I don't know if this was pointed out before, but I'd like to make my post heard...

Is ANYONE seeing Kirby Super Star all over again?

Here's a list of comparisons...

-In SSE, Partners warp back to the main
Kirby's helper warps back if it wanders too far

-In SSE, Doors in general, and can be opened by pressing "UP" in the air.
Not much of a comparison, but it adds to the Kirby-ness with Kirby style doors
EDIT: There are doors in many games, but not the same properties as Kirby Super Star

-In Boss Battles Mode, there's a resting room, and a sign that shoes your next boss with 3 heart containers
The Arena mode has a resting room and shows a sign of the next boss, the tree in the back has maximum tomatoes, which fully recover dmg/hp

-In SSE/ Boss battles, the last boss is Tabuu, winged, has a giant cannon, teleports randomly, and has the Butterfly Red Rings of Death attack, and is always the last boss
Marx is the final boss who is also winged, can shoot a cannon in the same way, teleports randomly, and can open a vortex in the backround, which is near-death if you get hit. Oh and in Arena mode, he's also always the final boss

-General fighting, the 'footstool jump' is performed by jumping on a character
Kirby or his partner can jump on each other in the same fashion, but sort of difficult to do

-In SSE, there are several instances where you're stuck in a screen with enemies to fight. Defeating them lets you move on either by scrolling the screen, or revealing a door.
When Kirby meets a miniboss or a band of enemies, he's stopped to fight. You get to move on when you beat them all by either scrolling the screen or by a door

-In SSE, there are colored blocks that if you hit, they blow up a whole new section by obliterating walls or blocks.
Kirby can clear walls or paths by hitting bomb icon'd blocks

-In SSE, there are elevators you control by pressing up or down
There are elevators that act the same way in Kirby Super Star

-In SSE, you can ride mine carts and destroy all enemies in its path, as well as get to your next destination
Kirby can ride mine carts that behave the same way

-In SSE, there are floating cannon with arrows on it that shoot you to other cannons, others rotate and stall, some shoot upon contact.
Although Donkey Kong Country has this, Kirby Super Star has the same concept of cannons.

-Some characters can wall climb/stall.
Kirby with the ninja ability can 'hang' on a wall

-In SSE/ Target Test, there are boards that if you stand on it, it will fling your character forward.
Yeah, Kirby Super Star has these. Same concept, look, effect

Here are some more tidbits...
-The Plasma helper in Kirby Super Star has the SSB shield...
-The "Dynablade" mode world map is slightly similar to the SSE world map...
-The menu is the same concept as Kirby Air Ride menu
-The Challenges are directly from Kirby Air Ride Challenges
-It might be just me, but Galleom boss is so much like Heavy Lobster...
-Kirby's running attack is the spinning break dance thing, this is the Yo Yo ability in Kirby Super Star
-Things not listed above for SSE; Ladders, gusts of wind, water, jump springs, collapsable floors

Yea... did anyone feel like they were playing a Kirby game and not a Super Smash Bros game? Yes, I know these are the same people that make the Kirby games, but it feels so... reused...? Feel free to post anything else in Smash that you found "Kirby'd".

EDIT: Okay, HAL didn't make the game, but it's still Sakurai 'reusing' things from Kirby games I guess

Sakurai's forum avatar is Kirby's head.

Kirby is Sakurai's baby. We all know this. :D Thanks for listing EVERYTHING though, I didn't know there were that many similarities.

I think that was the intent, the series was originally made by HAL, and so was Kirby.

Also, although HAL didn't make Brawl, Sakurai had a lot to do with it, and he WAS with HAL.

Maybe it should be called "Super Star Emissary"?

I don't have any problem with it... I went into SSE expecting a Kirby-like experience; when I want to play some actual SSB I'll do multiplayer. That's just me, though.

I found a few problems with a few of the things in your list and here they are

Yoshi 64 doors opened by pressing up, its just a common method of opening doors
Boss Battle is based on All-Star mode which may be based on Arena mode
I thought that the stuck on the screen was a basic thing in all side scrolling fighting games but feel free to prove me wrong
How else would u control an elevator in a game like this?
As you said the cannons are from Donkey Kong not kirby.

