb thing to do, just like chasing Spies in TF2 often is.

Also the mobility in overwatch sucks ass for 2/3rds of the characters

I told my counselor I think I have ADHD, and now I officially have ADHD without ever seeing anyone. Which is a little confusing. I mean she is a certified psychologist with a doctorate's, but we just talked about it, nothing more.

This has explicit advantages for me and I feel kind of guilty. But then again this has explicit advantages and I probably shouldn't have resisted this earlier so I could be actually medicated right now.

I can probably justify this in my mind with Gattaca

Why don't we just make everybody's jumpsquat 3, after all what's the point in bowser having 8 when he could have 6, and what's the point in having 6 when you could have 5, and what's the point in having 5 when...

That's the point. It is a slippery slope. How many buffs to jump squat are enough, and once you are satisfied, will all jump squats the same? If so, is that homogenization the best thing for the game?

artificially large jumpsquats that have no balance reason to be so large as well as large landing lag are part of the reason why heavy characters are inherently bad in the smash ideology

sakurai was a genius for using such mechanics to make big characters "feel" heavy but when you get down to it there's really no reason for such things to exist and unequally affect large characters (who already have other inherent weaknesses) from a balance standpoint

Besides the aesthetic reasons, there actually is a balance justification for having characters with different jumpsquats (not necessarily 6+ frames but not all identical): it makes it more difficult to switch between characters, because it throws off wavedash timing. In a game where most characters are at least decent but some counterpicks are very polar, keeping that difference makes it relatively more practical to stick with one character: either choose a character without hard counters, or tough it out in the hard matchups, or risk screwing up with those awkward missed edgehog SDs.

throwing off wavedash timing isn't a real reason to change jumpsquat lol, that's the worst justification I've ever seen for it.

okay then, there's no reason for any character to have more than 3 with this mindset then. it just makes 4 jumpsquat characters worse from a balance standpoint
there's absolutely no cut-off point here. Why have different jumpsquats at all? Should they have given bowser 5 too? Why do puff pit and peach all have 5 then when huge characters like DDD and bowser would have 5 then? Should we make puff and peach 4? Why do fast characters like falcon have the same as puff and peach now? Should probably give falcon 3. But now we've buffed some fast characters, guess we need to find a way to buff slow characters... jumpsquat would be a good place to start. Why is DDD's jumpsquat 5 when it could be faster to buff him?

If you want to look for a real reason to adjust jumpsquat, it should be the value of the character going airborne. If the character is better in the air or has access to more in the air, jumpsquat should be longer. You could say "well he's bad in other areas, so lets buff jumpsquat to compensate" but why do that when you could just buff those other things? A lot of characters already saw buffed jumpsquat due to other weak areas, see: bowser, ganon; but that's not justification to continue to make other buffs like that when you could fix different core problems instead of a very minor frame change. jumpsquat buffs feel big but really it just feels much faster. there's many more ways to benefit the character in ways that feel equally satisfying