The one thing that made me feel the warm fuzziness of nostalgia was when in SSE you had to defeat enemies on that screen before you can move ahead, and when you defeated them all, you got that "FLASH!" effect with the "SKRRSH!" sound effect with it, JUST like in SuperStar.

I knew it would be very similar to SuperStar (being that Sakurai invented Kirby and made Super Star), but I just love and appreciate the little self-homages he made to his Kirby Super Star game (though, some would rather say, "re-use" as oppose to saying, "self-homages").

One song I'd have LOOOOOOVED to hear in SSE was the "Great Cave Offensive" music from Super Star. Especially in the "Grate Maze" area.

BTW, that great maze was so "Castlevania-esque" to me, with the map...solely with the map when you pressed pause/start.

Super Star is my favorite game of all time, And you could tell in N64 it was based off it. But I really do enjoy the similarities.

What? You mean a game made by the producer of Kirby Super Star made a game with similar concepts in it and your surprised? Oh wow, way to fail.

Really some of these are a bit of a stretch, so anytime a game has a similar properties we're playing Kirby Super Star, get real.

Well that's no surprise. Ever notice how many Nintendo cameos have appeared in Kirby games. Samus and the Metroids were in Kirby's Dreamland 3. Mario, Luigi, Toad, and Birdo were in Kirby Super Star.

Playing through SSE was like a massive nostagia trip for me because of this. There were elements from every part of super star incorporated which was pretty awesome.

Way ahead of you. Even melee had humongous similarities to Kirby Super Star. And now, in Brawl, we even have the added addition of a Boss Battle mode (in addition to All Star, which served that purpose in Melee).

Edit: The actual gameplay in SSE seems most related to Great Cave Offensive with Milky Way influences. And Mirror Kirby also has the smash shield.

A lot of the points were straw-grapsers (Pushing up to move elevators? OMG COPY!) but a point nonetheless.

Superstar was awesome. Subspace......not so much.

I dont get it if Brawl wasn't developed by HAL, then why is the logo in the corner of the screen when I turn on Brawl?

Sakurai created Kirby.

Also, Kirby Superstar has more in similarities with the entire Smash Bros series. Smash Bros can be thought of as what would happen if you added a multiplayer VS game to Kirby Superstar.

That game mechanic predates even Kirby himself. Same for up/down control of elevators and up to enter doors.

And a few more things I found, sliding boards on the floor. The ones you stand on and it flings you forward. Yeah... that's from Kirby Super Star as well......

I'm not 'surprised' that it's Kirby related, but rather "Kirby Super Star' related... Yeah I get the Sakurai influence, but it's heavily on KSS.

Don't get me wrong, Smash is still the best game ever made...

I'm not talking about DOORS THEMSELVES. I'm talking about Kirby style doors and how they appear, reappear, and how you access them, similar to Kirby Super Star. Of course there are doors in other games, but these doors have the same properties as Kirby Super Star doors.

BB = AL = AR, therefore, BB = AR. Boss Battles is related to Arena.

Stuck on the screen thing IS a Kirby Super Star thing. This does NOT mean its not a thing for other games, but rather it relates to Kirby Super Star MORE.

I was specifically pointing out the elevators in the Great Maze. The ruins type elevator. I dunno but, it has that Kirby Super Star feel in it. It's not a great one, but it DOES relate to Kirby Super Star.

Yes they are in Donkey Kong, but Kirby Super Star has the same exact cannons that behave the same way. I felt that I should have added that because of this. (Only cannons that don't appear in Kirby Super Star are ones that are fixed in one direction and move up and down/ left and right)

I already did an analysis on this a few weeks ago. It's not suprising that game developers do throwbacks to their older and more favorite games.

In case you forgot, KDL3 also had cameos of Professor Hector, R.O.B., Hikari, Donbe and a chinese girl with a pet monkey, who look like they came from an 8-bit game.
